That's right, it's time!
I am lining this up to my next game.
Soooooo good. Top 5 series for me
Mass Effect 1. A lot more talking than I expected.
The remaster is pretty good, but the UI is kind of clunky.
I'll always be amused by how I got into mass effect. I was randomly on metacritic being all happy about Uncharted 2's reviews when I discovered a random game that also had incredible reviews. Went to my brother and asked if he had heard about it, and he just points to the large Mass Effect 2 poster on the wall.
That night I booted up the game on 360. Ended up being one of my favorite games of all time.

Not many games keep me thinking about them after I play them but this entire series is almost constantly on my mind. Fricking love it. The soundtrack is magnificent

Its amazing. Its still hurts me to this day that my save file for ME3 crashed and got corrupted right at the end. Maybe I had just 2 or 3 hours left. I lost the whole save file. I had to watch the rest of the game on YouTube.. I thought ME3 was far superior to ME2
So I might be 1/3rd of the way through the first game. Based solely on How Long to beat and how many hours I've played so far, but I'm not strictly doing the story, so probably less than that.
The bad:
- the UI is very clunky, and is probably one of the clunkier UIs I've seen in a game. (not sure if the remaster changed the UI from the original)
- some of the controls are a bit clunky. Like running and trying to turn doesn't feel good at all.
Good:
- gameplay is pretty good aside from the running clunkiness.
- the universe is awesome and unlike any game I've played before.
- the way the story unfolds is awesome.
Overall, I'm really looking forward to Mass Effect 2 and 3.
Pi have you ever played mass effect before?

Nope. This is the first time.

Dont believe the hype (or hate) about mass effect 3. Its awesome, enjoy it.

I loved it too. The one bad guy is the only part of the game that really annoyed me.
The bugginess of the game is getting frustrating.
Most of the time, the only issue is that people will do these quick glides to different locations instead of walking.
Kind of like that one Sherlock game where the Watson? just teleports behind you, except it's not quite teleportation.
More major bugs I am seeing:
- game completely crashed out of nowhere.
- gun reticle wouldn't draw.

Have you been saving and fully closing the game?
Not that that would fix every issue, but suspend/resume certainly doesn't help with most bugs.

I usually just suspend/resume.
But after this, I'll restart more frequently.
Mass Effect isn't that bad with regards to this.
But there's been a few times where it's happened. :P

Haha it doesn't get better till Andromeda.
Well I did not like that.
Well I did not like that.
Oops.
I finished the first Mass Effect. Story ended up being way more exciting in the second half.
Talk about the bad first:
1.) Minor issue, but I feel the game has way too many stats. 6 characters have 6 weapons+armor that have 3 stats each, with upgrades for most of the weapons and armor. It's worse than it sounds due to having to pick stuff out of a list. You also have levels for each character, though it seems that can be done automatically. It's a lot to stay on top of, especially for a shorter game.
2.) Getting around is a bit clunky. The UI is kind of clunky and isn't always consistent.
3.) The remaster is pretty buggy.
The story and the worlds are awesome. The gameplay is really good too. 2007 would have made for a tough Goty choice.
Started Mass Effect 2. I'm a little bit worried. I really liked the mechanic that you didn't have to worry about ammo in the first game. But I know ME2 is a great game. So looking forward to this.

Im pretty sure they did updates to the gameplay in ME1. Not sure to what extent. I bought the Trilogy in PS3 and found the first one unplayable. I do wish I stuck it out though

Mass Effect 2 fixes a lot of my issues with the first game.
Another issue I had with the first game I forgot to mention. Melee is awkwardly bad. It's a small motion that does pack a lot of power, but it's awkward when it takes like 5 seconds to hit again.
Still I'm not a fan of the new powers.
It was absolutely awesome to see some characters from the first game. I was feeling a bit down about the cast until I saw
The UI is a good improvement in this game. It's nice that the map and indicator is easier to get around without being too hand holdy.
Still the overall UX could be better. There are like 3 different buttons to exit a menu, depending on which menu you are in. The galaxy map is square, the menu is circle to exit and there are some other menus that are X to exit. Why?
Did the opening scene still hold up? I loved the sound effects as the ship lost its air.

