Absolutely insane that TLOU2 became #4 in just two weeks of sales. FF7 Remake is also very impressive. Top 2 are excpected, but HZD being next ahead of anything like U4 is pretty amazing.

Just goes to show how big Miles Morales is gonna be as a launch game, then full on Spidey 2 will be a huge system seller. Horizon 2 coming out early is huge as well and God of War 2 will be massive. Just some of the reasons Sony seem to be confident in PS5 becoming the fastest selling console ever.

Xevross

Sounds like TLOU2's reign as the biggest SIE western PS4 release in Japan was very short.

In fact it seems Ghost of Tsushima could become the biggest SIE launch of the gen, beating Death Stranding's 185k launch.

Legend

Bet: ghost of tsushima > infamous second son + infamous 2 + infamous lifetime sales

Legend

180k physical debut for TLOU2 in Japan. Comparative SIE PS4 launches in Japan:

 Knack - 322.083
 Death Stranding - 185.909
 Bloodborne - 150.245
 Gran Turismo Sport - 139.357
 Marvel's Spider-Man - 132.520
 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - 124.028
 Days Gone - 114.319
 Horizon: Zero Dawn - 109.739
 Everybody's Golf - 100.902

So this smokes every western release of the gen, next biggest is Spidey with 132k.
212k ghost of tsushima!

I literally came over to post.

Absolutely outstanding launch for Ghost in Japan, brilliant to see. Its sold out everywhere too, could have been more.

kitler53

great to hear.  i love sucker punch and would love to see them elevate themselves like GG did this gen.  This is a great start.

68% drop second week for Ghost of Tushima in the UK puts physical at 99k total. That's a worse drop than Days Gone (60%) which was at 98k after two weeks. I think Ghost is less strong in the UK for sure, we don't have a romance with Samuri like the US does. But also stock is still limited so its hard to say how legs are looking.

Haven't really given an update on the Japan situation in a while but this is what it looks like for Switch hardware:

Its having an insane record breaking year. Animal Crossing is also going ridiculously well:

All of the games in that chart are absolute juggernauts for sales. AC NH is just on a whole other level. Its well on its way to becoming the best selling game of all time in Japan.

Some analysis on mine from Era of a GSD video released

PAL Charts - Week 30, 2020 | ResetEra

Quote
You can say for certain that in week 12-22 2019 the breakdown of HW units was:

 Switch 55%
 PS4 37%
 XB1 8%

And the same time in 2020 the breakdown was:

 Switch 61%
 PS4 32%
 XB1 6%

They also have a slide showing exaclty the units sold per week. I counted total sales over the 11 weeks to be about 1.2M in 2020 and about 0.65M in 2019. This leads to total HW sales in weeks 12-22 2019 for each console:

 Switch 360k
 PS4 210k
 XB1 50k

 And in 2020:

 Switch 730k
 PS4 380k
 XB1 70k

Its only an 11 week snippet but its a fascinating insight into HW sales in Western Europe in the last couple of years. The countries included in this are: UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

Just as an FYI I make out total HW sales for weeks 1-11 as 830k for 2019 and 750k for 2020. Total week 1-22 HW sales for 2019 were about 1.48M, for 2020 they were about 1.95M.

An interesting little factoid I worked out in an Era discussion.

In gen 7, the US made up about 31% of PS3's hardware sales. In gen 8, the US made up about 30% of PS4's hardware sales (so far).

In gen 7, the US made up about 51% of 360's hardware sales. In gen 8, the US made up about 60% of XB1's hardware sales (so far).

That's an amazing disparity and also remarkable consistency from Playstation. Just goes to show the strength of the PS brand worldwide, and why xbox struggles in comparison.

And yes, if you're wondering, about 30% of PS2's sales also came from the US. The original xbox also had about 60% of sales in the US.
