sucks but i kind of respect the move.  as DerNebel said this is probably at least somewhat an excuse on sony's part to delay things to a time period in which they can better capture headline or perhaps "finish" their presentation.  all the same,.. i really like the public support they are giving blackLivesMatter so I'll choose to see this at face value.

Fkn shambles this year. And what America is becoming is scary
Honestly America has always been a great and horrible nation. We've had similar moments stretching back decades. The current protests make me more hopeful for our future if anything.

Yeah if they hadn't come out with possibly the strongest support of BLM of any company I'd seen then I might question their motive, however its clear the people at Sony do care about this. Sure its a good business move, but I believe they did genuinely do it for support of the BLM movement. They were advertising this on TV and look at the numbers their tweets are pulling on social media. This event will dominate the news whenever it occurs, I don't think Sony are scared about that.

It sucks that its delayed but we can wait, we have to wait half a year for launch anyway. As Sony said, there's other more important voices that need as much space as they can have right now. A big movement could be starting again here, one that is sorely needed.

What does this do to help BLM? Genuinely.

I'm not going to deny that many people at Sony seriously care and support the BLM movement and that's good, but as a sign of support delaying this event is a hollow gesture. The PS5 event wouldn't have suddenly made people forget the protests.

I'm gonna come across like an insensitive bumb right now, but I don't respect this move one bit. It's calculated because they fear they won't get enough attention for their event with the things happening right now, nothing more.
Has nothing to do with not getting enough attention.
They are trying to avoid negative attention.  People were calling for them to delay it.

It keeps the attention on them.  Every little bit helps

Especially when this is the most attention BLM has probably ever gotten.

Bolded: Same difference really. Not getting enough attention or fearing negative attention. Point is that with this move in my opinion the main motivation is to avoid having the stream under circumstances that would lead to them not getting the kind of attention they would like.

Underlined: Like I said I really don't think that there's any real attention that the PS5 games event would take away from the protests.

Oh and maybe to be clear about this, I support BLM and if Sony supports it as well, then that is great. And I saw that they did donate money to the cause so that is commendable. I just struggle to applaud them for moving their marketing event, which clearly benefits them more than it does BLM.

i think the point is in america republicans have been able to maintain their unpopular stances by exploiting america's short attention span.   it's not like this is the first time a black man was unjustly murdered by police.  it's not like there won't be another mass shooting in a school.  but the republican response is always the same,.. say silent for a week and then create a distraction.

no amount of money donated will change the laws that keep police unaccountable for committing murder or keep assault weapons out of schools.   for that we need the laws to change and for that we need we need the house and the senate and the presidency to both see and fear the will of the people.  right now what we need non-ending display of support for BLM and the goals this movement is trying to achieve and to keep this as the top story for as long as possible until republicans are more afraid to oppose changes then to the are to advocate for them.

to that end,.. sony's conference is inappropriate at this time.

I hope this is like an E3 show and has tons of energy and the gravitas of being our first true look at PS5. Some corny marketing would also be fun.
