Have you seen Sekirei?
Title: Re: The Anime Thread
Post by: darkknightkryta on May 03, 2014, 12:26 AM
I've read it.  But I bought the Blurays last year at Anime North.  I haven't gotten around to watching it.
Title: Re: The Anime Thread
Post by: Raven on May 03, 2014, 12:30 AM
Reading the manga always ruins the anime for me. I only read the manga if I have no choice to get the rest of the story. I would watch Sekirei just for the bosom, the comedy, and the animation quality. The English voice acting is also top notch in that one.
Title: Re: The Anime Thread
Post by: darkknightkryta on May 03, 2014, 12:36 AM
That's why I got it.  Though I agree, manga ruins anime. But at the same time, I would at least like to know what happens vs the manga.  Like censorship and stuff.

Persona 4 Golden Anime Series Announced, Airs in July

Atlus and MBS just announced that the PS Vita remake of Persona 4, subtitled The Golden, is going to get the anime series treatment.

The series will start airing on MBS this June, and you can find the teaser trailer just below.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to just go catatonic for a while as I watch that picture of Marie. She's charming, isn't she?

Hmmm that's exactly where I'm at. I wonder if i will lose interest as well?

I hope not. Its been a while since i found an exciting long running anime. All the good anime's i have watched recently have been short series with really high quality.

Anime like Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan etc.

Yeah I just rarely feel a longing for crazy long anime. I think the longest one I've watched is Monster. Now that was dang good.
FMA: Brotherhood probably takes second place in terms of length for me.

Edit: Oh, and Attack on Titan was crazy good. Blew me away tbh. Is there supposed to be a new season??

Yeah its been over a year now since I started my hiatus.

I've started on Monogatari Season 2 though - on episode 2 but that was a few weeks ago :P - time to make it daily!

Wolf Children was alright.  I personally don't like anime movies.  Everyone I watched always tried to make it like a few episodes in one.  It never works out.

Isn't that just movies in general, though? They are longer than TV shows and they're telling a continuous story like many TV shows do.

I wish they'd tell the writer of the Highschool of the Dead manga to drop dead and then just make a couple more seasons of the anime without him. Hell, they already took liberties with the first season.

The only thing that puts me off about Matsu is that she's sneaky and way too forward. Kazehana is forward too but hers is a more flirtatious and seductive manner. I would half expect Matsu to suddenly scream "LET'S BONE!". Tsukiumi is just the very strong girl but very sensitive underneath and there would probably never be a dull moment with her.

@Pezus what's it about?

Hard to explain. It's basically about a guy travelling around the country dealing with "supernatural" things called Mushi (they are neither dead nor alive and take many different forms). Excellent music, art and many interesting stories. Each episode is (usually I think) one story.

I recommend checking it out. However, be aware that this is not an action anime or a suspense anime ;o. Still very good

I disagree, there's very few anime out there that's animated as well and keeps up its art style.  Naruto for instance loses its art style when animating fast paced scenes.

That's what I'm trying to say. I actually didn't notice that part in Kill LA Kill, but I sure notice when Naruto turns to crud. Plus very few anime actually offer you that kind of animation like that (Naruto is indeed one of them). Let alone with that quality.

So, overall I love Death Note.
It was a different type of anime than I originally expected, but it is awesome.
Just wish they didn't kill my favorite character.

But it's like watching Game of Thrones. A character you love that then dies just makes it more memorable/awesome

More memorable sure.
But, it still makes me sad.  (And also determined to make human like AI so I can make him real.  :P  I'm crazy like that.)

So I went to my local anime con. I had a great time. The cosplay was awesome as always. There was this really hot Bayonetta cosplay chick also a really good Biig Daddy cosplayer it a working drill. Its also funny when a Naruto cosplayer was posesing with the big daddy. Cannot look more out of place. Also saw Big Boss eatting a pizza snd Sasuke pissing in a urinal lol.

Also had The Order and TLoU ps4 demo. The order looks so much like a movie although i think they have to work on the gunplay a bit more. TLoU is just a masterpiece.

So I was looking into Dragon Ball Kai Boo saga and it turns out that there's gonna be two version.  Jap version condensed to 40 some odd episodes and the international version at 69 episodes.  Since we're gonna be stuck with the 69 episodes, I'm gonna pass.

Any fans of Hajime No Ippo here?

Is it just or this the best anime ever? Its funny because i never see people talk about it. Its not on any most popular lists or favourite anime lists etc. But my god this is good. It can get seriously emotional at times and it just makes you feel good about life and doing something more with it.

i need a good anime with few episodes with a good mature story or something action packed, if you know something that might interest me please say something  :-*

Sword art online and Steins Gate. Both are relatively short and very intense.

Some say SAO is cliche but dont worry about that.

If you looking for longer animes, that keep the intensity up then HunterXHunter (this one does eventually drag a bit though) is pretty good as well as Hajime No Ippo - even if you dont like boxing watch it.

Title: Re: The Anime Thread

The same people who complain about cliches are the ones who would never be able to write a story without 10 cliches in the first chapter. It's just impossible to do anymore without drifting into the land of the completely absurd. It's the same when I hear people baby about something being "original".
Title: Re: The Anime Thread

Yeah i feel like every story is mostly cliche...its human nature to focus on the struggles and triumphs of human nature..so naturally most stories tend to be about that. Overcomming difficulties, protecting others, doing stuff for others, becomming stronger/successful through tenacity and perservence etc.

I was watching it with the japanese audio, I may switch to English to check it out.  I'm over watching only in Japanese now.  As long as the English dub is good anyways.  For instance, I can't stand Erza's english voice actress, but am fine with all the others in Fair Tail.  But since I can't stand Erza's voice, I have to watch it in Japaese.  As far as finishing Sekirei goes, once they finish the manga, it's been in and out of hiatus.  Kinda like Black Lagoon and Highschool of the Dead.

I need to start seriously watching anime again.

I've been taking breaks from watching One Piece so more eps will come out before I watch them daily.

