That's a lot.

Never would have expected them to raise prices before microsoft.

it is,.. but this year you may have noticed a big drop off in games sales much like xbox has.   i hate to say it but these services (extra and premium and gamepass) are too cheap for what they give you.   i kind of mentioned it before but i was going to do a write up on my own personal experience with ps extra but part of it is my spending is down about $500 this year.

not going to defend ps essential though.  $80 just for online mp is ridiculous.

just did my math.   a 25% discount on black friday brings me to the same price as if i stack my subs today.    maybe i should just stack my subs now...

Basic is all I buy anyway. I just want the free monthly games and access to the previous monthly games.

They're literally raising prices on the day that Starfield comes out....

This to me feels baffling considering the timing. Unless Sony has some big thing that makes it look like a better deal. The one that I don't like, but would not be surprised if it happened, is if it was a deal with Ubisoft to put Activision games on PlayStation Plus.

That is a huge price increase for yearly.

Forgot about that:

QuoteXbox Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass for Console pricing will increase starting July 6th. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will move from $14.99 per month to $16.99 (€14.99 / £12.99). The base Xbox Game Pass for Console pricing will also move from $9.99 a month up to $10.99 (€10.99 / £8.99). Microsoft is not changing PC Game Pass pricing, though.

Quote from: Legend on Aug 30, 2023, 07:46 PMDid that affect anything besides 1 month prices? I couldn't find anything.

MS doesn't sell 12 month options for gamepass.

a lot of people shrugged off the MS price increase
1. because they are xbots
2. because they said they'll just use the $1 conversion loophole.  that has since been nerfed as well.

Can you buy anything else?
I couldn't find anything other than 1 month subscription.

I think technically overall, this is actually pretty in line with Gamepass prices. With the exception of the Essentials tier (which would be comparable to Xbox Live Gold), where it is a lot pricier there.

But still price hikes bite; especially when they're like $40? for the premium tier. Especially for a year. A $2 price hike per month, probably feels a lot more palatable than a $24 price hike per year, even though it's the same.

Be curious to see how much of an impact this makes.

Maybe Microsoft is trying to phase them out but yeah they have 3 month and 12 month cards. That's the only way I've ever bought it.

Glad to have prices go up though. You're definitely right kitler that these things are unsustainable for the industry.

Terrific timing guys. Right with starfield and a terrible ps plus month. 80 usd is a lot

if the era thread is to be believed every ps+ subscriber will cancel and upgrade their PC instead.

it sucks, especially the essential teir.   i really, really think sony should drop the price on essential even if it means dropping the 3 "free" games a year.  $80 a year is a lot for some people.   a more budget option to just get people into mp games is good for the community overall and the "stickiness" of the playstation platform.

ps+ extra was too cheap for what it was.   i'm fine with the price hike here.

ps + premium in theory needs to be a good amount more expensive than extra to justify it's existence.   it needs more features though.  the list of premium games is anemic and definitely not justifying the higher price.   it needs more cool features like the demos feature.   i've said this before but being able to play your entire library via the cloud is, imo, the feature that should be premium's "selling point".
