I mean it's down from last year pretty heavily in the past few weeks.

Well last year they had FFXV and Yakuza 6 in December. I honestly wouldn't worry about the PS4 in Japan, it's doing well enough for publishers to support it and even when the Switch takes over publishers will still have little to no reason, to abandon the PS4, since contrary to what Resetera's Media Create community would like you to believe the system still has very healthy software sales for japanese games, both in Japan and outside. In fact, due to devs not being able to rely on the low dev costs of 3DS games, I actually foresee more and more projects, that used to be 3DS only to make their way over to PS4 next to the Switch.

Inazuma Eleven is a first example of that, I doubt Dragon Quest will go back to exclusivity either and I wouldn't be surprised if the next Yokai Watch goes PS4/Switch too for instance.

Overall though it's up YOY though. Q4
this year was always going to be down YOY. Q1 next year will be big though.

Next week it needs to hit about 80k for Christmas week to be in with a shot of being up YOY. Although with famitsu it will be easily up so at least 1 tracker giving it the win.

PS4 isn't selling terribly to be honest.  The Switch was going to always slaughter it, but that was going to happen.  Considering it's only slightly down is actually very impressive.

Seriously, why the hell do Nintendo fans keep grasping on to XC2, hoping for it to become this big thing? The game is mediocre as hell.

I mean I enjoy some of it. I don't know why people are expecting it be like Nintendo's Final Fantasy. I'm just happy it's showing signs of a small growth. Monolith Softs next game isn't Xenoblade but a Medievil Fantasy ARPG so we will see. I really hope they tone down the anime shame though.

Switch is a monster

Everyone (pretty much everywhere) is mostly only picking up Odyssey, MK8D, Zelda, Splatoon 2 and/or Kingdom Battle with it though. The other games aren't selling well at all for how much HW is moving. Its gonna need some more big games soon to keep this up, although it will probably keep selling well in Japan regardless.
Its not like this is unexpected though. Its not done well in Japan for most of its life.

It'll be interesting to see how titles such as DOOM, Skyrim, 2k18, and FIFA do.
My predictions:
FIFA: flop
Skyrim: success
DOOM: alright
NBA2k18: success

Yeah, I see a good game hidden in XC2 somewhere, but it's locked behind a ton of major annoyances. I'm definitely interested if that studio can make something more appealing not attached to the Xenoblade IP, they absolutely need to tone down the anime crud and system bloat for that though.

I mean I was disappointed that amount of Switches sold but the softwares still didn't better than I predicted. Xenoverse 2 May get close to the PS4 Version.
