More Endgame presale news: it went on sale in China and completely exploded.

In only a few hours is has become the 6th highest grossing midnight previews ever, overtaking every superhero film except Infinity War. Madness.

And that's without China's biggest cinema chain, Wanda, which is just starting to sell its tickets now.

The question is. Can this beat avatar?

The question is. Can this beat avatar?
The answer is: no! Well, its like a 1% chance, this film will see insane frontloading and will most likely make more than Infinity War but Avatar is still so far away, it would need to grow 37% from Infinity War which is just a massive jump to try and achieve.

Personally I'm thinking it'll land around $2.3-2.4b, comfortable #2 all time but still a way off Avatar. If exchange rate was better it might be possible, but exchange rate is too poor right now. For example, IW made $201m opening weekend in China but if it launched today that would only be $189 due to poor exchange rate.

Anyway, speaking of China here's the top 5 hollywood movie midnight previews of all time in chinese Yuan:

The Fate of the Furious - 62.71m
Avengers Infinity War - 59.49m
Furious 7 - 52.46m
Warcraft -  50.17m
Avengers Endgame - 45.79m (less than 10 hours of presales)

Eh indeed.
I will always love how much Rian Johnson screwed up JJ Abrams' mystery boxes. This trailer shows Kylo Ren getting his helmet back and teases a new ominous villain to replace Snoke. The movie will try to act like episode 8 didn't happen.

Tomb Raider Movie Sequel in Development, Alicia Vikander is Back as Lara | ResetEra

Quote
More than a year after Alicia Vikander debuted as Lara Croft in 2018's Tomb Raider, MGM and Warner Bros. are looking to jumpstart a sequel.

MGM tapped Amy Jump, who adapted High-Rise for actor Tom Hiddleston and co-wrote Free Fire with Ben Wheatley, to start development on Tomb Raider 2, EW has learned.

Plot details are still under wraps at this point, but given that the first film, written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons, was rooted so heavily in the prequel video game trilogy, fans can probably come up with a few guesses.  Click to expand...  https://ew.com/movies/2019/04/12/tomb-raider-2-alicia-vikander-amy-jump/

Image of China presales in thousands of yuan. The flatter bit was when most of China was asleep.

Also on box office theory an insider who has access to raw numbers from a major theatre chain in the US said presales have reached $29.3m already for Endgame. The all time record pre sales for this chain (which has about a third of domestic market) is TFA with $36m. That's gonna be destroyed.

Box office experts are starting to talk of a billion dollar global debut being a realistic possibility. Would be almost double any other film except IW.

With 10 days still to go, Endgame has just become the biggest midnights film ever in China. When all is said and done it's probably going to have roughly doubled the previous record.

There has been a massive Avengers Endgame leak online. 4 minutes of footage which spoils the climax and ending, all over social media.

Gosh I hope I don't get spoiled. Some subreddit mods love putting spoilers on content that reaches the front page.

Yeah no Reddit for me for the next week. People on era who watched it said that nothing too major in terms of plot is spoiled, just what seems like the film's most epic moments.

But apparently it looks absolutely incredible.

Avengers Endgame has become the first film ever to hit 100m Yuan midnights in China. Previous all time record was 62m Yuan by Fast 8, Endgame still has 5 more days to keep selling, will easily double the previous record when all is said and done. Overall presales at 367m Yuan, which is #2 all time behind Infinity War at 410m. EG will become the best ever probably tomorrow or day after.

In Brazil, Endgame has already become the top preseller of all time with only 3 days of presales and is also the #2 movie of the year behind Captain Marvel already.

South Korea has presold sold 1.1mil tickets in just over 2 days, is about to overtake Infinity War for all time best presales with a week still to go. No other movie has presold over 1mil tickets before.

Also over 1.1mil presales in the UK for endgame, is running neck and neck with TFA for the all time record here. Note that TFA had a big boost due to preselling a lot after OW as well, like on Christmas day.

In Hong Kong, Endgame overtook Infinity War as #1 all time preseller in just a few hours.

Just a few highlights to show the ridiculousness going on with Endgame right now.

Edit: Guy on BOT forums with a source in major theatre chain said their Endgame presales are up to $34.2M (+$4.8M from 6 days ago). That's almost double Infinity War at 3 days out and only $2M short of the best ever presales for the chain (both TLJ and TFA at ~$36M). One week of presales still to go. Nuts! Pre sales usually more than double for most films from 7 days out, but obviously that's not gonna happen here. $50M+ and a new record by about 50% looks very good though.

More endgame presales talk! Its now the top preselling film ever in China. BOM's resident China experts are predicting $270m and $302m 5-day openings in China, even the lower of that would be incredible.

The guy predicting $302m did overestimate IW (he said 230-260 when it came in at 201) but he got caught out by record low pre-sale multiplier, which he is accounting for this time. FF8 had an unexpected low 2.52x presales for a hollywood movie OW, which is what he used for his estimation of IW. IW ended up being just 2.13x presales, unprecendeted low number. For Endgame he's using the lowest presales mutliplier ever seen in China, which is Monster Hunt 2 at 1.86x and that had so many crazy reasons for being so low which shouldn't apply to Endgame.

Even so, its likely that these will end up being overestimates. IW was a $201m debut so anything $230m+ in China is great, $250m+ would be brilliant. (reason being that both of these guys are presuming China absolutely loves Endgame and word of mouth is great, which of course might not happen).

Anyway, it looks like Endgame could be the first and probably only film which breaks the single territory OW record twice. Obviously current record is IW with $257M in domestic market. Endgame could beat that in China, setting a new record, and then have dom beat the China number.

Captain Marvel passed $400m domestic with an incredible estimated +6% this weekend. I wonder why CM would have grown this weekend over last weekend....

Spoiler for Hidden:

Anyway, with a nice Avengers boost CM may land right next to Aquaman WW with ~$1.14b, amazing really.
