this looks insane. Nanite foliage to allow fully built leaves and pine needles to run in realtime.

nnodley

if they fully achieve what they are showing here this is gonna be a massive step up for open worlds.  If they don't, well.... gamers are gonna eat them up.

nnodley

Gat dang they better hit this fidelity. I'm so excited

Hollywood movies don't even do that normally.

Yeah if they get this running really well and optimized then it should game change UE5.  They also just said nanite and lumen will run 2x as fast as when 5.0 released.  Coming in 5.7

nnodley

The foliage uses voxel cubes as you get farther away to help with performance and they are less than a pixel so you will never see them when you are far away.

nnodley

metahuman creator is now inside 5.6 locally which is gonna be sweeeeet

nnodley

they have a guy using a camera to do live performance in real time which looks pretty great.

nnodley

They are really lowering royalties and rev share.  Which is great.

nnodley

keep 100% of rev on first million then epic gets 12% after that. And there's other stuff if you ship simultaneously on epic games store too

That's great.

I finished watching. Nanite trees looks good but interesting that it's based off such a limited amount of branch types. That could be a problem depending on the tree species.

i watched a bit.   not that impressed.   pretty much what i expected the ps5 to look like.   untill now i've been pretty disappointed in what has been accomplished on ps5.   i blame series S, cross gen, switch for holding things back.

The big thing is they claiming you're getting that fidelity at 60fps with full raytracing and fully build trees with individual leaves along with full proper global illumination. There is nothing on base ps5 that looks anywhere near that good with all those bells and whistles

first off,.. my grammer was horrible in the post you quoted so i fixed that up a bit.

secondly,.. maybe it's just because i'm not a developer but build trees with individual leaves means nothing to me.   60 fps is common.  ray tracing isn't uncommon these days.   the fidelity doesn't seem that big of a step up from my expectations.

so this is a late gen ps4 game:

to me this feels 1 standard gens worth of improvement:

given we're already on the back half of ps5 i feel like this level of fidelity should be common by now.
