secondly,.. maybe it's just because i'm not a developer but build trees with individual leaves means nothing to me.  60 fps is common.  ray tracing isn't uncommon these days.  the fidelity doesn't seem that big of a step up from my expectations.

so this is a late gen ps4 game:

to me this feels 1 standard gens worth of improvement:

given we're already on the back half of ps5 i feel like this level of fidelity should be common by now.

In terms of single player linear games, yes there are games that look amazing. We are hopefully talking a level of fidelity most open world games have never gotten too. There are some like kingdom come 2 that look really good, but the tech unreal
is showcasing here is a step above and is very much not an easy thing to accomplish given technical restraints even on the high end RTX cards. Especially combining all the tech without compromising 60fps.

That's their goal at least. Will remain to be seen as it was still just a tech demo that was heavily curated to show off new unreal features.

What I mean by trees with individual leaves, is simply every leaf is modeled on the tree. No more cards of flat planes of branches where foliage gets weird at odd angles.  Brand new tech so it will be a bit till it's really fleshed out.

What I saw in the demo is obviously not gonna be things most people will likely ever care about, tbh. But as an almost daily user of unreal, it's insane to see what we will be able to build with it.

It is sad we are just now reaching this level of fidelity this late in ps5 generation.

Also Metahumans are now usable outside of Unreal in any engine or software.  If you make un $1 million in rev unreal is free, but over that you need a seat.

Might try them out, but i heard that at least in the past they struggled with making many types of faces.

Yeah they aren't exactly the best at that but this new update seems pretty good to allow a lot more variation. I haven't dug into it much but from what I did, it had tons more options than their web based version
