Still haven't had time to watch it myself.

From Era:
QuotePixel counts:
MK World 1440P 60fps
DK 1080P 60fps
BOTW and TOTK 1440 at 60fps
ER 1080P 30fps
Cyberpunk 540P to 1080P 30fps (but it looks clean unlike PS4/XONE version)
Tony Hawk 4k60fps
Final Fantasy 1080P 30fps (looks clean but it has poor framepacing, which was fixed in the ps5 port but was present in the footage)
Duskbloods 1080P 30fps

They said they couldn't notice anything pointing to DLSS being used in any title, and of first parties only Metroid had some form of AA.

Sure...

i'll believe it when i see it.  from nintendo's show it's hard to say there is even a 2x improvement.

BOTW was apparently 900p @ 30 on Switch docked?

Running at 1440p@60 is a pretty good improvement.

Practically pushing 5x as many pixels - without DLSS.

10x with DLSS probably isn't a completely crazy claim, but pixels are just 1 particular measure of performance.

Digital Foundry was talking about some kind of oddity with how Elden Ring on Switch was captured. That it was probably unlocked framerate above 30, captured in 60 fps, then pushed down to 30 fps, and then put into a 60 fps container for Nintendo.

I'm not sure myself. I'm rewatching some of the trailers, and I feel like some of them look better than I thought they did during the show. But then there are some kind of bad spots that look sub-PS4.

4k60 for Metroid is pretty decent I think. :P

Maybe too many resources are going towards resolution/framerate. :P

I find it odd that DLSS wouldn't be active. Nvidia is really pushing it and Switch is the only system with an nvidia gpu. Either the gpu is not capable of DLSS, at least not anytime soon, or it is active imo and digital foundry just missed it. 4k60 fps is great for metroid but why would they push for that vs upgrading it in other ways and having DLSS upscale? It's 1080p 60 fps on switch 1.

Botw was 720p on wii u and 900p on switch. So I guess I would agree with you that switch 2 does indeed seem like a stronger hardware upgrade than it seemed during the direct.

Is it possible that there's some Nintendo weirdness going on?

There was an Era thread about Switch 2 devkits not having 4k support.

Is it possible that DLSS is in the consumer hardware but not on earlier devkits?

Devs would have had to make these decisions a while ago. Like Nintendo either told them "DLSS is still having some bugs worked out, but it will be part of the launch SDK" or they said "DO NOT EXPECT DLSS IN YOUR LAUNCH GAMES!!!"

Compare it to PSSR on PS5 Pro. I don't have a pro, I don't actually know how many games use it, but Sony advertised it as a core PS5 Pro feature both to the public and to devs.

Maybe they had funkiness with hardware, early dev kits always have quirks, but I don't understand why Nvidia wouldn't have put some weight behind it.

Not sure if you remember that Mike dude from the "chertz", he used to manage their game DB or something.  Anyways, I remember chatting with him about Nintendo.  This was around the time that Nintendo America refused to publish The Last Story, Xenoblade and that other game (Something tower?).  Anyways we were talking about Nintendo and I was like "I like Nintendo games, but holy hell do I hate Nintendo the company" that was like 10 years ago.  It was as true then as it is now.

I'm that way too with sony. PS4 Sony was so smart. PS5 Sony is best to just be happy with what you get.

I wonder if I'll ever get a switch 2. I have practically not touched my switch. Tears of the kingdom, luigi's mansion 3, animal crossing, and super smash bros. Only games I believe I have played on it.

- Compared to PS4, while docked.
- also questions the 10x, but points out that the games are showing a 4-5x jump in resolution/framerate. (maybe I should join Digital Foundry ;) )
- suggests that DLSS might not be used because it's too expensive.

i'm listening and kind of watching this while working.

very interesting how much they compare it to a ps4.  i think it's a good point that some of the titles that looked better than we remember than a ps4 is down to implementation not technical.  aka FF intergrade lighting improvements.

i don't really get all of the people trying to claim this is better than xbox series S.   i think being comparable to a ps4 while being in a handheld format is a great achievement and we don't need to exaggerate things.  i'm feel very vindicated waiting for switch 2.  better resolutions.  better framerates.  better load times.  switch has sooooooo many jaggies and switch 2 is fairly clean.  i've noticed some jaggies in a few places but the presentation is soo much better.

No way is it reaching series S level graphics. I doubt anything on the switch will ever look good as red dead redemption 2, TLou2 or the great looking PS4 games. But the general PS4 game might perform better on switch 2. This is just based on what I've seen so far from the switch 2.

Did they give out official specs yet?

Yeah the best of PS4, wow that's a high bar.

I really really really would be amazed if ever got TLOU2 level games, even at lower resolution. But I don't know if any PS5 games are TLOU2 level  ::)

Do we know how many teraflops the switch 2 is?

What was the switch 1 teraflops again?

Nintendo doesn't give those numbers out.  we won't have that until after release.

Supposedly:
Switch: 0.39TF docked, 0.15TF undocked

Switch 2: 3.1TF docked, 1.7 TF undocked