Anyways I need to start and complete Monogatari Season 2 first since that was the last thing that I watched few months ago (2 eps though).

I blame Shakugan No Shana - watching all 3 seasons in a row killed my interest in anime due to the modern otakuness and ecchi/romance s*** in the series.

Edit: Wow S*** gets censored to Shame o.O

edit: shame - oh it works

It got so bad O_O.  They honestly needed to have dealt with Sasuke early on.  I think that's what was hurting the story.  Like deal with his issues early in the Shippuden arc and then have Sasuke be like the Vegeta or Hiei.  Now Sasuke is past redeeming at this point and should be killed off, but that's not gonna happen :/.

Isn't One Piece good though?  Black Lagoon is getting issues trickling in.  It's just hard to tell if the scanlators are behind or if the issues are coming out sporadically.  High School of the Dead had one issue made and funded by Yen Press (The U.S.A. licensee of the manga).  Guess that issue didn't make the money they wanted to continue funding the series, or something.

I'm just overall sad.  Pretty much every manga I read is ending, ended or on hiatus.  Naruto, Bleach. Sekirei are ending soon.  History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi is over in what was a rushed, lackluster ending.  Rosario Vampire also ended in a rushed lackluster ending.  Maouyuu Maou Yuusha also appears to be on hiatus (Not sure how the light novel is going).  High School of the Dead is dead for all intent and purposes.  Black Lagoon doesn't have a consistent schedule.  Good Ending, Kimi No Iru Machi, Princess Resurrection are over.  All the Lim Dal Young books he wrote got rushed endings since they were all on hiatus when he started freezing.  Only thing worth reading from him now is Legend of Maian and that's also on hiatus since the artist is working on Freezing Zero.  All I have left on the manga front is Princess Lucia, Fuuka, Fairy Tail(Which is wearing thin) and Breaker the New Waves.  There isn't even a good shonen replacing Naruto and Bleach.  I think the Jump might go out of business.

The Bount filler arc.

You make it sound like I watched the anime past Aizen escaping and Rukia getting saved.  Though I have contemplated watching the anime through, filler and all.  The action in the anime, hopefully even in filler, is top notch.  I just never got around to it.  Same with Naruto, but the more I try to watch it, the more cringe worthy it gets.  Inuyasha's another one I have to watch through for nostalgia's sake.

Lol I didn't make it sound like anything. I simply pointed out what he was referring to. The one thing about Bleach that always pissed me off is the inconsistency of the main character. How he goes from an angsty teenager, to a real badass, back to angst, back to badass, rinse and repeat.

Bah, Teenagers :P
I never watched the fillers and nobody should even watch it. I've only watched the Canon episodes and even those have small bits of inconsistency with the manga.

Something I just LOVE about Bleach though is the fact that it follows the Manga extremely well compared to other animes, I'm sure the Tokyo Ghoul fandom would've loved to have that quality :P

It does to an extent.  Though the days of ultra long anime that require filler are winding down.  Once Naruto's over there'll only be Fairy Tail and One Piece.  But from what I understand One Piece doesn't have much filler.

It's not just the Canon/Filler amount, it's the fact that the Manga and Anime have identical art styles. The animation team is really talented!

So Naruto is ending in a month, or week, I'm not quite too sure what the date is.

"NARUTO series will END on 11/10, FINAL EPISODE on Shonen Jump."

Not sure if November 10, or Ocotober 11th.

I actually quite liked what they did with the Fullbringer arc.  It was a breath of fresh air.  It had an actual build up, and the way everyone had turned on Ichigo cause of that dude's fullbring.  It was making me pretty tense.  Even the fights were pretty good and had a bit of psychology to it.  This current arc is a thrown together mess.  Sad thing is, he spent 5 weeks planning this arc :/

I honestly think he's just burned out on his own creation. This entire final arc feels more like a hastily thrown together work of tying up loose ends than an actual planned, satisfying story ender.

He's not even tying anything up and he's bringing more questions. The entire thing was stupid. They had Ichigo waste time in the palace to go bacl down, just to go back up to where he was... My head.

Well I didn't say he's successfully tying anything up. I said it feels like it's being hastily done. Clearly there are problems with the story. People wanted to know what Ichigo's real origin was. He gave us that. People want to know who the Zero Squard/Royal Guard members are. He showed us. People wanted to see the bankai of all the characters we knew had one but hadn't seen yet. Many of them have been shown. Who or what is the Spirit King or Soul King or whatever they hell they call him? We're going to find out. People wanted to know if Grimmjow survived. He hasn't literally shown him yet but it was heavily implied that Urahara was working with him in Hueco Mundo last I remember. Obviously none of that is being handled very well or is even really that important and now we come to find out that right underneath Soul Society's nose the entire time was a huge army of Quincy and their leader who is practically a dang god that everyone conveniently forgot to mention over the years. Someone who Yamamoto apparently fought a thousand years ago and gets killed by in very short order despite his own near godlike status, 10+ centuries of experience, and previous showdown with this guy.

Happens all the time. One minute I'm sitting there watching a totally clean anime and then suddenly one of the female characters starts groping another for no good reason and the girl starts half moaning. Suddenly, laying on my bed watching it on my computer screen from a distance sucks really bad when I need to turn down the volume. Now I'm scrambling like I should be ashamed.

Everyone gets married.  Choji marries one of the rock genin, who you see for a full 4 chapters.  Sasuke gets off scott free, gets the girl, and has an affair with Karin.  That last part I made up since Sasuke and Sakura give birth to a girl who looks exactly like Karin, glasses and all.  Naruto doesn't fix the ninja world like he's been screaming about for 700 issues, they show the 5 shadows as old and decrepit.  Especially bad for the mist shadow, they took such an exotic, intimidating woman and ruined her character.  They tell you nothing of Orochimaru and the rest of Hebi.  Or anyone else for that matter.  It was a generic ending that solved nothing.  700 chapters and nothing got done.

It gets better over time.

The lighting and the designs differ a bit due to how long the anime's been around - you can tell easily as well.

