Do you like modern art?

Just so so so much modern art isn't that great imo. I feel like it tends to lack in expression and lack in skill, so the core concept is a million times more important. Too often the concept isn't powerfull enough.

Modern art is art made up till the 1970's. 

The art being made right now is contemporary.
 
I think art is too broad to say if someone likes it or not.  There's a lot of variety in any era. 

I think the issue is that the art is less distinctive, not that it takes less skill.

I prefer distinctive over not.

Yeah there is the modern art period but I didn't want to sound too technical with my op. Went with the generic "modern art" classification since that's how the general person views this whole range of work.


I made this thread after viewing the MET's modern and contemporary art section.



My favorite painting there was Salvador Dali's Corpus Hypercubus. It's a painting I've thought about a lot in the past and in a weird sense it was underwhelming in person. Part of that was definitely the glass cover, but still. Meanwhile I think I like Broadway Boogie Woogie better.



Yet white on white and most other works just don't impact me.
