Hello!
I'm Mike Armbrust and I developed Twisty Puzzle Simulator. This post will be community driven and evolve as the game evolves. For now, feel free to post anything related to Twisty Puzzle Simulator. I'll update the OP as needed.
The "Easy Update" - Released
New difficulty options for all puzzles.
The "Adventure Update" - Released
An all new campaign and new puzzles.
The "Global Update"
Once Twisty Puzzle Simulator is available worldwide, network features will be added to the game. This update will add leaderboards, global statistics, and other cool ways to compare and share your puzzle solving experiences. This update will also add advanced local statistics allowing you to view graphs of your solve history. Twisty Puzzle Simulator already keeps track of this information for you so the graphs will be able to extend all the way back to the first time you started playing.
Lastly because this is Twisty Puzzle Simulator after all, the update will add additional secret puzzles.

Hey Mike, this game has really caught my interest, and i have a few questions. before that, though, i've been addicted to loking up videos of random cubes. always liked them as a kid, but never the brain power to solve one.
first question, could you upload a bit of gameplay? the trailer shows it, but it'd be nice to see some normal gameplay.
second, have you test out each individual trophy to see it pops properly? i usually go for all trophies on a game, and im a bit fed up recently with lots of bugged trophies in games.
finally, will this be a tough game to solve all puzzles on? i am looking for a solid challenge.

thanks for al the info! glad to hear this will be tough, i wasn't sure if it was a game geared towads the "ezpa" community of trophy hunters. It would be cool to see you add in some trophies for the ultra hard secret puzzles when they are added in the game! i'll be picking this up within the weeks leading up to christmas.
Update announcement!
Twisty Puzzle Simulator 1.02, the Easy Update, adds difficulty options.
Easy-only one color on the puzzle is used when solving.
Moderate-only two colors on the puzzle are used when solving.
Hard-all colors on the puzzle are used when solving.
The beginner trophy can be unlocked by solving any puzzle regardless of difficulty, but all other trophies need the puzzle to be fully solved with all colors.

Not sure which update this will go in, but I'm working on a new puzzle select screen. It removes the global difficulty setting and instead treats these easy/moderate puzzles as new puzzles. The new menu also lists all secret puzzles, although they still need their codes to be unlocked.

I'm feeling good. My whole launch strategy changed just a day before release so I can't say if it's above or below expectations.
Currently I'm holding off on marketing to video game players and solely marketing to twisty puzzle fans. It's kinda awkward having the game out in only part of the world and I'm working on a few changes to make the game more gamey.

Most of the textures are placeholders but to celebrate that TPS released one week ago, I wanted to share a sneak peak of what's to come.

Back in 8th grade or so my dad got a cube for Christmas and none of us could solve it. However it came with an instruction booklet so one day I wanted to trick everyone and make them think I was a genius so I memorized the instructions and solved the cube in front of my family. I used this as a party trick for a pretty long time before realising everyone else solved the puzzle the same way.
Me neither.
It's not my strong suit.
That's what I'm hoping to tackle with this next update.

When I try solving the puzzle, it's not like I really think about it. I don't think about what moves I'm making, it's more like an instinct thing.

Another progress update. Again this is still in development with non final assets.
This is from Twisty Puzzle Simulator's upcoming campaign. Players work their way up the castle solving increasingly harder puzzles. Progression is set up so that even people without experience with twisty puzzles will gradually learn how to solve them.
But then everything goes back to where it was and you're no closer to solving the second half!
Solve just one element of the second half then do the reverse. e.g. you want to swap two edges so you twist the puzzle until the second half now has them in the correct place but the first half is messed up. Then rotate the second half and do the opposite twists to put everything back the way it was. This swaps two edges and then swaps another two edges while leaving the first half untouched.

This update is getting close to being ready. It's also cool being able to openly share progress like this. Here's what this area looked like 4 days ago.
This update is turning out super cool. The castle is awesome in VR and progressing up and up is sweet.
Awesome stuff.
Except for some content here and there, the campaign is all there.
I just need to juice everything up and then do some QA.

