Announced on the Take Two conference call.

What's surprising is that it is very much a consistent seller. It's the game of the generation with many buying the game when they pick up a current gen console.

For reference. Minecraft is the best selling paid game when combining sales of the Console, PC and Mobile versions with over 150m sold. GTAV is second. GTAV has now sold more than GTA III, VC, SA, and IV combined.

(Tetris technically sold more than both titles when you combine all the versions of the game).

GTA V is just insane.

Seems like a lot of big games from last gen are either crashing or getting massive.

Yeah. The number of big games is decreasing, but big games are getting bigger and bigger.

Wait wth, 17m already? Surely there's loads on the shelves for the holidays then?

Not really. Weekend revenue pointed to at least 10M sales, and you can guarantee its sold at least another few million in the week and a half since then. Probably only a couple mil on the shelves.

Hmm true but the price is higher outside the US, plus they had special editions right?

Sounds like one of maybe 2-3 of the fastest selling games ever

Yeah it seems for the most part marketing teams are getting better and reaching their audiences, as well as gaming in general growing a lot these past 10 years and becoming a lot more main stream.

I'm not sure what games youre talking about that are crashing and burning?

Xevross

Just shows you how much the online and a remaster, with staggered releases can help a game.

V has sold more than III, Vice City, San Andreas and IV combined. All of those games sold extremely well. Nuts!

Fewer big budget games are getting made. If your game does well then you'll make billions of dollars but if it just does meh then you will go bankrupt. The middle zone between success and failure has mostly disappeared.

Insanity. Well deserved. Gta v does 150m easy. Rdr2 hard to know but insane start.

Dr. Pezus

This is with online yet to come and surely a remaster for next gen. I'm gonna bet 100m+ for Rdr2 eventually as well lol

Hmm I don't know about that. GTAV took 5 years to reach 100M with a much bigger initial launch, and its also just a bigger IP. It also launched much closer to the end of the gen. Personally I think it'll reach around 40-50M by the time R*s next big game comes out, and then it'll die off to not much more than 50M. If next gen is backwards compatible then chop at least 10M off that.
