About an hour in. Really meh. Very interesting it got this much praise if this is the real game and not a false facade.

Also I feel like I immediately noticed what the big final ending of the game will be.

Genuinely horrified at these reviews. This game kinda sucks.

There are good elements to it. I don't fault some people for liking it a lot. But it's crazy that it is one of the highest rated puzzle games of all time. The core mechanic is just so uninteresting. I'm at 4 hours so again, maybe it has a big secret waiting to be revealed and this is just setting the stage, but the randomness is not fun.

It's like Inscryption but instead of a fun card game at the core, it's a really boring table top game without much agency at the core.

Like I believe I know literally everything needed to finish this main challenge. Yet I can't solve it. Instead I just have to do the same thing over and over and over again and hope RNG lets me solve it. It's just so boring.

Spoiler for Hidden:
I have the door to the fancy computer area opened, I have the apple area opened, and I have the west gate open. +2 coin daily allowance from that puzzle in the trader.

Like does the game really just expect me to do this over and over until I can get a handle into the garden and then reach the antechamber all on the same day? It feels like there isn't much game left, at least in this act.
mostly ignored your post here legend.

i wanted to play it too and it's "free" via ps+ so i was going to download it soon. i'm read enough to know "it sucks" but i'll come back with my opinion soonish.

but i will say this: generally i'd rather play a mid puzzle game than better game in any other genre.

Looking forward to your impressions.

It had one pretty good puzzle I liked.

The game is so much better now. I'm liking it a fair amount.

Just so strange that they hid a good puzzle game inside a bad puzzle game. Maybe I was just unlucky and most people find the good stuff earlier.

Spoiler for Hidden:
The core rng still sucks but the false facade is revealing itself. Right now I am almost finished decoding a message that is spread out in every room.

I also have three of the four flames lit and the fountain drained. I tried duplicating the microchip but the game just kinda glitched.

I still haven't made it to the antechamber. The rng just makes that so stupid, since I already know what to do.

I love that the story is getting darker. Game doesn't feel like it's a no context wholesome puzzle game anymore.

Byt still just so weird they made a bad puzzle game to act as the foundation for a good puzzle game.
Legend

Oh god, I finally did the thing. I really hope this is perminent and not something that will reset. Don't know if I should keep going or turn around and head to my coat check.

Legend

Well I got the credits.

5/10, but like there are so many things that I haven't interacted with. This feels like the casual ending.

It just sucks so much. There is a good game in here, maybe a great game even, but it's locked behind RNG crud. Just so weird.

Fully finished. I solved more puzzles myself, then checked some hints to see if I wanted more.

Genuine 3/10 on my scale. Horrible game. Good presentation, some good puzzles, but mostly just a load of rng trash.

I really cannot comprehend the metacritic score. It has very mixed user reviews. 6.9 on Metacritic right now, 78% on steam. A huge amount of people hate it yet critic reviews say it is the best puzzle game in history.

Like it's just so so bad. For example, this is a "puzzle" in the game:
Spoiler for Hidden:
There is a wall that sure looks like it can be broken. So I grind the rng to get a sludge hammer. No effect.

The "solution" is that you have to also grind for a battery and for on other device, then combine them to make a mecha sludge hammer.

Your inventory resets every single in game day. You are very unlikely to find all three items in the same day and have the method to combine them. So even if you know the puzzle "solution," this will take multiple hours.
finished my ng+ play of R&C rift apart last night. downloaded and looking forward to playing the highest rated puzzle game this year. ;D

Not just highest rated of the year. Highest rated of all time, at least that I know of.

The "solution" is that you have to also grind for a battery and for on other device, then combine them to make a mecha sludge hammer.

I spoiled myself, and I get a kick out of imagining that you somehow found a much worse solution than the dev intended.

Would be funny. Would at least make things make sense.

But everything in the game is like this. You know what you need to do, but you can't directly do it. You have to wait till RNG blesses you.

Another example:
Spoiler for Hidden:
A pump room and a boiler room have a random chance of being spawned every time you open a door. I have already used the pump room for a couple things, but I believe the next step requires it to be supercharged by the boiler.

So literally all you can do is open doors over and over and over and over until both happen to spawn next to each other in the correct orientation.

I did not bother doing that.
I think the game could have been improved massively with one small change. Just a simple fix to make all the RNG not the core antagonist.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Make it so at any point the player can buy whatever they have already encountered in previous runs. Just sell these things at a markup vs their existing price when found randomly.

You only want item x? Well get 30 coins in the run and you can buy item x.

You only want room y? Well get 6 gems in the run and you can buy room y to go where you want it.

RNG would then become the process to get enough gems and coins and maybe players get lucky and things spawn naturally. But with this change, RNG stops being binary. The player can compensate for bad RNG and still potentially get what is wanted.
So i started playing it tonight.

Deeply not engaging from the start. I literally just "finished" day 2 so you know i'm not far. But it was boring and i already knew you hated it so i read your posts.

Agreed. The rng of drafting room is terrible. I'm catching onto the big idea but i i've never had a puzzle game that requires grinding nor do i want to play one.

Like it soo increadibly sucks that i'm ending my 2nd day because i drafted a nursury, a lavatory, and a bedroom that a door to the left instead of the right which i needed.

Puzzle games are about reasoning out a solution not lucking out.

You are a better man than i to have finished the game. I'm deleting it already.

Oh, and you didn't really post about it but the "steps" thing is dumb. I had a breaker room that when i drafted i didn't really know what to do with. Later i drafted a mailroom and i found a note pertaining to the breaker.

Why the hell is it costing me steps to return to that room and engage in the puzzle?!? You really expect me to just "write thing down in a notebook" like that stupid note said and try again in the next day?!?!?