I need to catch up on One Piece though - I left off at episode 648 - and now they are on episode 670. So I might end up watching it in a marathon during the holidays :)

So I rewatched Episode 3 of Bleach.  What they did with the guitar was crazy.  It was so eerie, yet simple.  Not as good as the original Naruto OST or Inuyasha.  I'll say though, it's better than any of the generic "crud" we're getting now in anime (Listening to the music in Boo Kai is saddening).  Still Bleach's lore was pretty slick, too bad they didn't do much more with it.  Though I decided to try to watch it through with the filler.  My biggest complaint with the manga is the lack of character development.  I literally forgot about the girl with glasses @_@ and Kon.  So hopefully the filler can "fill" the void.

That's kinda why I'm gonna try the filler out. I have a feeling both Bleach and Naruto' manga were being written with the anime in mind. Like half way through, they just threw character development out. Maybe in hopes of using filler in the anime to sell it. So the character development that should have happened in the manga is in the filler. At least, that's my conspiracy theory.

Im theory is more simple they use filler just to give the manga alot more time gap if the anime is catching up to fast. The only filler that i enjoy are mostly comedy centeric ones.

I don't really like filler. So often it changes the tone of the show, because they're literally stalling for time.

Yup, it's why I stopped watching those long anime.  But I'm reconsidering for Bleach and Naruto, since my biggest complaint was the lack of character development, that may be in the filler.  Plus with Naruto, they literally left things out to put in the anime.

I tried watching Bleach. It go to the point that I was so bored I would skip ahead to fight scenes, just to break up the monotony.

Speaking of favourite intros, this is mine:

I was humming the theme everytime I played an episode.  We were marathoning it during Halloween while we were playing the Street Fighter deck building card game.

Thought I'd share a random anime story from me.  So when I was younger, I think when I was in grade 6, I went to Italy in the summer.  Now in Italy, there's only 8 channels, and of those 8 channels, they regularly show anime.  Throughout the day.  Now Cat Eyes was one of the anime I saw.  Another, I couldn't remember the name.  But it was weird.  So there was a male character and a female character.  They were at a cafe.  The female lead was playing cards.  The guy had run in.  Then randomly a biker gang walks in.  Now the female lead looked like Sailor Mars.  She gets into a fight with them and she throws one of the cards between one of the biker's eyes.  I was like "WTF?"  So anyways, he gets sent to another dimension with a little girl.  Now I had no idea what this anime was called.  So this anime was in the back of my mind for a while.  Fast forward to my university days.  So I asked my friend if he knew what it was from that vague card throwing description.  He didn't know.  I asked him on MSN maybe after school finished or a little before again. I mentioned the power to go to other dimensions.  He then gave me the name: Kimagure Orange Road.  So I managed to "Find it" and low and behold, at the last episode, there was a girl who looked like Sailor Mars throwing a card in between a a biker's eyes.  It was the same anime!  So remember, if there's a random anime you don't remember the name of ask a friend!  P.S. it's a good comedy, albeit old.  Probably one of the first love triangle comedy animes.  Check it out.

And this second one is my fav new opening.

And this is my new fav closing sequence.

I honestly set up a PS TV (The monitor) in my room (It's my friend's monitor) and just stream from my laptop to it.  I watch an episode or two of anime before I head to bed.

Yeah. an adult game from what I hear.  It's just I was really interested in the season finale that I couldn't wait a few months for the next season.  So I went to read the manga.  The other thing is that I didn't watch the original series and my friend was telling me that Saber getting taken over didn't happen.  But it's there in the manga.  Though I'm not sure I can get into the original series.  It seems like they took the story and had filler people write it.  But the comedy is way better in the original.  I actually miss that exaggerated comedy.

It's possible.  It's just that the events follow the manga closely, including the characterizations. Like Blade Works is very different from the original. But Blade Works is very close to the manga.  Not sure what's going to happen in the spring though.  They don't have enough episodes to get that far past Berserker.

Because you're crazy, that's why!

On another note, Anime North kinda screwed us over for ticketing.  They raised prices this year without telling anyone.  Not only did they do that, they sent us all e-mails New Years day at 12 am.  I personally didn't bother looking at the e-mail thoroughly.  When I did though; boy was I caught off guard.  They made it so that the first 5000 people got last year's pricing.  I checked January 2nd to go buy the tickets.  They were sold out.  I had to buy at the higher price.

I've contemplated Bleach and Naruto.  I might do Bleach.  With Naruto I'll probably stop with when Sasuke leaves.  I'm also contemplating Inuyasha.  Though it's mostly for nostalgia.  I get good feelings even just thinking of Inuyasha's first ending.  Reminds me of how amazing YTV was with anime.  It was the golden years.

Do yourself a favour and skip the filler, it's why so many people dislike Bleach :P
(You could always come back and watch the decent Zanpakutou Rebelion and Mod Soul filler arcs later on, just don't watch them before finishing because they're placed in the middle of the important arcs and have no connection with them at all).

I actually want to watch the filler. Part of the reason for me not enjoying Bleach and Naruto anymore was the lack of character development. The filler might solve that.

Yeah that one.  It's so avant-garde evil.  Plus the music in general's amazing.  We were watching the OVA during Halloween, my two friends break out into singing when Don't Lose Your Way started playing.  Such epic music.  Kinda sad music in anime's been going downhill.  Have you listened to the last set of episodes for Dragon Ball Kai?  The new episodes.  The music is soo bad.  It sounds like Sonic music.

Never bothered watching it. After having seen every DBZ and GT episode, all of the movies, and most of the original Dragon Ball I just had no interest in spending any time watching a rehash. So burned out and now that I'm older and have seen much better anime it's hard for me to get the enjoyment from it.

You mentioned you were watching Naruto, so I was sure if you caught up/read manga or not so I wasn't sure if you knew.  Though, I'm still missing a lot of context here as to why mentioning the rinnegan as a form of sharingan is a problem?  Like, who's saying that?  Is it Pain himself?  Or is it someone else who's fighting him?

