Sony was a 7/10
Nintendo was an 8/10

Out of the big 3, Nintendo did the best.

Agreed. Against my expectations Nintendo was a 10/10 but it was incredibly short and announcing games without showing anything is a bit lame. I think I agree fully with your ratings too, I'd give MS a 6.

Are you all kidding me?

Mario looked great, I'll give you that. But then what?

Xenoblade 2 looked absolutely awful, the voice acting was poor and whoever designed that female main character should be embarrassed.

Yoshi and Kirby looked like typical Nintendo filler games, that they usually announce a couple months before launch. But somehow both are 2018.

Pokemon for Switch announced... with nothing at all to show. Of course there is going to be a Pokemon game for Switch at some point, so why would this obvious announcement garner any points at all?

Metroid Prime 4 was less obvious of course, but the announcement with nothing but a logo and a "Now in Development" was almost equally as worthless.

Fire Emblem Warriors can be dressed up as much as they want, it'll still just be a Musou game.

Mario Rabbids still looks dumb and annoying and while Rocket League is a big announcement, it's still just a port (of a game that I personally don't care about).

After this show I'm interested in one less game for the Switch, that's a pretty awful bottom line for the show.

Yoshi and Kirby -> usually good games, even if they aren't huge titles.

Pokemon for Switch, Metroid Prime 4 -> Two huge games that were confirmed. Although not shown.  We know they are coming, and that's pretty exciting.

Mario Rabbids -> A lot of people here are pretty excited about it, and think it looks great.

I was expecting them to talk about literally 2 games.  But they talked about or showed like 10 games in 25 minutes.  Not a bad showing, and gives a lot to look forward to.

Just checked the Neogaf thread and I'm certainly not alone in thinking that the Xenoblade trailer looked bad.

Other than that I don't care about 2D platformers nor about Kirby and Yoshi and I was already on board for Mario Odyssey. I'd actually like to know what you guys saw, that I apparently missed.

Metroid is not nearly as big as the internet makes it sound, but fine whatever. I'm sure as heck not giving them Pokemon. Of course Pokemon was coming, there was quite literally a 0% chance of that not happening at some point in the Switch's life.

Not even close.  The only home system that had a pokemon RPG was the gamecube.  Nothing on the Wii or Wii U.
While Nintendo is treating the Switch as a portable system when its convenient, they seemed to solidify that the 3DS was the system that was still going to be getting the mainstream pokemon games just a week ago.

So, no there was not a 0% chance of it not happening.  Not even close.

I'm honestly not even that excited about Nintendo's stream.  I don't care about Metroid, but it's annoying that you are acting like there's no reason for anyone to be excited for anything that was shown off.  Which is so far from the truth that it's ridiculous.

Lol, are you kidding me? I'm saying that I found the show to be trash and explained my reasons why.

And regarding the Pokemon Switch game, simply answer me one question: Where the fudge was Gamefreak supposed to go with the mainline Pokemon games after the 3DS went away, if not to the Switch?

as if there was absolutely nothing positive about the show.  That the possibility that a few people enjoyed the show had to be a joke.  Your reasons don't matter to other people, because they don't share the same opinions.  And I'm trying to explain that there were some positives about the show, by giving reasonable possibilities for why the problems you have with the games shown, aren't what other people are seeing.

Nintendo is releasing a new member of the 3DS family next month.  They aren't getting rid of it at the end of this year.  Game freak can support the 3DS for a few more years, at which point Nintendo is likely to release a new portable centric console.
Title: Re: Nintendo E3 spotlight
Post by: Legend on Jun 13, 2017, 05:32 PM
Xenoblad looked lame but not something I care about.
Yoshi looked like tearaway so that's kinda cool.
Kirby's co-op mechanic is clever.

But yoshi and kirby also just look like standard Nintendo 2d platformers. Nintendo just pumps them out nowadays and they all feel identical, well at least that's my personal impression.

Fire Emblem warriors is just another one of those games. Again not one I personally care about.

Pokemon for switch was awesome mostly because the direct crushed a lot of people's hopes. I don't think a significant amount of people were expecting that announcement today. I only saw it coming because I realised the pokemon direct was needed since Pokken couldn't be announced today.
I'm not even that big of a fan of pokemon but it's a cool announcement.

