Quote from: nnodley on Nov 19, 2025, 06:57 PMi've been kinda tempted to grab a steam deck. I just don't know whether I would really play it often or not. Maybe I'll just wait to see what comes of the ps6 portable.
for me personally i've never regretted anything more than buying a steam deck.

not going to say other people are wrong for liking it.   it's just that for me:
1. i have over a thousand games on playstation.   i had only 1 on steam when i purchased the steam deck.   so like,.. i'm not fully invested in the platform.

2. A LOT of games aren't supported on steam deck.   Even more claim they are but run like dogshit.   steam has their verification stamp but i've learned quickly it's not trustworthy.

3. it's not even close to a console yet.   i've had games that simply crashed at start-up and it took me hours to troubleshoot.   i've had games that start well enough but the default control scheme barely maps to the game.   this is especially true for games that are truely intended for PC with the expectation you have a mouse and a keyboard.   when text prompts are required it can get really hairy.   reading text can be incredibly difficult for me too because it's sized for a 17" monitor not a 7" handheld.   i don't want to tinker.  i want things to just work out of the box.   steam deck is not that.

i think i'd have a very, very different opinion of I was a PC guy first and steam deck was a companion device.   I wouldn't have to worry about the "verified for steam deck" so much because I'd be assured all my games at least ran on PC.   It's easier to not be mad that "only half" of the games are supported on steamdeck if PC is your main platform.   if i buy a game and steamdeck can't play it than i simply can't play the game which sucks a lot.

...also steam sales are highly overrated.  games on PC are not cheaper than on console.   not for what i play at least.

Way too much for me, but i feared it'd be more.

not really sure who would want this.

to be honest i don't really get the idea of hooking a pc up to a living room tv at all.   i have no desire to browse the internet on a tv or use excel or whatever.   consoles basically exist has the better form factor for living rooms in the same way tablets exists as the better form factor to a phone while on the couch.

This shame is dead on arrival lol

No way someone's gonna pay that much.

If anything, this is just a indication that next gen consoles will be closer to this than what they've been this whole gen.

I still have faith in sony/Nintendo to be more reasonable.   they substidize their hardware.  they make larger quantities.  they have experience.

it will be expensive but a ps6 will cost less than a base steam machine imo.

1. i'm glad they mentioned out game prices on pc really aren't better than on ps.   i have a steam deck now and for quite a while i've been price matching and it is clear to me that sales are driven by publishers.   the sales are surprisingly consistent between steam, nintendo, and sony.

2. i hate how they talk about "online" costing $130.   if all you want in "online" there is a cheaper tier and the tier they compared to comes with tons of games that for me and most others really justify the cost.

but costing soo much more while not even performing as good as the ps5 is pretty terrible.

And you can make a better pc for the same price.

let me guess,  that build doesn't include things like a case or power supply?   ..and of course doesn't have features like being able to wake up from the controller?

so a typical PC build that is full of BS..