Spoiler for Hidden:
<br />Hidan meets Pain in the game.&nbsp; Hidan makes the &quot;observation.&quot;&nbsp; <br />It's a problem, because there's no reason to make that assumption if you don't know what his jutsu is.&nbsp; <br /><br />It's fine if he says I wonder what dojutsu he uses. <br />This would be the same as, if you didn't know what a shovel was, then me handing you a shovel, you should be able to deduce that it's a tool.&nbsp; <br /><br />The problem is, is that he goes and makes an unbounded leap to a conclusion that he can't make, and one that does and doesn't make sense anyway. <br />Yes, it's related to the sharingan the same way the byakugan is, but to me it doesn't make a lot of sense to assume it's a form of sharingan.&nbsp; Maybe it's related to the byakugan?&nbsp; Maybe it's related to something &quot;Hidan&quot; doesn't know about.&nbsp; Doesn't make a lot of sense to jump to one conclusion, particularly when from first glance it's a big leap to make.&nbsp; <br />Majority of the characters don't know as much about the dojutsu as the viewer is another thing to consider.&nbsp; <br />

Hidan meets Pain in the game.  Hidan makes the "observation."
It's a problem, because there's no reason to make that assumption if you don't know what his jutsu is.

It's fine if he says I wonder what dojutsu he uses.
This would be the same as, if you didn't know what a shovel was, then me handing you a shovel, you should be able to deduce that it's a tool.

The problem is, is that he goes and makes an unbounded leap to a conclusion that he can't make, and one that does and doesn't make sense anyway.
Yes, it's related to the sharingan the same way the byakugan is, but to me it doesn't make a lot of sense to assume it's a form of sharingan.  Maybe it's related to the byakugan?  Maybe it's related to something "Hidan" doesn't know about.  Doesn't make a lot of sense to jump to one conclusion, particularly when from first glance it's a big leap to make.
Majority of the characters don't know as much about the dojutsu as the viewer is another thing to consider.

I wouldn't be surprised if the manga writers made that "observation" when they took over and wrote non-sense to make them connect in the first place ;o

I gotta get that and Bebop.  Maybe I'll get them at Anime North this year.
There's just something about the director, Watanabe. Kids on the Slope was also great.

Has anyone seen Terror in Resonance (also by Watanabe)?
It's on Netflix apparently! Didn't know about it until now when I looked him up

Michiko & Hatchin is a good one.  It's not amazing, but it's a decent watch.  The art style, as you can guess, is fantastic.  Very rarely have I seen a woman drawn as sexy as Michiko

It was a big theme.  The sorrow and solitude.  Essentially, you'll be sorry if you're lonely.  Thus Naruto tries everything he can to not be lonely.  Works out nicely.  Unless your Sasuke which means you loneliness gets you everything -_-

Yeah Sasuke doesn't even get a slap on the wrist.  Like, the way I see it, the way Sasuke's character was being built, he literally needed to die.  Or turn him into a true villain where Naruto needed to put him down so to speak.  Instead they just flip flopped through the whole thing.  Funny thing is; Sasuke never truly redeems himself.  A whole lot of non-sense.

I mean that can be the ending, but this at the bolded.  Sasuke can come back sure, that'd be great.  Naruto promised that would be what he would do.  But Sasuke needed to do something too.  He did some bad stuff.  The story should have had a turn around arc at the very least.

They "tried" but it was more of "see he helped, now forgive him for the iced up things he did" kinda thing.  It was kinda shoved down our throats worse than Roman Reign.  Not once did he ever regret what he did.  I mean, most of the people Naruto "saved" greatly regret their life in a way.  Even Zabuza regretted the way he treated Haku and realized how despicable he was.  Gaara managed to realize there is a point to friends and family, so the way he lived and treated his siblings was wrong.  As such he grew.  etc.  Not Sasuke.  It was more of, they didn't know how to redeem Sasuke and were running out of time.  They kinda wrote themselves into a corner in having to "save" him, but they didn't know how to do it.  Plus the way he just gets off scott free, and gets the "prize".  It was stupid.

Since I've seen neither: Sure!!!!!!Wat?

Exactly :P .  Is the Order a Rabbit is a ... guess a shojo anime.  It's about a bunch of elementary school girls working at a cafe in what looks to be a victorian era looking town.  The town itself is in modern times, but the architecture looks old.  It's a very light hearted, slice of life manga.  Short though, 12 episodes.  I wouldn't call Sekirei non-mainstream.  Rosario Vampire though?  That's a toughie.  The manga is big enough, but the anime really isn't.

Edit:  I was thinking about it a bit more.  There's a bunch of anime that was big back in the day, but are probably niche now.  For instance, I remember Ouran Host Club was pretty big here.  There were a lot of people cosplaying them, the twins at least.  I even saw a cosplay for them at Fan Expo, which is more or less strictly comics and games.  Now if I were to talk to people about Ouran, I highly doubt anyone would know.  Gundam Wing was huge, not anymore.  Soul Eater, again, lots of cosplays.  Now?  Nothing.

So I was on some Dragon Ball forums; very big set of elitists.  They were trashing Viz' bluray release of Sailor Moon. Funny thing is, they were saying that Toei's remaster is better.  So I popped my Bluray in to compare to the images they put in.  They were almost identical...  There was some brightness/saturation differences, but brightness differences is due to the ntsc standard in Japan vs here.  Saturation could be any number of things, including having a messed up TV of mine.

I've noticed a disgusting number of people who trash Western releases of anime for no good reason. Yeah, a lot of anime gets terrible dubbing but there are plenty that are done very well and sometimes even much better than the Japanese original.

Thing that bugs me, is that Viz didn't have much to work with for their release, and from the looks of things, neither did Toei.  So they took their DVD master that Toei made from betas, upres'ed them and tried to filter it so it didn't look like dog.  The end result is something pretty decent and almost in line with most current cartoon restorations.  Is it as nice as something like Ranma?  No, but that company had the film reels to work with.  Not sure what the DVD portion of the discs are like though.  Those might have been scrubbed clean, and if they were I'd be disappointed with.  The Blurays though; are as good as we'll get.

