The best game to do side quests IMO was the Witcher 3. They were all so well written, even the little stupid ones were entertaining. And I guess a big reason for that is in a way they all taught you something about the lore, world or characters of the the Witcher.

They get a lot of love, and for good reason, but I think the lameness of "find Ciri" also helped. Doing sidequests was way more fun.

I'm like that 90% of the time but every once and a while a game sucks me in and I just love spending time in the world. Horizon 1 and 2 both managed that for me.

I find Horizon's side quests are some of the best.  The actual doing things are cut and paste, but they're wrapped with good story telling.

Ummm excuse me.... The main story line was amazing. There was a lot of "side quests", which were optional quests but still affected the main story were also amazing, because if how strong the story was in general.
