It was a pain avoiding curved monitors. At large sizes they might be nice but I don't want one sitting 2 feet from my face!

I've got a slight curved monitor. Its like a 27 inch i think.  Its my monitor thats sits to the side of my main drawing monitor and one behind that.  So its not too bad on the side.

I'm looking at this one here.

Seems like a good monitor though.

The X90J is $100 cheaper than what I paid for it.  :'(

At least I'm getting good use out of it.

Outside of graphics cards and nintendo games, everything electronics drops in price so fast.

Does your ps5 work at 4k 120 fps on your tv?

Theoretically yes, but I don't have any content at 4k120 to try it out.

The HDMI 2.1 spec is so screwed up.

They're now calling HDMI 2.0, HDMI 2.1, arguing that all of the new features of the 2.1 spec are completely optional.

Quote
"Products can no longer get certified for 2.0 only for 2.1, and also 2.1 features are optional to implement, so popular features like 4k120, ALLM, VRR are not required," Brad Bramy, VP of marketing and operations for the HDMI LA, confirmed to Ars. "Manufacturers could only implement eARC, for example, and claim to be a 2.1-enabled device."
Turns out that "HDMI 2.1" ports don't need to actually support HDMI 2.1 features | Ars Technica

They're basically pulling a USB 3.0 is actually USB 3.1 gen 1, which is actually a USB 3.2 gen 1.
Which is obnoxious.

That really sucks!

How will that work with cables?

the-pi-guy

My parents have a TCL which has a weird flickering issue.  I'm not sure what it is exactly.

It really irritates me.

I think the cables are more generic, and are moreso graded by bandwidth.

Look, my TV is already outdated!

Anything cool expected, or just minor improvements?

No idea.
I've heard some rumors of QD-OLED, and I'm also hoping that Sony is able to figure out the (actual) HDMI 2.1 stuff.

My new "tv" supports 4k 120 fps on xbox but only 4k 60 fps on ps5. I don't know how the rollout of 2.1 has been this bad.

(I bought my monitor knowing this, so not a problem for me)

What TV do you have?

A lot of the issues seem to be on MediaTek who makes the chips.
LG and Samsung are the only ones with their own internal chipsets. That's why they're the only ones with 4x HDMI 2.1 ports. And why LG was able to update their TV to support 4K120 with full Dolby Vision.

Whereas Sony's X900H last year could only do half of 4K120, and it's apparently why they're having trouble with VRR, among other issues.

The X90J I have, at least supports full 4K120, but I don't think Dolby Vision will happen with that...

It's disappointing, but I'm not too upset about it, the TVs that do are a lot more expensive.

Samsung odyssey pc monitor, the one I posted before.

Seems to be that ps5 can only do a specific form of 4k 120 output.
