Any hype at all for PS6 and next gen?

I guess we are a full 5 years into the current gen, but it still feels so underbaked. I am not feeling the hype.

I never feel hype for a new system till actual official news comes out

:o

I was so hyped leading up to every gen's reveal as a kid.

I know there have to be some great games out there, but this gen has really given me the feeling that I must be missing some great games. But I've never felt anything stand out.

I feel like this is another big reason why long game dev times are becoming more detrimental.

We still haven't gotten our first Naughty Dog game this gen.

PS1-PS3: 4 original titles every generation
PS4: 3
PS5: maybe 1.

Yeah I agree. This gen is underbaked. Honestly this is no rush or need for a new gen yet.

It really sucks on every front. Even just hardware wise it has slowed to a crawl. Early ps3 you were playing bad games but at least they looked new.

Ps5 games are just ps4 games but cleaner. I was blown away by one moment in Horizon Forbidden West and Death Stranding 2 looked pretty, but that's literally it for me. Everything else has felt like a ps4 pro pro.

For freaking sure.

I get covid screwed things up but now we're 5 years into the gen. It should be firing on all cylinders.

Almost all of my gaming joy comes from indies now. Some great great games are still coming out regularly, but so few are AAA nowadays.

Yeah the graphics haven't jumped much. With PS6 it won't be much better, I think it will at least allow proper RT without much limitations which would help the lighting. But I doubt much devs will use that.

To me the best thing about PS5 has been the load times. Though most games don't have instant loading yet. So it's quite annoying

The issue to me is that Sony iced up with their first party. TLoU online cancelled. Sony bend game, cancelled. SSM'S new game isn't even announced yet. So Wolverine announced, and seemingly forgotten. And there is so much more.

i guess i'll take the same but also completely opposite opinion of you guys.

most gens i'm anticipating next gen hardware because current gen hardware feels outdated and bad.   i wouldn't say gen to gen to gen i always 100% anticipated exactly how things were going to improve but it always felt like things had a lot of room to improve.   especially with the ps1 gen which i basically skipped because 3D gaming was in such a rough state.

for me ps5 has been amazing and it's all about the SSD.   maybe you guys have already learned to take it for granted but last gen load time where horrible.

so when i say i'm not really anticipating the next gen what i'm really saying is for the first time ever i have nothing to complain about with respect to current gen hardware.  its basically perfect.   i have literally no idea how the gaming could be improved (via hardware) in a way that will impress me.
- games have gotten to the point where many can be too detailed to the point it's interferes with gameplay
- resolution and performance are well above benchmarks that demand improvements
- load times are low

So what is there that hardware can do next?

The obvious answer is AI i guess but as an end user of software I don't feel like AI is mostly something i'll even notice.   frame generation.   upscaling.  maybe making development faster via better tools.  you won't notice any of those as an end user imo.

ray tracing.  fine whatever.   i'm not oppose to it but i don't really need it.

i'm kind of interested in the idea of a ps6 portable.   i've kind of hated my steam deck and not really using portable mode for switch but from time to time i do travel.   to be honest though,... my interest in a ps6 portable isn't that i think sony can do better but that i have a huge backlog of game on playstation and none on steam/switch.

i've been enjoying the motion cotrols on switch a bit.   joycons have terrible ergonomics but it has been fun to play mario kart via tilt and play samba de amigo again.   joycons are quite versitile and i'd love to see more of that.

going back to AI,.. i've been nursing an idea of a video game which is entirely summed up as "2001 a space odyssey".   a game that uses speach as a primary input.  not voice commands like "throw grenade" and the non-sense MS showed with kinect but the kind of stuff llm AI really makes feel possible where you have conversation with the game.   "I'm sorry Dave.  I'm afraid I can't do that."  so like i'll be excited about ps6 if it lead to new experiences.  not sure if that requires a new console though or if that just needs a developer to want to develop a game like that.

anyways, in summary you guys seem very down on next gen specifically because software output of key studios.   i share your feeling there but:
1. in my mind that is a separate topic from hardware
2. i only half agree because while it is disappointing ND hasn't released any game i still find that overall i'm overwhelmed by the amount of game i have to play which is in part because of one of the best parts of ps5,.. backwards compatibility.

i'm down on next gen because things are perfect as-is with almost no room for improvement.  xD

I don't really need graphics to look better.

Spoiler for Uncharted 2:

Like there's a ton of room for improvement with Uncharted 2's visuals. But I think it still looks incredibly pleasant, and relatively clean.

And PS5 load times are ridiculously sweet across the board.

I guess I feel like I'm having a harder time than ever trying to get into games.

I disagree.

I want my purchase to justify itself. Most of the games I played, if not all, I could have played on a PS4. That doesn't detract from the experience I had on my PS5. Because it was overall better graphics, load times, and frame rates.

But the amount of truly amazing games, specially from a Sony, is still limited.

I want something to truly makes me go wow... Before I move on to the next gen. Actually I want that more than just once.