Thank you so much for making Twisty Puzzle Simulator for the PS4, and thank you for not making it PSVR only (I don't own one yet). I've been collecting/twisting puzzles for 25+ years and was hoping someone would make a game like this (for consoles, I stopped PC gaming years ago). I seriously can't stop playing this game, there are a bunch of puzzles that I will probably never be able to solve but I'll keep trying. The 4x4x4 is my all time favorite puzzle to solve, I'm so glad it's in the game ;D.

If you ever add some new puzzles, it would be nice to see some "easier" puzzles for those who find a 3x3x3 a bit daunting and some other well know shapes/sized puzzles (like the Pyramid). I'd like to add that I think easier puzzles would be a great idea. It'd help ease people like me into it, since I barely play these and don't have much experience. I get that you're making scenarios where the puzzle is setup almost complete and stuff like that, but I think simpler puzzles would be even better. Solving those would still feel like you're making progress and solving proper puzzles, rather than completing some sort of tutorial.
Also just more puzzles in general can only be a good thing, right? :P

I'm really glad you enjoy it!
This next update adds a 1x2x2, a 2x3x3 like puzzle without the corner pieces, and a pyramid puzzle. Easing players into solving the harder twisty puzzles is my primary goal at the moment.
I'm encouraging players to share the codes online so go ahead ;D ! Some of the codes are really difficult to get so I wouldn't expect every player to find all of them on their own.
Just as a general hint for some of those puzzles and since I just watched Christopher Robin, "Doing nothing often leads to the very best something."
To decipher the cipher, it helps to notice how both words have the same amount of letters.

The campaign is broken up into sections/levels with ~4 puzzles each. In order to progress on to the next section, the player needs enough stars. This way the player starts with only a handful of puzzles and isn't overwhelmed.

Every puzzle has three different variations based off how the stickers are applied to the puzzle. The harder variations are locked until the easier variations are solved. Variation 3 is the fully stickered puzzle.
Only three stars are needed in this opening area to unlock the gate and progress. The player is free to return to this area at any time to try the harder variations and collect those stars.
Coins are also earned every time a puzzle is solved, giving players a benefit to solving the same puzzle variation multiple times. A limited number of stars can be bought with coins so players can use that as an alternative way to progress on to the next level.
Players without any puzzle experience, twisty or otherwise, should be able to progress past both the first and second levels without too much difficulty. The third level also has some fairly easy variation 1 puzzles but by that point the player needs to also start solving variation 2 puzzles in order to have enough stars to continue.
Also this campaign will be completely optional. Players will still have the ability to free select puzzles like they do in the current game.

I'd also like to note the with the current version of the game the L1 button also = UP, the OPTIONS button = DOWN, the SQUARE button = LEFT, and the TRIANGLE button = RIGHT.
The "CATAMARAN LOCOMOTOR" is found on one of the Mole Cube's eyes. I've tried replacing the C A T N with variations of U D L R and leaving the M as the "middle", but no luck so far. I have some other ways in mind that I'll try out.
I guess the Mole Cube code appears if you stay idle on the Puzzle Selection Screen? I can't seem to get it to show up again after inputting the code and solving the puzzle.
Hope everyone has fun with the new puzzles :) I'm having a blast with them (especially the 4x4x4, 4x4x4 with Super Edges!, Bubble and Dodecahedron).

The mole cube code only shows up if you have solved at least one puzzle but haven't found the mole cube yet. I didn't want it to become repetitive/annoying and show up every single time.

Almost skipped it as the normal 3x3x3 until I scrambled it ;)

I've been racking my brain trying to decipher the "CATAMARAN • LOCOMOTOR" code(s). I've tried by Frequency "242424241 • 142424242 / 242424R41 • LO2O2O2OR" (without/with "Direction" and "O") and still nothing :'(
The only puzzle that worked with the codes I generated so far is for Bubble (UOUOUOUOX)
I'm probably over thinking the solution :-[

Yes you can solve puzzles as many times as you want and earn coins while doing so. Coins are primarily used for buying stars to help with progression, but they can also be used to buy "gimmicky" things that are just for fun.

