looks like a huge step down from a team that is expected to deliver greatness.

Ok I'm having a blast with this game!  It's actually really fun just going around and destroying the environment. Could it get monotonous after a while, possibly. We shall see.

monotonous was exactly my first impression.  but the 2nd trailer seemed to indicate there is quite a a bit more to do than just "dig"