I'm also not that big of a Metroid fan. I love super metroid but Metroid Prime is so overrated from the last time I played it. Nevertheless, it's an awesome announcement. Every year Nintendo has made it feel like a proper metroid was less and less likely.

This reveal is Shenmue 3 levels for a lot of people.

Loved Odyssey. Really cool they kept that hat mechanic a secret.

9/10
Pretty close with Ubisoft even though I'm personally not hyped for a single thing they showed.

The "are you kidding me" was because I was shocked that everyone was so high on this conference on here, while I thought it was so bad. I was surprised at the difference in opinion. You're reading too much into the verbage of a non-native speaker.

Also Nintendo might release a Switch version that ditches the dock or whatever, but releasing an entirely seperate new handheld would just be bonkers of them. They are on the way to converging their handheld and console software development teams, why would they split them again?

I'm with Dernebel on this.  You guys are literally praising Nintendo for the same things you're shitting on Sony for.  "There were no surprises with Sony's conference, 6/10".  Nintendo literally announces more of the same, which they've been doing for the past 20 years and you're all "This is so amazing 10/10".  Like, they didn't even show gameplay for Metroid!

I gave it an 8/10, only one point more than sony.  And that was judging it as a 25 minute video. I'm not saying Nintendo was amazing and I'm certainly not shitting on Sony. If I treat them as the same spectacle and pretend Nintendo's was supposed to be a long press conference then I wouldn't score it as highly.

Sony dropped the ball by announcing nothing new, and this is due to them announcing too much in the last two e3s. Meanwhile Nintendo announced over 5 new exclusives for their systems, and you can guarantee they'll come out sooner than a lot of games after Sony's announcements.

Sony didn't announce much new.  Nintendo did announce something new, despite those announcements being expected.
There is a difference.

Honestly if Sony announced Jak 4 without any screenshots or anything I'd still be losing my crud, so I don't think them not showing anything takes away everything. The announcement is still a net positive.

Sony did announce a lot.  They announced like 5 games on their pre-show and another 5 V.R. games on their main conference.  The majority of them weren't sequels either.  Nintendo announced nothing but sequels.  Not even early sequels.  Games that are on their 3rd or 4th iteration.

Just by going by the conference:

That's 5 VR games vs 5 games.

For someone like me, Sony conference is much better.  It had lots of other stuff.

For someone like Basil, who dislikes CAR for no good reason.  ::)
Sony's conference had absolutely nothing and Nintendo's was much better.

I personally don't see the issue with third or fourth titles.  On some level sequels are what people usually look forward to.  Because they fell in love with the game of the previous ones and they are looking forward to the next one.

Are you honestly telling me that Naughty Dog announcing Uncharted 5 and some other company announcing a good looking new IP, that you would be way more excited for the new IP?

If it's good of course.  Why do you think Naughty Dog planned to put Uncharted on ice for a while and just happened to expand an expansion story into a full game?  Hell The Last of Us got more interest than Uncharted 3, that has to tell you something.  We've been getting Metroid and Kirby for over 20/30 years and they haven't evolved much.  It's not even so much what Nintendo announced was bad, it was more of the same.  That's literally been NIntendo for the past 20 years.  Splatoon was the only thing in a long while that was a risk.  Where's more risks like Splatoon?  Also don't ignore the pre-conference either.  Sony announced titles there too while showing off titles they had announced prior.  Like my issue is that people are literally complaining that Sony didn't show anything new, while Nintendo is getting praised for showing sequels?    Like would you rather Sony's conference have been Twisted Metal 6, Uncharted 5, Jak 6, and whatever sequel Crash and Spyro are on?(Edit: As if Sony announced these sequels a year after releasing the last releases)  Cause that's essentially what Nintendo did.

I Care a lot about presentation and fun value of the shows as shows.

NIntendo was more enjoyable to watch even if by the numbers it was not special.

Like would you rather Sony's conference have been Twisted Metal 6, Uncharted 5, Jak 6, and whatever sequel Crash and Spyro are on?
Yes that would have been a million times better.

Those are so awesome. I wonder if you can still use your hat in 2D, or if you can bring items into 2D.
