I should try to find the tweet where Jeff Grubb essentially called someone too stupid to grasp MS' strategy, when they said MS wouldn't just drop the cash cow that is Gold, lol.

Terrible deal.

Things that didn't age well.

That whole saga last year was hilarious. Jeff Grubb really outed himself as an idiot who wishes he worked for Microsoft PR as their spin specialist. I'm glad we're past all that now.

In some ways he was right though, XBL Gold is going away because who the fudge will pay this when game pass ultimate is only $5 a month more. I guess that's the intention of the move.

I feel really bad for the people who just want to play fortnite and similar f2p games, xbox is not the place for them.

Hmm, respect given where its due. Maybe he saw the error in his ways:

yeah, this really does feel like a way to force people into gamepass.

really this is very pro-consumer of MS.  gamepass is the best value in gaming and anyone who doesn't buy it is literally wasting their money..

What is Grub doing in Highlands Ranch?

Anyway, this kinda shows how much of a gamble gamepass is. They can bump up the price whenever they want and there is nothing players can do about it.

it's the same for netflix and disney + and all that.

the only thing that makes gamepass worse is you can quickly estimate the numbers and realize that MS isn't going to make enough money to justify putting all of 1st party on gamepass day-1 when they have something like 5000 developers in employment now.   I made a spread sheet just for myself a while back and i'd estimate they'll need at least 90 million subscribers to make it "even" to the revenues direct sales was producing and that's ignoring revenue generated by gold.  if you included that i think my estimate jumped up to 130 million.

i think it is obvious gamepass prices are going to go up to make up for the fact 100+ million subscribers just ain't going to happen.

Game pass is a gamble and they're going all-in. Just like every other sub service, if it ever makes money it'll be in 10 years time.

Unlike Disney and Netflix though, I have a $500 brick if I stop paying for gamepass.
He lives in Colorado.
Oh well that's good to know.

*Buys XSX for Netflix*
*Cancels Netflix*
I guess this is worthless now.  *Throws XSX away*

They have you by the balls.

This is why you don't buy xbox consoles any more. If you want game pass then PC is the way.

Holy fudge
well that settles that.   i'm going to be quite mad if sony follows suit.   i'll take sony's $70 pricing model on games over this.  i can hold out easy enough for a game to drop it's price.  i can't do that so easily for subs.
