Release dates are a joke. Almost every game gets at least one delay.

So we should do what rockets do. "No Earlier Than" dates. Hapax for example is now no earlier than 2022. Much nicer!

I prefer No Later Than.

Hapax is now no later than 2099!  

Then bam, no later than 2040.

Games should just announce the release date 2 or 3 months before release, and just keep fans updated at what stage of development its in.

That's a good idea too, but not all projects want to be that open.

I agree in spirit but also feel like advertising and retail and merch needs to know a release date earlier than 2-3 months out.  games go gold like 2 months out sometimes.

I feel like if you can't say confidently your game will ship in 6 months you can't ship your game in 6 months.  to me that's a sweet spot of when a game should be announced.
