US gov is working to ban it because it has too much power over kids. Tiktok then used all that power to have kids call congress and try and stop this, which of course made things worse.

can we just cut off all social media? Social media in and of itself has been the absolute worst thing to happen to humanity, imo.  Next up is going to be AI

The level of influence is so horrible. We absolutely need some sort of rules/public approach to how algorithms for promoting content are designed. Most of these companies aren't purposefully doing something bad, but the results are obviously bad.

AI moderation has a lot of potential to help but most of these companies are making insane AIs that would only make things worse. Like take youtube since that's the one I use a lot. It has serious problems with creators hyperoptimizing to whatever the algorithm likes at that moment. A human review of every video would stop those gross things like pregnant Elsa from being promoted to millions of kids, and a proper AI could make a "human" review of every video possible, but the ways these companies lobotomize AIs after training would just make this worse.
