Sony and MS want to expand past consoles.

Consoles have been pretty stagnant. They want to expand to mobile, PC which are growing sectors.

While building game libraries to attract consumers to Game Pass and PS Plus Extra/Premium, Microsoft and SIE often make competing offers to third-party developers to place their content on these subscription services. For instance, Microsoft and SIE made competing offers to have indie titles Valheim and Immortality on their services but Microsoft won both bids. While SIE does not typically require subscription exclusivity for games included on PS Plus, Microsoft often requires that titles included on Game Pass, particularly titles offered on Game Pass the same day they are released - not be made available on other subscription services.