On a different note, the really funny thing is when the character from the Japanese and English versions sound the same.  I think there is a character or two in Naruto that sound the same, but I'm not sure.  It's been a while.

TOKYO (April 28, 2015) - Toei Animation has announced production on Dragon Ball Super (Japanese title; tentative
for English release), the first all-new Dragon Ball television series to be released in 18 years. Following the recent events of the hit feature film, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', Dragon Ball Super will debut in Japan in July 2015.

Reuniting the franchise's iconic characters, Dragon Ball Super will follow the aftermath of Goku's fierce battle with Majin Buu, as he attempts to maintain earth's fragile peace. Overseen by Dragon Ball's original creator, Akira Toriyama and produced with Fuji Television, Dragon Ball Super will draw on its historic past to create a bold, new universe welcoming to fans and endearing to new viewers.

So after Anime North I tend to go on an anime binge.  I need about 6 anime to watch (I can squeeze 6 episodes into 2 hours, which is all I normally have a night).

So I was thinking of finally finishing off Ouran High School Host Club.  I have like 3 episodes left, but I didn't wanna finish since I knew it'd be over if I did :(.

Probably gonna finish off Dragon Ball Z cause that's 15 or so episodes left.

Fate/Stay started up again so that's going to the queue.

Full Metal will probably be added.

Not sure for after that.  Any suggestions?

You live your entire life as a criminal in a desert. The only companionship you have a talking cat. One day, desperate for something of worth in your dirt-ridden existence, you try to rob a teenage girl, a pig, and a small boy. The small boy kicks your teeth out after seeing a girl makes you bashful and embarrassed, and peeping a titty makes you pass out.

When confronted with the possibility of having any wish granted by a magical dragon, your wish would be "I don't want to drop spaghetti while looking at a lady"

You then spend days creeping on these folks, watching for a way to achieve this lofty goal, you are forced to hit a little girl (one of your few [only?] victories) and then hit on her.

Eventually you are captured and saved only when the little kid turns into a giant monkey. The pig does more than you to save the day.

But it's okay, right? You finally got a girlfriend. Well, kind of. You don't really see each other that often.

You decide to show the world your stuff and enter into the Tenkaichi Budokai, the greatest martial arts tournament of all time. You are immediately eliminated in the quarter finals by an old man nobody's heard of before. You embarrass and humiliate yourself by insisting that it's a different old man in disguise before being proven a fool.

The next time you hear from Goku, he's taking on terrorist Nazis or some crazy shame. So you gear up to raid the Hydra base and... you're not needed at all. You get a sinking feeling in your heart, like this won't be getting old soon.

You help Goku fight the fortune teller's fighters. An invisible man beats you up and you barely win when your girlfriend's bosom are gawked at by an old man. You are then beaten up by a mummy.

But the Turtle Hermit, greatest living martial arts master, has taken you in. You'll do well in the next tournament!

Nope. The heel you challenged beats and destroys you in front of a crowd. You are helpless. Like a child. Your legs, broken. By the end of the tournament, the man who brutalized you is declared champion, but he decided to be "nice" now, so you have to pretend that it's okay and you're friends after he annihilated your pride for all to see.

A demon king attacks the world and you stay with the peanut gallery. The bad guy doesn't even bother to go after you despite specifically targeting martial artists. Jesus Christ.

Speaking of God, Goku is training with God now. You feel so very small and weak. M-maybe the next tournament.... ?

The next tournament sees you headbutted in the junk and defeated handily by a middle aged tourist. True, it's God in disguise, but still. Nobody knows that. Yamcha, the desert bandit. His tournament career ended by an old man. That's your public legacy.

(Also you have a scar for some reason, which is kind of pathetic considering that the children who underwent the same training didn't get maimed like you.)

Oh, and Goku gets married before you, and he doesn't even know what marriage is.

Years pass and you become a baseball player. That one glorious period of fame and recognition is going to come to an end. You learn that Goku's dead and it's time for you and the others to take the lead. Time to train under God himself to protect the Earth from deadly alie

nvm you died. krillin destroys several saibamen with a single attack, while you lie lifeless in the dirt. good try though. yajirobe and the five year old do more than you.

For the next few months you sit on a planet while King Kai teaches you jack shame.

You come back to life! Your girlfriend breaks up with you and immediately starts flirting with the guy who got you killed less than a year ago. His power is so strong and big compared to yours, flaccid and tiny. You can only stand around and cry when Frieza comes to Earth, and are filled with joy when he's defeated by a mysterious stranger from the future who gives you a dire warning that you're going to fail in another timeline as well.

After three years of training your ex hooks up with the evil spaceman and they make a baby, who you have to help change the diapers of whenever you swing by

You get punched through the chest by an old man without doing anything. You try to explain that they can steal your energy, but you could have done something before that. You just don't care anymore. You wait until Goku's nearly dead to explain the energy stealing bit, and then take him back home to babysit him as you openly acknowledge your uselessness

Oh and the future stranger is Bulma and Vegeta's badass robot fighting son, and thus the whole fate of two worlds depended on Vegeta and Bulma's amazing sweaty unprotected lovemaking. Nothing has ever depended on you or ever will

Tien does more than you when he holds off the bugman. You just do nothing. Krillin gets a robot girlfriend who barely ages. You get nothing.

A tournament comes around again and the gang is getting together for old time's sake. Even Krillin is going to enter. Good ol' Krillin. Always there for the team. Always in the fight, even when he's outclassed.

You stay in the stands with Krillin's daughter to babysit her. Your ex-girlfriend cheers on her husband and their son, who wins the junior division. You have no son.

When they all fly off to fight Majin Buu nobody even thinks about inviting you to come and help

Nobody ever thinks about you

Have you seen the movie version of Unlimited Works or Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero series?

Unlimited Works series is the only one I havent seen but the rest I have and yes it is full of feels.

Also its worth noting that the "Lancers" in the entire series all get iced in one way or another - wont spoil it to you - lets just say they get iced over lol.

You cant be serious LOL.

