I mean covid isn't much of an issue now in much of Europe. It's mostly 3rd world countries and the US (or including the US?  ::) ) that are having a lot of trouble
Bit harsh, the US is a wonderful 2nd world country.

Well by definition 2nd world countries were aligned with the Soviet Union/Russia...

Maybe you're on to something.

TLOU2 legs are pretty bad compared to other top Sony launches this gen. It could just be that physical supply is still bad but it looks fairly well in stock to me. It dropped to #3 in UK charts this week behind F1 and AC.

There is still a lockdown happening. While a lot of these shops are open, a lot of people are scared to buy or don't want to go to buy at shops

That isn't an explanation as to why legs are poor as that would also apply to first week sales. In fact, lockdown has eased a lot in the recent weeks so if anything this effect should be a positive contribution to legs.

I'm guessing backlash is playing some kind of part, plus people who really wanted the game probably got it the first week.

Xbox fanboys thinking this will only sell 5 million.  ROFL.

We got 3.6 m just from being the most hyped up title. Multiply by 65% for being during a pandemic.  Multiply by extra PS4 sales since Spiderman. So like 35% probably.

3.6*1.65*1.35 = 8.09 million easy.

Spoiler for Hidden:

Ghost of Tsushima 75k physical debut in the UK. Very good for a new IP, that beats Days Gone (70k) and SP's last game which was an established IP with Infamous SS (69k). I'll be very interested to see the legs on this one, I expect they'll be good since WOM is great.

Select Sony physical debuts in the UK:

Some other recent multiplat games:

  • RE2 Remake : 70k
  • MH World : 55k
  • The Division 2 : 55k
  • Anthem : 45k
  • MK11 : 40k

So yeah, great debut.

Paper Mario sold about 1/4 of Ghost, so roughly 19k first week. That makes it the new fastest selling Paper Mario game.

PS4 is really ending the gen strong. How well did gow:a do at launch? Seems like 2020 is turning out even better than 2013.

Let's see. Ascension apparently became the 2nd best debut of the franchise but with less than half of the sales of GOW3, then GOW (2018) set the new record with +35% over GOW3. So that makes the GOW Ascension debut <36k, roughly 35k then.

I don't think God of War was huge in the UK before 2018, as evidenced by the opening of GOW in the UK being half of Spidey and Uncharted 4 despite having a bigger WW launch than those two. The game had fantastic legs though and the franchise is now huge in the UK for sure. Next game's opening will be in the big leagues although we'd need digital numbers to know for next gen as physical sales are going to severly drop off.

The PS3's 2013 was just straight up unnecessary in how many games Sony released for it. Several of those games would likely have benefitted from moving to the PS4, most notably GT6. I'm glad Sony decided to move some projects towards next gen this time instead of trying to send them out to die on PS4 (e.g. Sackboy's Adventure). If that Sly Cooper game had been a PS4 launch title instead of releasing to little fanfare in early 2013 for instance, I imagine it would have done better and gotten another game.
