Yeah the fast SSD enables a lot of really cool things

Fun fact about Jak II, there were special rooms, where they would hide load times behind.

the-pi-guy

And cutscenes were all real time, so that was pretty cool for back then.

the-pi-guy

This past week, I found Half Life does the same thing with the rooms.

Legend

What do you mean with rooms? Just unnecessary rooms to slow players down?

the-pi-guy

Somewhat.
Basically you'd enter a room with vault doors on both sides.  The game would close the previous door, and open the next one with probably 20 seconds of waiting.

It felt like a reasonable part of the world, but really, the main purpose was to hide loading screens.

Legend

Yeah I discovered something like that recently in Control.

Legend

Doors would be locked while the stuff behind them loaded in

It's not related, but real time cutscenes are kind of cool.

You could crash one of the hover cars in the game right where a cutscene would happen, and you could have a burning hover car in the background, while the characters are just carrying on with stuff.

It's cool that Sony isn't forcing proprietary ssds

He's prepping us for the TF number.

Sony really misjudged the mood with this I think.
He's prepping us for the TF number.

We already know the specs Eurogamer released them on the hour. 10.28Tflops

Legend

Yeah I don't think gamers were wanting a talk like this.
