Final Fantasy's sales crisis is also an identity crisis | Opinion

QuoteThe appetite for reinvention which was a staple of the series from the outset has been twisted into an excuse to make entirely different types of game, not as experimental side-projects (which has always been a part of the brand, and has resulted in both some classic titles and some absolute dross over the years), but as mainline entries in the series.

A big argument throughout this article is that Final Fantasy reinventing itself is problematic. It makes it harder to build up a fanbase, if each game is radically different.

I wanted some takes from people who are probably less familiar with Final Fantasy.

What is your experience with Final Fantasy?

Do you view the game reinventing itself with each entry, a positive or a negative?

I like that the games reinvent themselves, but it makes it hard to get invested. For example I'd like a Final Fantasy 15 2, just because that's the only FF I've played. (I didn't even really play it, just watched my brother play some of it)