I was essentially speedrunning the game since I've played the opening section so much (although I still got tripped up a couple times lol).
Normally you'd spend a lot more time with the first few puzzles and use them to figure out some general techniques. For example the very first puzzle teaches/reminds the player to think of all stickers on a piece instead of just focusing on one color. The 1x2x2 throws a curveball on the third solve since it involves a few more twists.
Since this is a twisty puzzle simulator and not a 3x3x3 simulator, I think the tutorials need to taught within gameplay so the player thinks they figured it out for themselves. That way they understand why the technique works and can modify it for future situations. I'll probably need to add more easy starter puzzles though.

I guess I was over thinking the code :-[ I thought it was like the 3 codes on the side to the Mole Cube's orange center, where you need to add OX after deciphering the code(s) (making this code 9 button inputs + OX). So I went back to the codes I generated and got it on the 2nd code ;D Thank you Legend.

No problem. The European release is being held up by age ratings which are outside my control. Originally they were going to be taken care of by November so I could do a simultaneous launch.
This age ratings delay affected all games, not just Twisty Puzzle Simulator, but I didn't have the development budget to bypass the delay and stick to schedule.

Nice! Are you adding new Trophies for the new Campaign? Also, are the Emojis (https://emojipedia.org/emojione/2.2.4/) in the Dodecahedron puzzle a hidden code or just a texture? The :) :( at the end make it look like the O X ending to all of the codes ;)

I can't add any more trophies since I'm already at the max amount. Current trophies do a decent job of showing progress through the campaign though so I think it's fine. Also the next next update will add leaderboards and global statistics. I think I'll do something cool where it has a live leaderboard showing everyone working towards 150 stars.
The emojis are just a texture. The extra sticker colors on the Dodecahedron cannot be modified in the game menu so I wanted to do everything I could to make sure a color blind player could distinguish them.

Yes the trophies are just based off solving specific puzzles so they work for the campaign too.
Those dots will take a long, long, long time to figure out. It's inspired by classic Jonathan Blow puzzles.

The Adventure Update with the campaign will probably be released within the next two weeks.
The European release is still waiting on age ratings.

They are simplified and baked into a single mesh for each puzzle. They also use a simplified lighting model.

Today is National Puzzle Day and the 39th anniversary of the original rubik's cube. This new screenshot teases a couple things that haven't been shown before.
I'm still sorting out my Unity license so I don't have any updates on when the campaign update will release. I'm using the extra time to improve the VR experience and start working on other elements.

In many ways this update is larger than the initial game. It adds so much content and gives the game such a different feel. I am so excited to finally let players try it out.

I'm really glad you like it! And yeah the story is very very very minimal but it's there. I don't think most players will be expecting that sequence either.
The coins are based off of a few factors but in general you earn more coins on harder puzzles, and there is a big bonus if it's your first solve (if you also earn a star). There is also a bonus if you solve the puzzle under a certain amount of seconds but this is really easy to achieve on most puzzles.

This update took longer than expected and pushed back the other versions. Now that it is finished I'm fully focused on launching in Europe and on Steam. Age ratings are still the issue but I've started talking with PEGI directly to get that sorted out.
Hey just a quick heads up. I discovered a game breaking bug that can stop the game from saving. I am putting out a patch right now, but please read this if you are currently playing.
If you started the campaign and did not click "new game," then your data is not being saved. You can double check this by going to Load Game and seeing if your playthrough is listed. If it is not being saved, then unfortunately there is nothing I can do.
This update fixes it so that the main menu cannot be closed without having a proper save file loaded or created. I am sincerely sorry for any lost progress this bug has caused.

Well it will be available on Steam in the UK soon. The PS4 release in Europe will also hopefully be soon but age ratings continue to be the hold up.

Yeah it's crazy awesome getting the word out to more people. It's really fun seeing comments that echo how I would have reacted when I was younger. "Rubik's Puzzle World" was a game I loved as a kid but I always really wanted a game that put more focus on puzzle solving. Stumbling across this trailer as a 14 year old would have blown my mind.

