Apex currently has 700k viewers on twitch as they're doing a tournament with all the top streamers. This is crazy. Shroud is by far the most popular streamer, he has over 200k himself, more than triple anyone else. People love watching this game.
Apex Legends had a really awkward reveal but has done wonders with the "available now" approach. I think a lot of us felt like Apex Legends was a side project to their Star Wars game, but I wonder if the success of this reveal will make big shadow drops more popular. EA spent essentially nothing on marketing it yet it's being received like a regular AAA heavy hitter.
Also it'll be interesting to see how well it keeps players. I don't think it has any real chance of dethroning Fortnight, but it might have a shot at replacing PUBG at #2.
It wasn't awkward, it was planned quite far in advance and they nailed it. That's the thing, they didn't let us start to wonder whether Apex was just a side project, they didn't let any negative feelings build, they just let the game speak for itself. And the game is fudgy awesome.
They were confident that their game was good enough to pull off this strategy and they were absolutely right.