Getting rekt is better than getting screwed over by your own master.

Sure Rider gets the worst end on almost all the seasons but at least the representative for rider didnt die from betrayal, etc lol.

Specifically on Fate/Zero - I feel sorry for the lancer on that season - to do something from that horrible master's order to end his life in a horrible way too :(

Yeah, but I mean, she dies, pretty badly in ever story.  I don't think there's a scenario where she lives.

So I think I decided on my current roster of anime:

Dragon Ball
Dururara
Guarren Lagan
Full Metal Alchemist
Dragon Ball Z
Slayers

Probably finish up Ouran High School Host and Is the Order a Rabbit since I have only a few episodes left to watch.

Gurren Lagann was amazing

So I keep hearing.  Funny story.  So Bandai used to release a lot of anime here, Japanese style with 4 episodes per disc for like 40 bucks. Those never sold.  Overstock went to the dollar stores.  Last year at Anime North, people were looking for the DVD sets.  They mentioned they found some at the dollar stores.  The whole set on Bluray is 500 dollars now...

You asked me what more I could ask for and I told you. Telling me what I don't have to watch a show for and then following it up by telling me that better is subjective is pretty interesting. I've watched the show. I don't like any of the recurring characters save for the perverted monk. I feel it's incredibly overrated. You're not going to convince me otherwise because I already tried to like it. I was left very far from liking it. So I will always refer to this anime you like as "crud".

Okay, I need to vent about something regarding a typical anime character type. I am getting REALLY tired of these male characters who act like total pansies around girls who are throwing themselves at them. I'm cool with that character type for the most part. Trying to create an innocent and respectable character. It's also often teenage guys who get easily flustered. I get that. However, it would just be nice for a change for the male characters to be more aggressive a little more often. Like this anime I'm watching right now called The Asterisk War. The hot student council president goes to thank the main male character for his compliance to her request by basically offering him naughtiness and making it pretty clear that it's not against her will at all. That she probably would have done it regardless. She takes his hand and makes him grab one of her two natural pines. This guy totally freaks and runs away. He has no obligation to any other female characters and it seems clear he's not gay. She is quite attractive, she just asked him to put himself in harms way, they are alone, and she's basically top dog of the student body. What. The. fudge?

It's called "Comedy" get it or GTFO!  Seriously though, it's a standard comedy trope.  Which is starting to run its course.  Though, there are other forms of anime where the male character doesn't run away.

If you really want to see an anime where the male protag isn't a pansy, I don't recommend this, but you kinda did ask for it....

Spoiler for Hidden:
Shinmai Maou no Testament

Yeah, Kill La Kill was honestly the first anime in a long time that just destroyed all anime conventions and poked fun at them all.  Hasn't been much since (Though it has only been two years).  Still, I wonder what's going to happen now that all the longer running Shonen Jump animes have finally finished.  Nothing has really come around to take over Naruto and Bleach.

One Piece and Fairy Tail seem to be the only really long running anime series left. I'm still crossing my fingers that they fire up another series of Bleach once the manga gets close to ending. I know Bleach hasn't sat well with you lately in the manga but I'd just like to see the actual conclusion in anime form after all the time I gave it.

EDIT: Durarara seems to still be going, now that I think about it.

X2 is still going. They just released the final episode of the second season of X2 on September 26th. A third season of it is planned. There will be 36 episodes in total for X2. The two mangas and the second set of light novels are ongoing. So we might see even more anime adaptation later. Though it will probably be a long time from now. It took them 5 years to get started on X2.

I thought X2 ended after 12 episodes.  I knew the manga was going, but still.  Didn't think there was enough story to make it go for so long.  I'm actually disappointed Kenichi didn't go for much longer.  Up until the last arc, it was really good.

Looking at Crunchyroll right now. X2 currently has 24 episodes spread across two seasons. Wikipedia says a third season will follow and end X2 at 36 episodes.

Yeah, I really liked Kenichi. I was surprised when I stumbled onto the OVA series but it only lasted for 11 episodes.

I should point out do not get discouraged by the fanservice in the first 2 episodes (especially in the 2nd one). After that, it gets toned down by a lot.

Just saw the last episode of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (Chivalry of a Failed Knight). I have to say, for an anime of an extremely saturated genre (battle academy), this is the best I've seen. Not a masterpiece, mind you, but it is better than most of the battle academy anime I've seen. The romance really takes the cake because the MC isn't dense as hell nor does he end up in a harem.

Basically, the protagonist, Souma Yukihara, is an aspiring cook. He has been helping his dad run their family restaurant for several years and hopes to eventually take it over. However, his dad suddenly decided to close down the restaurant for a few years to cook around the world. He had Souma enroll in Totsuki Academy, a prestigous culinary school that only has a 10% graduation rate, so his son can broaden his horizons.

Yeah, kind of.  The flashback episodes were generally used purposefully, though not any less annoying.

I'm not sure if I think it the greatest, but I totally agree.  The original soundtrack was much better; and honestly the biggest thing in my mind is that it was also used so much better.

The music was used so much more effectively to give feelings of intensity, sadness, excitement.  So much better utilized in the original series.  You can like think back to certain scenes in the series, and music starts playing in your head from that moment.  The sad music was always just great, there were moments I remember tearing up just because of how it all went together.

Just fricken amazing.  I definitely have to say, easily one of the best.

Sadness and Sorrow is the saddest song I've ever heard in my life.  Not in a bad way, but because of the way it brings emotion to any scene.  Like when young Lee was jumping rope and he tripped and fell.  Then he started crying cause he was trying so hard.  Then I started crying cause of all the feels.  All while Sadness and Sorrow was playing.  I actually warned my sister when YTV (Nickelodeon's Canadian equivalent), was showing that arc.  I warned her to skip that episode cause it was so sad.  She couldn't handle it at the time and didn't watch it.  Point is.  No soundtrack gives this kind of emotion.   Sadness or hype (Some older music was really fast paced and epic), Naruto's music is unchallenged.