I can really agree with that. This game isn't my magnum opus or a big work of self expression, but it's still very personal and made with lots of love. The Adventure Update cranked everything up to 11 since I really didn't have any restrictions and could just make it up as I went. The cannons are one of my favorite parts since they are so pointless yet so perfect.
I love that VizionEck Cube Royale is a game invented from scratch without any tropes or genre, but man has it been nice marketing a game like this haha. The title alone can sell the game to a lot of people.

I've started work on the Global Update. The server is set up to track all solves so I can show cool stats but I'm not sure how to display them in game. After a puzzle is solved, I'm thinking of showing the global average for solve time and move count. This would be done in a similar fashion to how the game compares the current solve to your previous best.
Then at the bottom of the screen would be the option to press Square for expanded stat info. This would bring up a full leaderboard with the world's top solves and your personal solves.
Is it a single leaderboard, or a leaderboard for each difficulty level (Easy, Moderate, Hard)?
I can easily solve a 3x3x3 on Easy and Hard, but the Moderate one took a lot longer to solve :o (without having a visual clue to line up the bottom layer parts).
I'm now at 45 stars, 3 away for the next area. You set up the puzzles in each section perfectly, gradually getting more difficult as you move along to newer areas.

It did. None of these puzzles have their codes hidden since these are easy puzzles. Instead the codes are somewhat logically related to what the puzzles are and how codes for other puzzles are set up. The dodecahedron code changed to help fit with this.

Makes sense. I took out the Dodecahedron from the code list (https://vizioneck.com/forum/index.php?topic=6887.msg240403#msg240403) and also added Pentultimate L L L L L L L L L O X .

I'm not sure what might be needed to make it follow Sony/steam rules, but the plan is to have all leaderboards up on this website and in game.
I wrote my own server software instead of using anything else so that I can keep all players together and record multiple solves instead of just one per user. That way I can also have Ao5 leaderboards or anything else.
Leaderboard code is finished and is live in the development build. It will take a while to get this update out since everything needs to be triple checked.
I made some magic code so that leaderboards can be displayed in posts. This table auto updates as new scores are set (and for now is showing test data, hence the redacted names).

Ok. :) I think I've cracked the 2x2x2 dots puzzle.
First, the code:
• 2x2x2 Squared D D R U U L D D R U U L O X
To find it, start a 2x2x2 solve (so that the timer's running) and just wait. Every hour, a new input will appear next to the dot. After DDRU appeared, I figured out the rest of the code on my own.

Hey Mike, this game has really caught my interest, and i have a few questions. before that, though, i've been addicted to loking up videos of random cubes. always liked them as a kid, but never the brain power to solve one.
first question, could you upload a bit of gameplay? the trailer shows it, but it'd be nice to see some normal gameplay.
second, have you test out each individual trophy to see phenq https://enfinmince.fr/phenq-avis/ (https://enfinmince.fr/phenq-avis/) it pops properly? i usually go for all trophies on a game, and im a bit fed up recently with lots of bugged trophies in games.

I'd also like to note the with the current version of the game the L1 button also = UP, the OPTIONS button = DOWN, the SQUARE button = LEFT, and the TRIANGLE button = RIGHT.
The "CATAMARAN LOCOMOTOR" is found on one of the Mole Cube's eyes. I've tried replacing the C A T N with variations of U D L R and leaving the M as the "middle", but no luck so far. I have some other ways in mind that I'll try out.
I guess the Mole Cube code appears if you stay idle on the Puzzle Selection Screen? I can't seem to get it to show up again after inputting the code and solving the puzzle.
Hope everyone has fun with the new puzzles :) I'm having a blast with them (especially the 4x4x4, 4x4x4 with Super Edges!, Bubble and Dodecahedron).

A few codes are found by entering the konami code while solving a puzzle. On the bubble puzzle it produces a bunch of spheres just for fun, and on the binary planets puzzle it produces a literal Easter egg.
