I think I'm going to keep trying with it. I "spoiled" myself by watching the trailers and while those didn't excite me, almost all the steam reviews say exactly what I want to hear. Plus your posts have been pretty glowing too.

I modded the game to slow battery drain. I only just reached the elevator at the dam, but the quick battery drain felt like a massive gimmick/red flag.
Yes the torch battery life is horrendous but you don't really need it on for long periods. I just do a quick flash in dark areas and I don't need to change batteries that often.
I hope it gets better for you, keep me updated on your thoughts.

I took a long pause but I played it again this morning. It's at least interesting now with proper diverging paths.

What was the intended way to get to the control room in the flooded dam? I could shut off the electricity in the water but then the door wouldn't open. So instead I stacked boxes and jumped up.

If its the area I think, you are supposed to jump along the machinery in the middle of the flooded area and use the boxes to help jump along area that are to far to jump.

Jumping felt pretty nonresponsive so I didn't even want to try that lol

It feels more amazing that you were able to do it that way.

I'm really glad the boxes don't react to the player's weight.

I actually did it a different way before realising the proper way. I dropped onto the control panels on the left and bypassed 2 thirds of the room and didi a few running jumps for the big gaps

Completed Quern last week. A very solid puzzle walking sim game. Legend, how did you finish it in under 11 hours? You're a beast at these type of games.

Which ending did you go with?

I went with the good ending, sharing the technology.

I did the bad ending first and then the good. If I could only do one I would of chose the good but knew that I could do both so didn't think about it. What I like about the story is that if you pay a little bit of attention, it's obvious what to choose. A lot of multiple ending stories if a 50/50 shot if you are making the right choices. How did you find the puzzles? For me the concept of the puzzles were nothing new but very well done.

A lot people online seem to think the other ending was the good ending. They blindly trusted the floating orb. I did both too just to see what happened.

I liked a fair amount of the puzzles but I also disliked a fair amount. Maybe I was rushing but many puzzles were slow and annoying to experiment. If it takes a few minutes to validate a puzzle solution it's pretty lame. Like the underwater area was all kinda slow even if the ideas were cool.

Also with its inventory it sometimes felt more like an adventure game than a Myst style game, which I didn't like. Made things feel too artificial and restricted. Like for example how most of your inventory disappears once you go underground, so you know everything remaining must have a use.

I enjoyed the self contained puzzles and some of the others like the "Indiana Jones sand weight" one. Gave it a 5/10 in my notes. Had a major performance issue every time it autosaved.

Wait a minute, I just realised the ending you chose as good. Nah, trusting the orb was the good ending. The guy clearly went crazy and also ruined all the ancient buildings for power. Sharing the tech would of destroyed everybody and everything... maybe what is good and what is the bad ending isn't as black and white as I thought.

I enjoyed the underwater section, I didn't spend too much time on it. I found the second half of the game easier and I'm not sure iif the puzzles got easier or I just had a better understanding of the puzzles in Quern. Kind of like when you do cryptic crosswords from different magazines/newspapers, they have their own style and takes a few solutions to get into their mindset

I didn't feel like there was much experimenting like you say either except for one occasion when I was like "nah, I ain't doing that". That was the different effects of the berries. It felt like it wanted me to find where I needed to use the berries and find out which one I should use at the same time. I confess, I used a guide for that part.

I didn't mind the the puzzles being in a linear fashion but I do agree that you should of kept the items you collected instead of just leaving only the items you need.

I also like the way you could take not but didn't really find a need to use it that much other than to take a load of notes to get the achievement lol.

I used a hint for the berries too! Here's my post right after I finished it: Battle of the Backlog

For the ending the devs definitely wanted you to like the orb, but she was way too pompous. Her actions lead to the destruction of her people yet she shows no humility or personal responsibility. I think it would have been much more effective if she had doubts herself near the end and was more resigned, letting the player "independently" agree with her.

You really didn't like it lol. I don't think I solved a puzzle by randomly trying all the objects. I mean I tried a few times when I was stuck but failed before finding an object I didn't pick up from a previous puzzle lol. Even the berries that I cheated on, I discovered later that if you try all the berries in the room you juice them, there's a clue of which berry you need and for what. I think the biggest stretch for what object to use was the magnet for the hook which I figured out quite quickly but on another day I might of spent a while on it.

I think I might of enjoyed it more than Obduction  :o

I think I worded that poorly and let a bit too much of my frustration seep through. I never brute forced puzzles (except the one after the diving suit where you seemingly need to brute force the 5th number). Instead it felt like there was poor "cause and effect" in the game. Like for example this from the game:

There's no hint that leads you here. You know it probably has something to do with blue light but it's just exhausting all possibilities until you try putting the blue spotlight on this specific object. Some players will get lucky and discover this pretty quickly, but in my case I only shined the spotlight at different areas.

Crazy that you liked it more than Obduction!
