QuoteIt's likely this comparison that Fils-Aimé had in mind during the show. "I have to admit it," he said. "Astro Bot almost outdid Nintendo at its own game."

man i wish sony had at least a handful of teams dedicated to being astro/nintendo like.   it would save me soooo much money if my kids could be completely happy with playstation instead of demanding i buy a switch 2.

i don't need clones.   clones are a bad idea.  i just need teams dedicated to the ideas of:

child friendly aesthetics
soo very many games on ps/pc/xbox have dark themes.   death and murder.  apocalypse.  horror elements like monsters or zombies.  my youngest had nightmares last night just because we were reading percy jackson and the concept of medusa came up.

also literally being dark is unappealing to kids.  i'm talking the color scheme.   tbh i'm pretty dang tired of it too.   i've been playing the room 2 on my steam deck and the game is practically unplayable sometimes.  how am i suppose to find that hidden compartment with a thing in it looking at this??  i often times just click the screen in random locations hoping to randomly find the thing i'm supposed to be looking for.

pure gameplay experiences
sony in particular have a lot of cinematic games.   now don't get me wrong i do like a good story sometimes but my kids generally don't give an F.  they clearly have a strong preference for games that are just about doing stuff because don't that stuff is fun.

accessibility settings
sony is actually pretty good here.   i was very pleasantly surprised at how accessible spiderman was for my son.  i used to think of accessibility being about disability but i was wrong.   these settings have done a great job at making a game engaging for me but by turning on a few assists very playable for my son that isn't very good with controller yet.   especially with respect to camera controls.   also games really should always support a (very) easy difficulty setting where it is basically impossible to die or lose.   a 6 year old needs that in order to have fun.

local multiplayer
kids want to play with their parents or with groups of their friends.   it's not fun to have a friend over and watch them play by themselves.   i personally love online multiplayer in how it helps me stay connected to my college friends that don't live in the same state as me.   but it's surprisingly hard to find good games i can play with my son while sitting on the same couch.   this is a pretty critical need for gaming with children.
