I think it's a little silly that EGS is acting like they are heroes standing up to big bad Valve.
A lot of the anti-EGS just seems driven by Steam fanboyism of sorts, but there are a few things about EGS that aren't great. Valve puts in a lot of work in supporting developers with APIs (SteamVR, controllers, free steams keys to be sold, etc), and they handle transactions (Even eating the cost when the transaction takes up most of what their cut would be).
If Steam committed to a permanent 88% revenue share for all developers and publishers without major strings attached, Epic would hastily organize a retreat from exclusives (while honoring our partner commitments) and consider putting our own games on Steam.