This fight needed have happened earlier, and the last half should never have happened.  Either that or Sasuke should have died.  I also disagree, Naruto was just as bad as Bleach.  I guess Bleach just had bad fillers?  I also don't think the person who made this video doesn't realize that Kishimoto stopped writing/drawing.  He had his honey moon, they stopped Naruto for a few weeks for it.  He's also wrong about Naruto's art that I don't think the author realizes.  Naruto's art did get better, the character models are WAY better later on.  The backgrounds took a hit.  But that goes back to Kishimoto not drawing anymore, I'm also sure he stopped writing too.  *I was typing this as I was watching, looks like the author figured out what I did but I think he underestimates management mucking with things.

What he's saying is that Kishimoto was burned out, which led to his art and story getting worse.  I'm saying he wasn't even writing/drawing at all.  The new artist's drew characters with better detail, but the backgrounds got worse.  The writing got terrible cause he wasn't writing and Jump/Pierrot probably took over writing duties.  He was probably just setting up outlines and overseeing things.  Like, the entire ninja war was setup to handle anime filler.  Which is the manga's biggest problem with that arc, since it was so disjoint and rushed.  That part was also a huge chunk of the story.  He most likely passed off drawing to his assistants starting in the second half of the series, and then handed off writing duties after Naruto learns the Wind Rasengan.

Yeah, that's why I added in my original post that I realized what he was saying.  I typed most of that as he was talking and didn't want to change it.  I just think he underestimates how much of the writing/drawing was taken over.  Bleach might have been because of burn out, since drawing has been pretty consistent.  Maybe there was less planning with the anime people with Bleach than there was with Naruto?

I'm pleasantly surprised at the Pokemon Sun & Moon anime. The biggest fear I had was Ash regressing like he did from Diamond & Pearl to Black & White. So far, he still has the competence albeit with a more carefree personality. The animation is really nice. It's actually very dynamic and smooth. It's just I still don't like Ash's new face that much...

Yeah, Gundam Wing is one of my favourite animes.  A little bit because it's amazing and a little bit because of nostalgia.  On another note, I might set a night aside for watching anime.  I'm getting the itch to watch stuff again.

You been on a hiatus? I was on for about 3 years lol.

Watching NANA last 2 months almost made me go back to a hiatus but watching DBS/OP/NS kinda saved me but the anime that truly kept me on track is Mobile Suit Gundam l0l.

Akashic Records is pretty decent. It reminds me of Rakudai Kishi in that the magical academy setting has already been done several times, but it's competent and does enough to be a bit different from the others.

Just finished the first season of Is the Order a Rabbit.  I was putting it off cause they didn't announce the second season when I was watching it.
Does anyone else not finish something cause you don't want it to end?  I personally haven't finished Ouran High School Host in like the 4 years since I bought it for the same reason (3 or so episodes left to watch)

Never seen build fighters but when you turn a sequel to one of the darkest anime in the Gundam series to a light hearted comedy with some of the villains from the previous anime and some of the major characters into a bunch of jokes, your ratings are gonna go down and people wont watch it.

Supposedly from what I read, the creator was going through depression and the fact that a lot of major characters died at the series premiere in Gundam Zeta, the creator (with his wife, and his co-workers) decided to make the sequel to Zeta gundam which is Gundam ZZ a comedy.......thankfully from what I heard due to the drop in ratings, they decided to make the 2nd half of the show dark like Gundam Zeta.

It didnt help it though in the end because it was the first Gundam anime not to get dubbed (while Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Zeta) were the first two Gundam anime and both were dubbed shortly.

Fan service in ZZ? None so far and I'm 5 episodes in.

But ya, and not the typical comedy stuff you see in stuff these days but stuff like Looney tunes comedy where a character does some crazy inhuman animation exaggeration.

Here's something from the anime....have you seen something stupid like this in a Gundam anime?

There's just so much cringe in this.

What a shame way to end a three part series.....at least they kinda redeemed the story when making the movie l0l.

Gundam ZZ is complete battleship, cant believe there's a worse gundam than Gundam Seed but lo behold there is.

How does a character who jumped to cover someone - did not get hit by anything, no injuries occurred, a rock fell a couple of feet away from her and supposedly that killed her......

While another character got shot in the stomach, then got beaten up with a rod by another character, suffered a fever from the infection, got a mobile suit crashed into the hut she was resting in, exploded and completely caught on fire, suddenly came back alive couple of episodes later with no injuries or burns.

Amazing, simply fricken amazing XD

AoT's OST is awesome.

I guess after I'm done with Korra I'll watch Kill La Kill

Also I finished The Last Airbender yesterday.

Really good series but Korra from the first two eps I've watched...dont look like I'll like it as much.

It suffers from the same fate that many sequel cartoons or successor cartoons suffer (i.e. Rugrats and "All Grown Up") - targeting teens and forcing modern social issues and politics.

Also dat modernizing. How do you go from medieval setting to a setting with cars and buildings, etc in a span of less than 100 years?

To be honest, the biggest thing that killed Korra was the fact that it was never supposed to be longer than 12 episodes.  Because of that, and the overall lower episode count, season 2 was practically destroyed because there wasn't enough time for it.  Like what made Air Bender so amazing was that it was an adventure.  20 some odd episodes per season, was enough to give Ang an adventure while working on developing the cast and Zuko.  Season 1 barely got by with its 12 episodes, season 2 just was rushed while telling nothing, and was also 14 episodes.  Season 3 was just as good as anything Air Bender produced though.  OMG Basil, season 3 was crazy.  When spoiler stuff happens, all bets are off.  My jaw literally dropped at one point.  I was like "WTF am I watching?".  It was the only thing the show was able to do in like 12 episodes.  I haven't finished Season 4 yet, but it looks like it suffers the same issue as season 1 and 2.  So pretty much season 1,2 and 4 needed 20 episodes to flesh things out, they never got it.  So it was just weirdly disjoint.  Korra is still good, but Air Bender is honestly the best show I've ever watched.

I hope it its good overall.

Also I have the platinum/activision game which is the reason why I decided to start on the Avatar series lol.

