Russia declares the Russian half of ISS unsafe for future use, planning on launching new station

For ages the US plan was to decommission the ISS around now while the Russians would take their half and use it as part of a new space station.

Seems the Russian plan has changed since the US extended the ISS's life.


Realistically the space station will be deorbited in around 5 years.

Do you really believe Russians will bring this plan into reality? I don't think it will go too far. Russia tends to overestimate itself, especially in terms of space exploration.

Yeah Russia's announcements about space don't have the best track record haha.

I think they might try to join China's new space station that just launched yesterday. There were already reports of the two of them teaming up for Moon missions, so they might as well "team up" for an LEO station too. That way they only need to supply a couple modules and provide transportation, instead of doing the whole thing themselves. Not sure if China would want them though...
