I know, I know.
We've tried this
1 2 3 etc
a lot of times!
But, you know what they say etc+1 is the best!
-Would you like to make something?
-And what would you like to make?
Yes we should make something.
I have no idea. Something small and quick and that we can maybe put out for a cheap price.
Time to get shame done and make that MONEY!
Sure why not I can be totally useful 8)
Should we do something VR?
There should be in a thread somewhere the ideas we were playing around with before. One of those may work. i'll try and find it
https://vizioneck.com/forum/index.php?board=22 (https://vizioneck.com/forum/index.php?board=22)
This is shameful. lmao
oh how different i felt about getting into the industry. Some of those posts i made in some of those threads i was so hopeful about the industry. I'm way past that shame now.
Is it actually happening!?
How about we start with a game jam? Give everyone a weekend to whip together a super simple game and get the juices flowing. Then use that as a jumping off point for a collaborative game that's of a similar scope but more polished.
I think we're all fairly busy with life at the moment so starting with a nice casual game that only takes a few hours a week and can be finished in a month seems like a good idea.
Is it actually happening!?
Probably not, but we have to try.

well it won't with that attitude! 8)

Game jam themes. If we want to go this route, vote for one above.
A couple things I'd like to try doing differently if we work as a team:
-Have check ins. Every person who is working on the game, has to check in every couple days. Whether that's "I worked on this" or "I am not able to work today". Just because it's really easy to go a few days without doing anything, and those few days, can easily turn into a few weeks.
-Have task laid out.
Game jam thing sounds cool although I have no idea what I'd be doing so wouldn't really work for me ;D
Shouldn't a certain someone be releasing a game soon? ::)

Hey give Nnodley a break, he's trying to his best!

lmao! Gonna be a while for mine.
Not letting this die!

Exactly. If we all don't consistently report in then it'd either die off or become a one person project.
What do people want to make?
I think we need something that's "too" easy.
Better yet, something easy but also something that can have a lot of depth added to it.
I'd kind of like to make a farming game.
This is going to happen.
Are we just gonna make a private thread here or do we want to go one step further and make a slack for everyone to post in?
I'd kind of like to make a farming game.
I really like the farming game idea, because you can take things step by step. Can have a lot of small victories.
Like you can start with a home life, and you'd have a lot of little victories with:
-making a new plant
-making a new building
-making a new animal
And then if you really wanted to, you could call it done.
Otherwise you could keep going and add stuff like:
-NPCs
--dialogue
--AI
-a town or a few
--buildings
--roads
-caves
Would anyone be interested in working together on it?
I'm down for helping with anything. You and nnodley agree on something and I'll be there to assist.
I still think a game jam sounds cool though haha.
This is going to happen.

Probably should keep it here to make it as simple as possible to stay involved.

what i figured, just wanted to throw it out there if anybody had wanted to do that.

Yep. Totally in!!!
I like the farming idea as well. Let's do it.
We should start putting together some sort of game dev doc. Like make it a google doc that everyone has access to and keep filling out.
Will need to figure out style, camera view(figure we will go isometric?), and some sort of timeline for a "release".

What would you think of making it for VR?
What would you think of making it for VR?
I mean no reason not to. Especially with quest being so popular. We would just have to get accepted to release on there though. But we can develop for PC based VR though.
I've been meaning to apply for quest anyway. I could send that in.
On pc, you need to support steam vr and oculus even though steam supports oculus. I did steam only for Twisty Puzzle Simulator since I wasn't supporting quest.
Also do we want to use Unity?

I'd rather not, but if majority rules unity, then i guess i can go with it.
I absolutely hate unity. I feel like it's GARBAGE!
Nnodley likes unreal, pretty sure.
I don't have enough experience either way.
I can't express my hate for unity enough. lol
Unreal it is!
@Legend Do you have a specific template you use for a game dev doc or did you just go and create your own overtime?
And here I was going to ask Nnodley.
;D
I'm sure the ones I've tried making probably aren't good.
These were the sections in VizionEck's original GDD.

For a smaller game like this, we could break it down into
The "Game"
•Visuals
•Sound
•Controls
...features unique to our farming game
Standard Systems
•Saved games
•Translations
•Accessibility (colorblind, customized controls)
•Main Menu/Options Menu
•Quality Settings and Performance Targets
Business
•Platforms
•Price
•Profit Share
•DLC
•Marketing

Was telling Pi I usually find farming games boring but I guess I can help. Might be good to have an opinion of someone who's more critical of these games when making it. Best part of stardew valley for me was the relationship stuff and general villager stories + the mine. I guess if the regular daily tasks felt more satisfying I might enjoy it more, but my problem is that the days just keep rolling buy with nothing really to differentiate them once you've played for a while.
Wonder if some animal crossing features could work in a more farming focused game. I loved Animal Crossing when I played it on Wii and put quite a bit of time into it.
And here I was going to ask Nnodley.
;D
I'm sure the ones I've tried making probably aren't good.
haha well I've neglected making a full one for any of my stuff. Starting to go through creating them now and found a couple free templates, but I haven't gone through them enough yet. Probably why my game(s) are going slower than I had hoped. But better late than never to make one I guess.

Even for me personally.
I really like farming games, but I usually lose out on my interest...
If we could get far enough with the game, I would want to try figuring out how to make it better for longer.

As I said before. The thing I really like about the farming idea is it'd be easy to make something, and then there is so much possibility of adding stuff to the experience.

Yeah i'm sure this type of opinion will come in handy. I think there's plenty of potential to make a meaningful farming type game.

Can't say making game docs have helped me any. ;)
Although I manage to keep a lot of stuff in my head...

Yep, it's easy enough to get as good of a base as we can and then work from there.

Yeah I have and remember most everything I've came up with in my head. Plus for my game(s) they are kinda "basic" enough that I don't think it's something totally necessary.
For this game though it will give us something to look to and try to accomplish.
I don't care about farming games either lol. I mostly just want experience working on a game with a group though so anything goes. Animal Crossing style could be great. Less "Farming Simulator" the better.
Since Pi had the farming idea, what were you thinking?

I haven't actually played Animal Crossing. :P
I'd still like the farming aspect. Honestly the Animal Crossing idea doesn't really go against the farming style. But it seems like it'd more about adding depth to the non-farming aspects I guess.
Have you played Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley?
There's also Rune Factory that is HM but adds an RPG with monsters.

I've only played Animal Crossing and Minecraft.
I don't mean that it should play like Animal Crossing, just that it shouldn't have a "John Deere" feel imo.
yeah and for the love of god it can not be anything like farmville or any other facebook farming games. haha
Does someone want to create a thread for the game? Get the ball rolling at least.

No those games are terrible.
