Are they going to announce the release date in the show case or will they drop it in a blog post?

Horizon's release date was announced two weeks before the September 2021 showcase.
GT7 was announced the same day as the showcase, I think in an extended trailer from the showcase.

Subtly me, assuming a showcase is happening.  ;)

nothing subtle about it.   ...and i don't know why you'd want to be.   i believe i'm the only one here that thinks it's not happening.

Why wouldn't you want a showcase?

Why wouldn't you want a showcase?
where did i say anything about my "wants"?   i said i "think" there won't be one.   i don't see hour long presentations with trailer after trailer being a part of sony's plans anymore.

...and to comment on my wants.   honestly the more peicemeal approach isn't soo bad.   every E3 ever seems to disappoint people.   everyone judges these presentations though the lense of "i'm only impressed about the games i want to play".   an hour showcase could have 3-4 massive announcements and if there are 10 indie games they don't care for inbetween those announcements they'll shame on it anyways.  plus it's just information overload.

i really like the hogwarts legacy and gran turismo showcases sony did a while back.  1 game only so i can skip it if i have no interest.  but the show had depth and wasn't just a CGI trailer for a game that won't ship for 7 years as a way to put filler into a show that arbitrarily needs to be over an hour and have at least 20 announcement in order to be deem "not good but okay".

also i don't like the months inbetween where we get absolutely no news at all for 6 months.

Sorry I misunderstood this bit.

But, I think it's currently part of their strategy:

- a couple 40-60 minute showcases a year for big announcements like God of War.

- State of Play a month or two prior to a release that focuses extensively on that release

- General State of Plays for smaller announcements

- various announcements through the year for continued engagement.

At least this was how they engaged in 2020/2021, and it seems to be working well for them.

So September it is, judging off Horizon's timeline.

This secrecy is so weird.

This secrecy is so weird.
There's been a weird divide with how game announcements have been.

Either waiting until it's basically gone gold to announce the release date/or in some cases the game itself. Like the GTA Trilogy (disaster that it was) was announced a month before launch.  Mass Effect trilogy was a more reasonable 6 months I think, and the release date was announced like 3 months prior to launch. And Demons Souls's release date was announced like a month and a half before it came out.

Or announcing way too early. Like this star wars game is coming out in like 2026 if you're lucky. Nothing else to share right now.

It's very weird. On the one end they don't seem to be announcing stuff until they're 100% sure it'll hold, and on the other end some things are early to help with recruiting.

There's not as much normal middle ground as there used to be.

So if I believe this person, seemingly GoW was delayed.

It's hard to definitely prove a negative but Someone Who Would Know Firsthand just told me they haven't heard anything about a slip to 2023, as did Someone Else Who Might Know Secondhand.

God of War Ragnarok, the latest entry in the long-running series and a direct sequel to 2018's God of War, was announced in 2020 for PlayStation consoles. Sony has delayed the game several times since then, both publicly and internally, as its developers deal with the pandemic and other production challenges. Earlier this year it was planned for September, but it was recently bumped to November. A spokesman for Sony didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Doubt that holds.

I've been team 2023 for so long. It's all coming together.

BananaKing

I think its coming this year. They can even release it in December if they need some extra time.

But as of right now its

TLoU remake September
Forespoken October
GoW November

Thats not a bad line up at all.

GoW is a fantastic line up all by itself.

I'm not caring about the remaster of TloU.  now seeing it I'm even more down on it because it's looking to be just visuals and not something more akin to the "reimagination" of ratchet and clank".

forespoken is a wild card.   can't decide if I'm excited or meh on it yet.

TLOU is also bringing the gameplay improvements from the second game.

It will come out November 11th.

Some people think it'll get announced today.

Santa Monica tweeted out "it's not Thor's day yet"