Apparently it takes place between seasons 1 and 2 for Korra. I heard its bad....but w/e I guess.

I hope it its good overall.

Also I have the platinum/activision game which is the reason why I decided to start on the Avatar series lol.

Apparently it takes place between seasons 1 and 2 for Korra. I heard its bad....but w/e I guess.
I think I'm on the last boss.  I never finished it though.  It was alright.

Also dat modernizing. How do you go from medieval setting to a setting with cars and buildings, etc in a span of less than 100 years?
Avatar isn't really medieval.

The main series starts out with these sophisticated battle ships, gigantic drills and factories. They had tanks, submarines, airships by the end of it.
The start of the series is probably closer to 1870.   Maybe something like 1850.
Cars being common, isn't that bizarre, 70+ years after the invention of the tank.

Technology in the world is probably largely held back by bending.  People don't need to invent some fancy thing, because they can just hire someone to do something.
And probably some other aspects of religion in the world.

Additionally there was a lot of variety in the world.  The fire nation has pretty sophisticated technology, the southern water tribe was very poor and they didn't really have much.  The northern was much further along.  Earth kingdom varied from place to place.  Some places very poor, others not all that far off from the fire nation.

Already seen 7 eps of Korra so far.

They were going for a Steampunk style with Korra.  It's a bit jarring at first.  You get used to it.  But I agree about Air Bender's style.  I like it better.

I hope so lol

Korra game takes place between seasons 2 and 3 apparently so I'll play it after I'm done with Season 2.

It will be my first Activision published game and 2nd platinum developed game.

Yeah , it is getting better. I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

I highly doubt it'll be a disaster like going from Rugrats to All Grown Up XD.

I prefer Avatars setting.
Avatar is a masterpiece, Korra was just okay.  It had some excellent episodes though.

Alongside Korra, I've been watching 4 anime.

Dragon Ball Super - Loving the tournament of power arc, though I feel tonight's episode will not be as good as the last three but I hope I am wrong.

One Piece - The Big Mom Arc started out alright but its going a bit slow now because they are trying to make the manga be ahead of the anime. OP is truly the Dragon ball z of today's generation. Making all these filler eps of fights that last for 15 minutes in story time but episodes span 10-15 eps. DBS is kinda like that too but not as offensive as DBZ in the 1990s/early 2000s.

Boruto - I am liking the pacing and story telling far more than original Naruto. The characters are much more likeable too. This and DBS is possibly my most favorite anime right now. OP fell off a lot since the last few weeks for me.

Dragon Ball Z Kai - Started this a week ago or so. Havent really watched that many eps - only on episode 8. They cut down 90% of the filler eps so the story is progressing a lot faster but a lot of the filler eps showed stuff that would made more sense in what is being shown in DBZ Kai. For an example in the original DBZ they showed how Goku learned all the attacks like the spirit bomb and kaio ken but they dont even show it in DBZ Kai - they did a rush job on Spirit bomb and dont even mention kaio ken which is like one of the main techniques he learns and uses against Vegeta in this arc. Also they showed Chi Chi passed out on episode 8 but never really explained it but in the original she passed out because she saw Gohan fighting lol.

I'm currently ripping some blurays right now so I'm not sure if I should start something I ripped or maybe finish something.  I cleaned up "Is the Order a Rabbit" season 1.  I have like 10 episodes of Durarara x2 to finish (I'm so bored with this anime.)  I'm maybe 4 episodes into Drfiters.  I've been keeping up with Dragon Ball Super, but I haven't watched the previous episodes.  I started watching after the Saiyaman fillers.  I finished One Punch Man.  I don't think I really want more of it to be honest, there's something off about it.  I had caught up to My Hero Academia, but I started reading the manga so I stopped watching (I need to stop doing that).  So much to watch, I have so many blurays and DVDs of anime.  Plus what I want to watch on Stream and stuff.   Le sigh.

Wifey and I are likely to buy all the Studio Ghibli movies.  She really likes them.
Just bought From Up on Poppy Hill.

She also loved Totoro.

So guess what time of year is approaching?

Have you seen Sekirei?
I finished the first season, but the second season being off from the manga put me off from finishing it.  Did you like the second season?

And holy shame it's been 5 years since I bought the blurays... time flies.

There was a friend I used to hang out with, he was my "Smash Bros. Hipster" friend who was brainwashed by Nintendo.  I remember when we were talking about me buying the blurays at Anime North.  He was defending me... I don't see him much anymore :'(

*Aang.

Someone was arguing that Roku knew what would happen with Katara getting burned and that this was helpful later.

Even ignoring that, I think the issue was that Aang wasn't sure when he'd find d a teacher.

I think it was just unknown writing at the time.  Like it was early so they were still figuring things out.  Like how they dealt with the spirits in Air Bender vs the Spirits in Korra are completely different.

So Anime North was supposed to be this weekend.  It didn't bug me yesterday, which is weird, since I like going Saturday the most.  It bugged me today.  Which is also weird, since I don't like going on Sundays and haven't actually gone on Sunday for a few years.  That said, looking through Crunchyroll, I found out there's a new Digimon series.  It's 3 episodes in.  Also got delayed cause of the virus.  What are you guys watching for anime?  I need something to fill the void.

Attack on Titans is over.  I'll say, it was pretty epic when it first came out.  There were so many cosplayers at Anime North the year it came out (And years after).  I remember I showed my friend, who doesn't really watch anime, it.  He went out and bought the first 12 or whatever episodes that was on Blu-ray.  Probably the biggest franchise since Naruto and Bleach (Kill la Kill being big for the year, but too short).  I enjoyed the series enough to read the manga.  I dropped the series after they went from a flash back into a time skip, but regardless.

Here's to you Attack on Titans

I think the anime is still going for a bit longer.  This is the last season I think?  I wanna say it was 5 seasons.  I wasn't impressed with a plot point, so I bounced off.  It should have been good right up until the end of the manga.  I heard the ending was Games of Thrones bad, but I haven't seen either so I won't comment.
