well that's kind of disappointing.  would have thought with all that MS money this would be a full game.

Crazy. I thought all this time was to massively expand from the first, but I guess it was just for polish and next gen graphics? I like shorter games so I don't mind.

Wait I didn't realize that was Troy Baker but I knew it wasn't Harrison ford. Pretty good impression by Troy.

Game didn't look that hot though

ARA looks pretty cool on the other hand

Avowed looks good, probably around an 80-85 good but nothing outstanding. Also underwhelming graphics. Where is all that Microsoft money going?? To hellblade?

Watching the 3 trailers they've put out for it.

Trailer 1: I'm really excited. Kind of get Skyrim vibes, but darker.

Trailer 2: Kind of looks like a worse Skyrim.

Trailer 3: Looks kind of weirdly different from trailer 1. It doesn't really interest me anymore.

I'm sure it will be be great, but this wasn't the most exciting trailer for me.

Also I'm not sure what it is, if it's the "generic Unreal Engine" look, but there's a certain style that a few Microsoft games have. It gives a different feeling compared to SIE's games.

It's common for people to lose interest as a game manifests into a specific implementation, but it's like they're zooming in on what the bad parts. Like imagine a skyrim trailer that was just combat against random mobs.

They all look a generation old or something. Hellblade looks great and is Unreal so it's not that, but there sure is something off with them.

I'm watching the show now. I just saw avowed. Looks fun, something I'd want to play. But my grip is with the writing and voice acting. The people sound like are from new York or something. Give them an accent, write in a fantasy tone. Doesn't have to be heavy, but put some effort into it

This is my biggest gripe with a lot of things.  People just can't seem to write a natural sounding conversation or banter for dialogue. Or keeping similar ways humans talk in the present in a game that's medieval or something.  I get you write with what you know, but there's got to be some sort of imagination with it.

counter point - people can't understand a Shakespeare play pretty much because the language is too "foreign" to them.  take things too far and only the most hardcare LARPers will be entertained.

Counter counter point - yes take it that far. People love belter speak in the Expanse.

Use chat GPT. I mean really, they need to put some effort into this. I understand this isn't s naughty dog level production, but a big selling point is the story and characters. The Witcher 3 did this so we'll and it really made a difference

Biggest issue I saw with that event is nothing screams system seller to me even Indianna Jones has some reservations about it.

i agree with that.  everything was mid.  nothing shown is going to "rescue" xbox's downslide.   doubt that can even maintain 0% YoY with this lineup.   they'll probably be down another ~20% YoY which means series XS is trending pretty noticeably below xbox one.   a year ago i thought XS was a lock for at least parity with Xbox One (58 million) but at this point i dunno if it can even break 50 million.   it was down ~20% GenOverGen wrt to Xbox One this year.   With it downtrending already it could easily be down ~50% GenOverGen in this next year.   that's on track for what,... 45 million?   maybe not even!?!

Microsoft is yet again going to have to make next gen the one that destroys the competition

Indeed. Based on estimations of the US market these are the current numbers based on most recent Circana numbers:

2023
PS5 : 18.664.000
X/S : 13.476.000

2016
PS4 : 17.529.000
XB1 : 15.851.000

The gap is already widening and I don't believe Xbox is even past 30 million. The second strongest market in the UK sales aren't even past 3 million for xbox. So combined the US with UK you're looking at about 16 million consoles. The xbox is dead in Japan and nonexistent in Europe. I genuinely believe the series console sales are closer to 20 million than 30 million right now.
