"It's Destiny, without all the battleship." - Destiny 2 review-in-progress - Polygon (https://www.polygon.com/2017/9/5/16230016/destiny-2-review)

"Destiny 2 is better than D1, which I loved, and so I love Destiny 2 even more; I absolutely cannot wait to get back to playing it. I don't actually care about any of the things I've complained about. I'm going to put hundreds of hours into this stupid game, shooting things and watching my numbers go up." - This isn't a Destiny 2 review, but it's as close as you're going to get from us for a week | VG247 (https://www.vg247.com/2017/09/05/this-isnt-a-destiny-2-review-but-its-as-close-as-youre-going-to-get-from-us-for-a-week/)

"One thing that's not really debatable is the level of quality found throughout the game, first in terms of presentation aspects like visuals, art-design, sound quality and soundtrack. Destiny 2 absolutely shines here. Each world feels unique, with hidden pockets of cave systems and unique art. Sound always feels pitch perfect for the situation whether on an exploration or tense firefight." - Destiny 2 Review | AOTF (https://aotf.com/reviews/destiny-2-review/)

"I played 20 hours of Destiny 2 and it's everything fans have been asking for" - Destiny 2 is everything fans have been asking for - The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/5/16253052/destiny-2-launch-gameplay-preview-impressions)

"Destiny 2 is bigger, better, and more beautiful than ever. I could have spent a paragraph talking about the skies alone. Endless side quests and activities, a thrilling campaign and slick PvP are only the beginning of what's on offer." - Destiny 2 review in progress | GamesRadar+ (http://www.gamesradar.com/destiny-2-review/)

Every time I think I've decided to go ahead and give Destiny 2 a shot (after all, I did put tons of hours into the vanilla game, 0 into any of the DLC, end game was trash) I see something that makes me nope the fudge out of that decision. This last time it was the news that there are microtransaction boosts you can buy. I know you can earn them in game, but this means they're tinkering with these abilities in vanilla gameplay to entice you to buy the boosts. That's how boosts work. Otherwise no one would buy them. Plus it's Activision, there will be many worse DLC moves to come.

I eventually caved and bought the Destiny Collection when it was on sale for like $20 and ended up playing like 20 minutes of it, too much had changed lol. I think this time I'll wait a year and maybe just buy the whole thing fresh for $20 or less.

Why aren't there any review scores? Sure lots of the big sites will wait and fully experience the game, but I'm surprised no one has jumped in with a quick review.

Is this a Bungie thing?

It is reviewers thing.

They played only 20-30 hours until the release... after they need more time with big population and finally the Raid is unlocked on Sep 13rd.

No reviewer wants to review a game that they didn't have full experience.

There is a review that give a 4/5 score for it 20 hours and called pre review... he will give another score after 13rd.

That's pretty cool that reviewers as of late have been more ok with taking their time.

The campaign is about the same by count... maybe a little more missions but the length of each mission is double or triple of the first.

Even rushing you will take over 10 hours to reach end of game content.

I'd be quite surprised if it did better than the first game to be honest. I haven't seen it selling to new audiences and a fair amount of people who bought the first game aren't interested in this.

You need to take account a lot of people get into Destiny after TTK... these are now day one buyers.

D1 launched at over 5 million units WW from 0.
D2 has over 30 million players to buy the game.

Even if 20 million choose not to buy it for whatever reason there are enough players to sell way more than D1.

I reached the level cap.

84 seems fair. I love the gameplay and it's really really fun, but it's hard to judge. Bungie basically invented their own genre with the first Destiny and this one is a 10/10 for that genre.

Bungie invented hub based MMORPGs and not Blizzard?

Own genre, what? What is this genre? It wasn't much different to a lot of games out there to me.

Well the only game Destiny-like until now is Division... the next one the Anthem.

While Destiny didn't create a new genre it is indeed unique enough to be a sub-genre that others wants so hard to copy.

Destiny is like a single player game that takes place in a multiplayer world. It has similar elements to MMOs, but it's hardly the same type of game. It's drop in drop out co-op that's seamless.

Basically Bungie really loved the sandbox gameplay in parts of the Halo games and they expanded that concept into a whole game.

I think "Destiny-like" games will continue to release for the foreseeable future. It's a smart blend between open world single player games and MMOs.

It is the same type of game though.  Just in first person and with a gun.  The first Guild Wars would play identical if it was in first person and had guns.  They innovated the shooter genre for sure, but it's not its own genre.  A sub genre maybe.

I've never looked into Guild Wars but that's still an MMO. I don't consider Destiny its own genre or sub genre because it's an FPS, but because it uses the game world as a sort of multiplayer matchmaking. It's practically a huge skeuomorphic menu system.

Destiny is more or less an MMORPG in the same vein of Diablo.  It's that genre.  Just with first person guns instead of top down magic.  Or in more modern cases, third person magic.

So they are trying to be Destiny-like now?

Don't take me wrong... at launch I played over 500 hours of Warframe on my PS4 until Destiny.... it at time aren't similar.... I really enjoyed Warframe (there are some weird battle minigame that you need to create a bridge in your clan to fight others when I left).

I think they've always had the goal of expanding in this direction, but they do seem to be taking some influences from Destiny.

Game Informe 9/10

"Destiny 2 is a massive and rewarding game that offers the potential for hundreds of hours of fun and discovery with friends. Quibbles aside, Bungie has crafted a fantastic follow-up to a wildly popular formula, and one that no other developer has come close to equaling in sophistication. Many of the streamlining choices welcome a new crop of Guardians into the mix, but also make this new game more playable and understandable for even returning players. As I settle in for what I hope to be another several years of adventures, I hope Bungie can nail the elusive balance between depth and accessibility."

I just found amusing he threading Destiny like a solo game while it is a co op game experience.

I will never recommend Destiny to somebody that wants just to play solo.

I did my campaign with two different groups :)

I've never heard a 86 described as amazing before.
95 (Good game)-> 94 (bad game)
85(bad game) -> 86 (good game)

It's quite simple really.

I think it means more the 82 to 86 meta. Most games trend to lose 1-2 points with late reviews.

I'll say this.  Destiny is great.  But ultimately, it doesn't have much competition.  Coop games have decided to die for some reason.  Now if the space was more cut throat...

Yeap it is boring if you don't like Destiny or just want some technical info about the game.

BTW these are the rules for Kotaku's Reviews.

I like Kotaku's game coverage. Didn't mean to imply it was boring, just that I was interested in what made it unusual but didn't have the time to read.

Also easy allies put up their video review.

I've been playing the raid, and at first I was really frustrated with how hard and annoying it was. But then I realized that as long as people in the group aren't idiots, it's really not that hard.

10/10 WOULD GRIND!
