I absolutely hate how they're doing random unlocks. That's the worst of the worst way to handle what microtransaction rewards you get.
random unlocks can be fine for in game but i hate it for microtransactions.

Gears 4 looks dissapointing in terms of visuals, hopefully gameplay makes it great.

The new gears 4 trailer has really grown on me. I still think the animations and designs are fudged up, but for a person that cares about these characters it wouldn't matter.

Also the video has passed 5 million views. I think this game will easily outsell Halo 5 if the reviews are OK.
And to be honest, I think the only reason Gears 4 will surpass Halo 5 will be a combination of desperation for an exclusive title with Gears being a familiar face and the fact that Halo is older and thus hit its peak earlier.

Big thing imo is that the last mainline Gears was good. Even if the new devs screw it up like 343 did with Halo 4, it's going to have so much momentum leading into launch.

I don't know about that. A lot of people weren't happy with Judgement. Just because Gears 3 was great doesn't mean people forget the most recent offering was way below par for them. A buddy of mine used to be a huge Gears fan. After Gears 3 he was done with the series. He didn't even bother touching Judgement and he thinks Gears 4 looks like shame. In fact, none of my friends who held the series in any regards give a rats dog about Gears 4 right now. The Gears fanbase isn't what it used to be, it was never nearly as big as Halo, and the hype surrounding this game has a lot more to do with hardcore Xbox fans scrambling to find some big game to champion on a console that is approaching a downward slope. You've seen the game as it is right now. You know it looks like shame. It can only be denied for so long.

Most people think Judgement wasn't developed by Epic so they just kinda ignore it.

Had no idea Gears 3 damaged the series though. That was the game that caused me to jump on board.

I fully agree that it's casual gears fans hyping this the most, but at least unlike Halo 5 they don't have the hardcore fans hating on it.

It wasn't so much that Gears 3 did anything wrong. The way my friend described it, he said he felt like it just ran its course. Some things feel timeless and others just feel like they're meant to end. To him, the multiplayer stopped being satisfying. It was one of those experiences where it was great when it was new because it felt like something different. Over time it just didn't have enough hooks to keep him going. There are also a lot of Gears fans, like him, who preferred the old 4-man setup of the original Gears and disliked what the series did from Gears 2 onwards.

The fudge!
It will decline from the old games and Halo 5 should be able to reach 6m+ so I'd say no chance

Halo 5 did worse than Gears 3.

Halo 5, according to what we have for NPD
(October 27th release day)
October = 935k
Next Month = ~358k
Total  = ~1.3 million

Gears of War 3
(September 20th release day)
September = 2.0 million.

In just 10 days, GeoW3 sold more than Halo 5 did in 30.

How are Halo 5's legs? As Pi shows it had a poor start. I'd say it ends ~4 million.

Gears has always done 6m+, plus if Gears4 is good the sales might not even decrease. XBO owners are thirsty for a big exclusive.

Yeah, and Halo 3/reach/4 did way more than Gears 3.
Gears 3 was on 360 and so were Halo 3-4. Halo 5 and Gears 4 are on XB1. Gears 4 has new devs too which is usually not a good sign for sales.

Halo 3 - Xbox 360 (Microsoft) - 3.3 million
It did that in 8 days.

Halo 4 (360) - 3.2 million
This was like 24 days.

Halo Reach (360) - 3.3 million
This was about 16 days.

I am not really sure that the platform matters that much.
The people that are generally the more enthusiastic will certainly have an Xbox One.

New dev could mean disaster, I do agree.

How do you explain the Halo 5 drop then? Going from 3m+ in a month to a bit over 1m is huge. Plus, Halo didn't do as well on XB as it did on 360.
I don't expect Gears to drop as much but it will drop quite a bit.

On the XB, it was basically a new IP.

I blame it on Halo 4 being fairly divisive, and MCC having early troubles.

Gears 3 was a bit divisive and Judgment was average