The opening scene was great.
Stepping out is one of the coolest moments:

Ooof, this mission.
Ooof, this mission.
Which one? Getting close to the end?
Which one? Getting close to the end?
Yeah. Will definitely finish this tomorrow.
I went back to my previous save file, because I let someone die.
But, now I'm about halfway done with the last mission and it's going well.

A lot of people tend to die near the end. Or at least that happened to me haha.
2 is done. Good way to start the day.
No casualties.
So I'll say it:
Mass Effect is my favorite trilogy of the PS3 era. Definitely tops Uncharted for me:
Mass Effect 1 is better than Uncharted 1.
But Uncharted 2 is better than ME2 (But it's darn close).
Mass Effect 3 is better than Uncharted 3.

Nice.
Who was your favorite character? What did your shepard look like? I made a really funky dude.

Well... I am not actually that far through Mass Effect 3, maybe a third of the way. I was talking to Xev, and I've been thinking that I'm enjoying this a lot more than I enjoyed Uncharted 3 the first time. Even if it goes downhill from here, the first third has been great to play.
Tali and Garrus have been my favorites.
Im playing with Jane Shepherd, didn't go crazy with customizations.
Mass Effect 3 is a good step up in terms of third person shooter mechanics.
It's a bizarre step down in terms of UX. A lot of the lessons from Mass Effect 1 to 2 are lost. The quest "log" doesn't seem to tell you anything.
I started the first Mass Effect. It's very strange playing it and learning so much. I pretty much avoided all spoilers that weren't in 2, 3, or Andromeda.
Great sci fi so far that seems to be downgraded in later games.

You never played the first game?
It's kind of weird to me.
It feels like Mass Effect 1 is more of a straight sci-fi game. You get futuristic guns that recharge.
Mass Effect 2 though introduces Powers, which they argue is tech, but it kind of feels more like magic. Makes the latter games feel more like sci fantasy.
You never played the first game?
Nope. Started with 2.
With Uncharted I also started with 2, but I bought the first game a few years yater. No idea why but the first mass effect always felt like something I could ignore.
Well that was just infuriating.
Well that was just infuriating.
I remember doing that too. Was pretty frustrating.
I'm hopeful that one day we'll look back at modern dialogue choices in the same way we look back at Dragon Lair's quick time events. It's esoteric game design, just hoping your understanding of the consequences aligned with the dev's understanding of the consequences.

It's kind of cool that these choices can have such an impact in the game.
But it's also very frustrating.
kill them all.
I also kind of think choices work best when they are choices a player would make.
My dumbest complaint about ME3:
When you make choices in the game you regularly get people for your army.
My problem is the numbers. We have a massive galactic scale war, with planets that we know have billions of people. Yet some of the alien species are offering like 100 people or less.
Its a silly problem. I don't see a reason why they couldn't just multiply by 1,000 and call it a day.
Well that was just infuriating.
A week later and I get to try it again.
Seems I must have missed something/messed something up in ME2, so my choices didn't matter.
It is done.
Mixed feelings.
Whatever. One can say I have boring taste in endings.

Overall, would still agree with this quality wise. Mostly because I didn't love Uncharted 3 I guess.
But I think I find Uncharted to be a more satisfying experience.
I finished Mass Effect 1. For some reason I expected it to be more unique like a raw first draft, but instead it slots into the trilogy just fine.
Didn't romance anyone in the game and overall it felt like there weren't any real choices.
Reminded me how much I liked Mass Effect Andromeda. It's a real shame that game launched in such a poor state because it was dope at times. Had a much improved car.
Andromeda is so underrated. It's missing some of the charm and amazing story of the trilogy but it's a really great game still
I wouldnt call andromeda great. But its a good game. I enjoyed it. The gameplay in andromeda is easily the best of the series however
