Is bioshock 2 worth playing?

I played bioshock and I can see why it was such a huge deal. That game coming out in 2007 must have been something else at the time.

But I remember BS2 wasn't well recieved or liked. But is it still worth it?

kitler53

it was a let down but not terrible.

very similar gameplay.  it was more like bioshock 1.2 in a lot of ways. then to top if off the story was terrible.

so it's not a "bad" game but it isn't worth playing either.

Guess I'll just go through it quick so I can get to infinite.

It was pretty well received:

Bioshock 1- 96
Bioshock 2 - 88
Bioshock Infinite - 94

I think general impressions is that it's a lot like the first game, with a slightly worse story. If you're looking for more Bioshock, it's a good game to play.

Bioshock infinite is a bit controversial, but generally very much liked.

The issue with infinite is that i know one of the twisted that happen in the end. Bjut I've decided to finally play it, mostly because it came with plus and its "free"

critic reception was higher than fan reception as I remember it.

i didn't hate playing the game but I also didn't enjoy it.

the story was more than just a little worse. it was terrible.  terrible plot that conflicted with the original.  terrible writing.  poorly delivered.  the gameplay "saved" the game by being as good as the original but also detracted by being the same as the original.

the only good moment was the last chapter with you-know-what but that lasted like 15 minutes.

PS1 and PS2 era: PlayStation studios focused heavily on variety. They published tons of games that people wouldn't even recognize as being from Sony. They published quite a few sports games even. Studios like London Studio, Japan Studio in particular made tons of tiny titles.

PS3 era: PS studios starts focusing more on hits. Uncharted, The Last of Us, God of War are all critically loved and huge sellers.

PS4 era: Sony starts doubling down on these huge hits. Horizon, GoW, Uncharted are the biggest games they've ever made by far.

PS5 era: Sony will have to start diversifying again.

kitler53

i will personally like a more diversified sony.

not every game needs to be a 100 hour epic.   games like mario kart go on to sell tens of millions on a budget 1/10 of a GoW or TLoU.  sony should find a way to also be sucessful there.

Valkyrie Entertainment made Guns Up! published by Sony.

So maybe best not to count them just as a support studio.

Insane.

Their previous biggest acquisition streak was 3 studios between 2006 and 2007.

nnodley

its so wild to see bungie among those others.  And obviously i prefer pretty much all those games to almost all of MS's. I like them, but PS games are just on another level for me.

the-pi-guy

A lot of big talent coming from and to the following studios:
Sony Liverpool -> Firesprite
Ubisoft -> Haven
Bungie -> Firewalk
Treyarch -> Deviation Games

They were believed to be around 200 not long ago.

Yup, there's massive expansion going on across most if not all PS Studios right now.
