Seems like a big misstep to require it.

Should have at the very least, offered it as an option before requiring it. Maybe even with incentives.

Amazes me that sony is getting any flack for this. 

1. Its listed as a requirement on the steam page 

2. This is pretty standard stuff now.  I need an MS account for minecraft.  I need an epic account for fortnight.  I need a battle.net accout for diablo.  I need a whatever account for geishan impact.  I need a WB account for multiversus. 

I don't love this but as the same time why is this only now an issue?    


Hell, i'll take this even further.  I cannot order pizza without creating an account.  I cannot order stuff from online retailers without creating accounts.    Hell,.. i can't drive on my local freeways or take public transit without creating a accounts anymore.

That sure is a screw up. Everyone knew PSN would be required eventually so why was it for sale in those countries in the first place?

So what do yall think the long term effect of this will be?

Doubt it really hurts active players, but bored people love their "activism." I believe it has the most negative reviews in steam history. Sure doesn't help that some lower level community managers and the like have been trash so the mob is full speed ahead.

probably nothing.  nothing happened to Minecraft when MS did this. 

...and if something does happen AH deserves will lose their cash cow.  dumbest shame I've ever seen watching them fan the flames.

A lot of this is so dumb.

Plenty of other companies require accounts for games.

A bunch of redditors think they can sue Sony for this.

I can't think of any gaming controversy that was this silly. It impacts a very small percentage of gamers and that impact is pretty minor, yet it's one of the largest protests in gaming history.

It's not like it's a slippery slope with dangerous implications or built up frustration, it's just a pretty standard thing that happened in a non standard way.
