Dang even this reddit post about the Astrobot music is higher on r/PS5.

Astro Bot might be huge.
Everyone seems really happy about it. I just hope it translates into sales.

Quote from: Legend on May 31, 2024, 12:51 AMThe last full astrobot game was a vr exclusive so I just assumed this would be the same.

PSVR2 must really be dead.Sony should have never killed Knack.
Knacks gameplay was not kid friendly.

I'll get it day 1 so long as the cost content ratio is favorable.

Seems like a vast majority of gamers are sick of games like Concord.  It just looks like all the other live service online games out now. Nothing super original and over the top gameplay. Its been played out a lot at this point. Maybe it will surprise and be a massive hit. idk

But I'm happy live service seems to be a dying breed of games.  Now all we need is devs/pubs to stop thinking every game needs to be a 30 hour open world game.

Horizon

Yeah Astrobot looks awesome. Day one.

There will always be trends that devs chase in gaming. Some devs find success, lots flop, and some are late to the party.

People are a bit sick of hero shooters how, and the genre is so crowded anyways.

What I really want from Sony is a Killzone x battlefield type of FPS. Large scale, PS360 gen styled fps with some destruction, maybe some mechs, jet packs, tanks, and jets/battleships.

I liked the look of Concord but this is the one of the issues with game dev. When starting dev in 2018 the landscape for games 6 years later can be very different. Suicide Squad suffered same fate (despite it being a good game I might add..). The success of games (perhaps entertainment in general) is down to timing as much as quality. Helldivers 2 has blown up due to it feeling fresh and different. People get bored with same thing over time.

eh, era just likes to complain.   the games themselves are still doing well.

concord is a great example of what i was worried about when sony first announced their live service ambitions: make a game in a genre that already exists thinking they even have a chance of dethroning an existing popular game.   no matter how good the game is it is still likely to fail.   all of the moaning about "not another hero shooter" is exactly the problem especially when the other titles are free to play.

that said, after the word of mouth success of helldivers i'm not counting concord out until after the beta.   a huge narrative these days has been moaning about how grindy and monetized overwatch is.   maybe it will be that sony steps in with the exact right product at the exact right time here.   i know i would personally prefer a $40 game where the monetization takes a back seat to a f2p game that is an absolute grind fest like mulitiversus became.   that's one of the reasons helldivers is such an amazing game because they game isn't spoiled but over-monetization.  if concord costs $40 but is then just suuper fun to play i could see it maybe succeeding.

...it needs to be really fun though.   i'm still flabbergasted at all the "looks boring" i'm seeing about concord and all the "looks fun" i'm seeing about marvel rivals.   rivals looks like dogshit if you ask me.   you can really see the bungie influence on concord and that is a massive complement.   for all the terrible hamster-wheel business model crud in destiny the gun-play is some of the best i've ever played.   concord looks really really good to me.

Helldivers 2 trailers were really popular and got great numbers on youtube. I did not expect it to be as huge as it is, but I expected it to do significantly better than the first.

Concord is the complete opposite. It has fewer likes than every other video from the state of play, except the two vr games and the path of exile port. All the youtube comments are making fun of it too.

To put things in perspective, the concord gameplay trailer has ~3,200 likes. Astrobot has ~29,000 likes.

I am loving seeing Astro Bot get so much love.

helldivers had a built in fanbase from the original.   outside those of us that "got it" it was not popular at all.   it was hugely made fun of.   on era the poll asking expectations for concurrent users started at <1,000 and top out at 50k for which only like 1% of people thought it could reach that.    expectations were solidly, "why isn't this f2p?!?! it needs to be on ps+ or it will be the biggest flop of the year".    that's an important context for why it's success was soo surprising.

not saying lightning strikes twice here but again,.. i'm not counting concord out until after the beta impressions get inked.

me too.   would love to see this top 10 million and become an important franchise for sony.   ...important enough to get sony to greenlight a few other similar titles.

Everything can change with concord if the gameplay and game are fun. I at least hope for the studios Sake that the game is well received and considered of high quality that even if it flops, they give them another chance.

Pretty much a Killzone 4 yeah, id love a Killzone 4. But they don't need to be tied down to killzones art style or universe.

But I'd still wish for it to have a realistic art style rather than all the cartoony art styles we are getting now in multiplayer games.

Era is full of idots, what would you expect?  ::)

Look at average gamers and Helldiver 2's reception was incredibly positive. Just compare the old comments on its last sop trailer Helldivers 2 - "A United Stand" Galactic War Trailer | PS5 & PC Games to the ones from Concord - Gameplay Trailer | PS5 Games. Plus looking back at the log, that Helldivers 2 trailer had 5 times as many likes per view in the first day.

If Concord plays great then yeah it can still do great, but this is a pretty bad reception.
