Hoping you're wrong but 87 would be great! I'm gonna wait on this one, my first thoughts were 86 with about the same range as you but the small snippets of impressions we've got on twitter are more positive than expected.
I'm also waiting.
I wonder if tlou2 will have any affect on this. Maybe pushing scores down, or maybe pushing them up if ghost is just a fun world to be in.

Yep and I'm feeling the hype! Even more so after watching AC Valhalla gameplay, this game just looks superior in every single way. I've been waiting for an AC Japan for ages and since AC has gone down the shitter this has peaked my interest even more. Even better that it looks like it could be better than any AC game ever put out, with a lot more unique stuff going on.
Just looks like good streamlined fun.

Lol. I don't think I'll be disappointed with any 80+ score. Infamous SS was an 80 and I had a great time with it.
Would just be great to see another Sony studio join the ranks of the critical darlings.

One of the big issues I had with the infamous games was that the side content generally lacked anything.
Think it was easily the weakest part of infamous. A lot of content but most of it was meaningless. Sounds the same here from one of the reviews.

Sounds like its a fine game but it doesn't do anything new and doesn't shine in many areas. Basically what we expected, although it seems to have some more issues and common complaints than I thought it might.
This is the same level of reviews as AC Odyssey and lots of people love that and call it one of their favourite games ever, so who knows. I can't wait to play it at least.

Yeah I mean I really liked infamous SS and that had 80 on meta or something. Their games are very fun but flawed and the open world is a bit simple. Not the witcher, Rockstar open world type
This just makes me appreciated Horizon Zero Dawn even more. Guerrilla really nailed it first time with their open world new IP and they didn't have prior experience with open world games.

This one has me super hyped. SkillUp usually has similar tastes to me.
This really does sound like everything I wanted modern AC to be. No RPG battleship, just adventure. A world which is more organic to explore than a just following exclamation marks on a UI minimap.

A few good reviews in a row and now its at #2019, so right in the middle of 84.
What I'm liking most is that this is apparently a solid evolution of pre-Origins style AC games which is exactly what I wanted. Hopefully it does well and the sequels push on from here.

Digital Foundry mentioned the load times are surprisingly short.

Nope, loading is very short. Death load screen is like 5 seconds maximum. Fast travel is a few seconds only but I haven't gone that far yet. The loading in between some jumps/ cuts to black in story missions can take up to 10 seconds sometimes but that's very infrequent and doesn't feel too bad.
How would you describe the combat? What game does it feel like?
Its basically like a spicy old AC/ Arkham style system. You have enemies coming at you with attacks, you can either dodge or parry to try and counter and sometimes that's forced. However there's a lot more going on and its a lot more complex. You hold L1 to block but if you press it as an attack comes in then its a parry.
If you attack enemies they have their guard up so you need to use heavy attacks to break their guard. You can change stances to be more effective against different enemy types, breaking their guard faster and possibly having other advantages like more damage.
There's usually ranged enemies you have to watch out for but they always shout before they fire (to warn their allies) so you gotta listen for the cues and dodge at the right time.
Then of course you have your own bow with different ammo types and different gadgets you can use too. You also unlock special attacks and different combos. Plus the skill trees seem quite extensive giving you lots of unique skills, for example I can now deflect arrows if I'm holding block.
So yeah it basically feels like a much more free flowing evolution of that old AC combat formula. Its like a dance at dance and it feels really awesome when its going well. Its definitely quite challenging, I imagine on hard you can die a lot. Multiple enemies do attack you at the same time so you do have to be quite patient and wait for the right times to strike, especially against bigger groups.

Amazing game. Has a cool look and unique play. Not like most games.
I'm kind of conflicted on this game but in a good way. It feels very good and it is such a really good game but when I'm playing it it just doesn't quite feel GOTY contender level, even though when I think in my head I can't really find enough flaws to score it less than 9/10 it feels like it just doesn't quite earn it. I gave Jedi Fallen Order a 9/10 and I can't really reason why this game isn't as good but it just doesn't really quiote feel it.
idk maybe I just need to experience more of the main story and more of the world, I'm barely 1/3 through.

TLOU2 is a large part of that but it's not on the level of Assassin's Creed either. Game uses a lot of tricks to make up for it which work most of the time so I don't mind.
This game just gets better as it goes on.

Well the gameplay is excellent. I think critics were harsh because its yet another open world game that doesn't really do anything new. However pretty much everything in the game is designed really well and helps flesh out the world. Side quests in particular are much stronger than expected, they're basically the best that any dev has managed outside of possibly TW3. The world is vast yet not overwhelming and it feels fun and meaningful to explore.

And there's the credits. I think act 3 was the weakest act unfortunately but the game stuck the landing. Excellent work from Sucker Punch, can't wait to see more.

Two 85s and a 90 added to meta. It may well crawl back to 84 at this rate but it doesn't really matter at this point I suppose. Open is also still climbing, I guess they will finish a fair bit apart which is definitely unusual. I guess the 6/10 from Edge on meta is the big difference.
