Apex Legends had a really awkward reveal but has done wonders with the "available now" approach. I think a lot of us felt like Apex Legends was a side project to their Star Wars game, but I wonder if the success of this reveal will make big shadow drops more popular. EA spent essentially nothing on marketing it yet it's being received like a regular AAA heavy hitter.

Also it'll be interesting to see how well it keeps players. I don't think it has any real chance of dethroning Fortnight, but it might have a shot at replacing PUBG at #2.
It also helps that it seems very polished and high quality. The feedback I heard was that it was awesome and very well done. Pubg and fortnight took a long time to reach that stage. Even if its low on content compared to the two, it's basically a finished product. And they are already talking about their first event which will help keep up moumentum.

Apex currently has 700k viewers on twitch as they're doing a tournament with all the top streamers. This is crazy. Shroud is by far the most popular streamer, he has over 200k himself, more than triple anyone else. People love watching this game.

It wasn't awkward, it was planned quite far in advance and they nailed it. That's the thing, they didn't let us start to wonder whether Apex was just a side project, they didn't let any negative feelings build, they just let the game speak for itself. And the game is fudgy awesome.

They were confident that their game was good enough to pull off this strategy and they were absolutely right.

This tournament format is awesome, its very exciting and works really well with a BR game.

Apex Legends beats Fortnite record for single-day Twitch viewing | ResetEra

Quote
In addition to rapidly gathering a large audience, Apex Legends is now making waves on Twitch.

The free-to-play battle royale title achieved the fourth highest single-day views in five years, thanks to the Twitch Rivals event arranged by developer Respawn and the streaming platform earlier this week.

On February 12th, Apex Legends fans watched 8.4 million hours of matches, according to Twitch tracker Gamoloco. The firm's study dates back to October 2014.

Most notably, that's more than a million higher that Fortnite's most successful single-day viewing, which was 7.2 million hours for the game's Season 5 launch last July.  Click to expand...  More at the source
[/size]

Apex with its tournament a few days ago beat Fortnite's all time single day twitch viewing record. That's very impressive.

UK Charts: Far Cry New Dawn is No.1, but Metro Exodus is the real winner | GamesIndustry.biz

Quote
Far Cry: New Dawn is this week's No.1 game in the UK boxed retail charts. The game's launch week sales are 86.5 per cent down over last year's Far Cry 5. Of course, this is a spin-off Far Cry title, and so the comparison isn't overly fair. Yet even compared to 2016's Far Cry Primal (the previous spin-off), sales are a fraction of what we'd typically expect (Far Cry Primal sold almost four times as many units in its first week as New Dawn has). 60 per cent of Far Cry: New Dawn sales came on PS4, 39 per cent on Xbox One, with the rest on PC (physical sales only).
Quote
Metro Exodus missed out on No.1 by just 2,000 units. Yet more significantly, the game has posted a better opening week than 2013's Metro Last Light (released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC). This result is even more impressive when you consider the growth of digital sales in the six years between the two titles (digital game sales are not counted in this data).
Launch physical sales for Metro Exodus are almost 50 per cent higher than Last Light. 57 per cent of Metro Exodus sales came on PS4.
Quote
Next up in terms of new releases is Bandai Namco's Jump Force at No.4. Its a strong opening performance for the fighting game, and continues an impressive few weeks for the publisher (following recent strong sales of Tales Of and Ace Combat). The game performed best on PS4, accounting for 76 per cent of the game's launch sales.
Quote
The most disappointing launch of the week belongs to Microsoft's Crackdown 3, which only made No.13. The game's launch sales are barely 10 per cent of what Crackdown 2 managed in 2010. Of course, the industry was very different back then. Xbox 360 was the market leading console, digital sales were not as significant as they are today (again, only physical is counted here) and Crackdown 3 will likely have picked up a fair few users via the Xbox Game Pass subscription service (which isn't included here).
Far Cry: ~25k
Metro: ~23k
Crackdown: ~4k

Terrible for Crackdown, pretty bad for Far Cry and that looks bad for Metro but being 50% up on Last Light is great, I guess. Can't wait til we get digital numbers so we can see the full picture, hopefully that'll be soon.

As a reference for Far Cry New Dawn, Far Cry 5 debuted at about 185k, and Primal was around 90k. These are all physical only.

Ubisoft is killing the farcry IP. I hate them for that. They are milking it to death now and making spin offs that aren't requested. Seriously who asked for new dawn and who asked for it so soon after Farcry 5? And why on earth was Farcry 5 in the boring dog USA. Their handling of the franchise is atrocious. Shame because I love it

Xevross

Zhuge said that the combined first week of Jump Force, Far Cry New Dawn, Metro and Crackdown 3 in the UK last week was still less than half of Crash Trilogy's original debut on PS4.

FC+Metro+C3=52k. Crash we know was 110k+. Checks out.

That's quite sad

Digital would help but still. Feb is having low scores and low sales.

2018 France physical sales, if that wasn't obvious. Sales split between PS4 and XB1 for fifa and cod are 84/16 and 85/15 respectively (both basically 5:1). Just shows you how bad xb1 is in mainland Europe.

Switch is extremely impressive, obviously. Also fifa on Switch doubled YOY.

Switch going up was unexpected. Very good!

PS4 despite three new releases still dropped by 10 units. Baseline has been reached methinks.

Cute Pikachu

FIFA 19 Switch growth is good! Maybe FIFA 20 goes past 300k!

Honestly, I think Switch is starting to help build the sports fan base. Especially since T2 was pleased with NBA sales(both 18 and 19) on Switch.

Switch baseline in Japan is impressive and NSMBUDX is beating expectations.
