It seems like retcons are often viewed to be negatives by themselves.

But I don't think it's that horrible of a concept.

I dislike retcons a lot.

I really like entertainment to have substance and retcons just mean that nothing matters. If the story was retconned before, why wouldn't they just retcon it again?

Thats kind of how I feel about dream/drug sequences sometimes.  Sometimes they are well done, but sometimes they are used to basically retcon things.

"All that stuff you thought happened, none of it happened".

In one show that I watched, they basically retconned that the bad guy was actually a good guy who did a bad thing to avoid something worse.

I didn't mind that, but a lot of people do.

i'm not 100% sure i fully grasp "retcon" but i googled it and...

... i really liked it when buffy the vampire slayer introduced dawn with absolutely no explanation and then retconned her into the season after about the 1/3 mark of the season.  it was on the early side of the internet explosion but that first episode was some epic times to live through as a forum dweller.

... i really hate it that republicans are trying to retcon nazism with their  "blame on both sides" and other whataboutisms.
