There's no quick resume it seems but games load from cold about as fast as they resume on series X, its just missing the jumping right back to where you were. I guess that's the sacrifice for extra storage space.

The new party stuff feels like the big new next gen thing with screen sharing and fast joining, the game helps activities and cards are nice but nothing crazy.

Feels like there's going to be no big surprising feature, the speed and party innovations are the main big thing. Everything like the store being integrated and the control centre mean its going to be so much smoother and faster than PS4, which is already pretty good. That's what matters most for launch, they can add more features down the line.

Big things missing was a look at the store, settings menus and stuff like that and no exploration of the home screen and how folders and media will work. We know games and media are separate though which is great.

yeah that looks frickin fantastic.  Love the store is now fully integrated and not a separate app.  Picture in picture is really cool to being able to watch another friends playthrough while still playing your own.  Not sure i'd use it too often but i like the idea of it.

The home screen being a modernized and slicker version of the PS4 home screen was the perfect move.

Why is this icon called switcher? Perhaps there is some kind of game switching after all? On top of that, there was no message to say sackboy would close or be suspended when switching games.

Edit: I also totally missed that on entering rest mode it says "suspend your games" which it definitely wouldn't say if you could only suspend one.

i thought we had confirmation that we would be able to resume multiple games?  Or was that just an "insider" saying that?

We've had no confirmation.

Lets see if devs actually support cards this time lol.

PS4 does the same thing with live area but it was so easy to ignore.

i hope so.  These seem to have tons more functionality purposes for the games.  Hopefully its a little more mandatory this time around.

Live area was crud this is much more integrated.

Also new find, you can see at the 8:40 mark of the video both Sackboy and Destruction allstars are suspended:

PS5 can suspend multiple games for sure.

my last meeting ended early with just enough time to watch the video.

1. i agree.  ps5 cold boot was very close to xbox quick resume.
2. i think multi-quick resume was rumored anyways.
3. not every game will be able to support quick resume.   mp games like rocket league and destruction all stars just can't really quick resume.
4. in sackboy at least the cards showed the ability to "quick resume" from multiple locations in the game so in a lot of ways it is even more powerful than xbox.

look at you Mr. Detective.  Lol

But its definitely gonna be awesome to be able to just have 2 or more games running at once and just swap between.

I didn't spot any of these things I'm just reading the Era thread.

Also it seems we have no way of confirming that it means those games are suspended, so guess we have to hold that thought.

I share your concern.   this looks awesome in sackboy but that's a first party game.   to me this looks "expensive" to implement and thus might not be supported well.   however, it is very "front and center" so maybe developers will feel like they have to support it.

well shame.  I was trying to give you credit!

Well yeah but i can't imagine they wouldn't have that functionality.  Time will tell.  Hopefully bigger gaming sites get hands on soon so we can get consumer feedback.

i want call out the throw away sentence that your media services will be on the bar.   thank goodness because that is my most hated part of the ps4 interface.

Really stupid but the 6 seconds of Destruction All Stars during this made me more excited than the announcement trailer.

It just looks really fluid.

The announcement trailer felt stupid because of how over the top it looked.

I am not saying I am excited for it, but I literally had negative interest in it before.

i wish we would have gotten to see the "music" section better.   it's an important feature to me and i think the spotify integration on ps4 was too featureless for my tastes.  i really, really want to be able to pick my music service but if i'm stuck with spotify at least make it so i don't feel like i need to curate lists on a PC in order to have anything worth listening to on playstation.

i know, it's just amazing how completely opposite the views seem to me.

my first though is how fast and responsive everything is.   it's really not substantially different (from what they've shown) from ps4 other than how well integrated and fast the UiUx is.  same XMB bar.  same game pages.  parties.  share. ect.   only "activity cards" really stand out as new and i have great fears of them being mostly unsupported.

Yeah and number 2 to me is baffling. The home menu looks incredible to me, people complaining about small icons and empty space are frickin crazy, that space gets filled by game info without lots of slow moving parts, its designed to be sleek and fast and it works so well.

The activity cards are my one worry, it looks like there's way too many of them and he had to go right for quite a while to be able to join his party in the other game, hopefully we can tweak that in some ways by changing the number of them we see or their ordering or grouping.

I know what you mean by this, its good actually seeing some running gameplay for it rather than quick cut shots. And I can see how the tone of the trailer might have put you off. It was easier to see here that it is actually a big budget AAA game.

what makes you think it is a big budget AAA game?   because it has a character editor?

Watch from 8:10 to 8:22 and you see all 3 characters feet are below the floor.  doesn't really scream high effort to me...

Quality of graphics, animation and just the look of it overall look AAA quality. And what makes me actually think its a big budget AAA game is because the devs said so and shinobi reiterated on Era. I don't dismiss a game and its devs just because of one small graphical glitch from an early build.

That's actually kinda funny. It's not too uncommon to not put physics on geometry like that, but why would you highlight it in a video?

Also am I the only one weirdly intrigued by the fact that this is classified under "State of Play"? Could this potentially hint at the possibilty of State of Plays happening without prior announcements in the future?

I mean look at this video, the metrics are crazy. If you have the right content then these things can spread like wildfire without needing to drum up much attention beforehand, plus you don't need to deal with setting people's expectations as much.

Yeah I thought it was strange they called it a state of play.

I'm kind of expecting at least one more state of play like this.

Yeah you see foot clipping all the time in games but its funny they didn't avoid it here, it puts a big of a negative on the game that was totally unneeded. They could have taken the screenshot anywhere else.

The metrics are huge but a preannounced premiere would definitely still be bigger.

To articulate what I was feeling before with Destruction all stars.

If you have ever played Horizon, there's a really nice fluidity with running. It still feels grounded but it feels faster and free-er. It honestly feels fun just running around in a way that most games don't manage.

We only saw a few seconds here, but I see a similar fluidity.

So I have a feeling that game is actually going to be fun.

I'm less worried about it being fun then I am about it being empty.  no matter hhow good the game is it will suck if you can only play against bots.

sony has failed to build any hype for this.  mp games die in just a few weeks if you can't built a community right away.

I still think this would do better as a free to play game.

Yeah this should have been a F2P game. And on PS4. I would have definitely tried it out if it was. Seems like a lot of silly fun.

Someone found the switcher icon when outside of a game or before the game loaded at startup, it shows up as this (second along):

Which is a pretty universal symbol from phones for switching between open apps. I watched the video again and indeed you can see that icon just for a split second before it switches to Sackboy.

I kind of wonder if we will start getting weekly UI showings.

There is still stuff to show like the switcher.  And they said there was more to show in the coming weeks till launch.

apparently,.. seems there are loads of people that join a VC by themselves as a work around to muting people in a mp match.   to me it seems like a dumb workaround and people should be requesting a feature to "mute all" in a mp gaming.

i games with my friend on thursday worried that the new system would be disruptive based on all the whining.   i dunno,. as far as i'm concerned the system is an improvement.  ...but i only have the one friend i game with regularly so maybe i just don't have enough friends.

Its annoying to me as it was an easy option to permenantly mute all other players, a lot of games have it where you have to do it every new lobby you enter which sucks. I know a lot of solo streamers enter a solo party to avoid any slip of other people in voice chat too.

It does suck and honestly I don't see much of a positive of this new party system, permanent groups to make a quick party with the people you want are cool but they didn;t have to remove the ability of making new/ private parties to implement it.
