Well not really, everyone should know its all about stock at this point. People assuming anything about demand are doing it on their own and being idiots

Series X/S selling the most in the UK is interesting. I wonder if is Xbox just prioritised the UK/ Europe in Jan or if this is a trend and we'll see XBS ahead in NPD too.

I know that PS5 didn't see any stock in the UK and most of Europe until the final week while in the US & Japan it was more sustained, so perhaps this is just a one off. We'll see, interesting times.

with stock where its at there is no point to trying to rationalize this as anything other than stock allocation.

GTAV hits 140M lifetime sales with 5M in the last quarter. 2020 is GTAV's best year since its launch year of 2013, with 20M sales in 2020.

Xbox Series S/X was the No.1 console of January | UK Monthly GfK Charts | GamesIndustry.biz

~150-155k consoles sold in the UK in Jan with XBS #1, Switch #2 and PS5 #3 with all three very close to each other.

+148% total YoY means about 60-65k consoles were sold last Jan. Switch was probably about 2/3 of that and now +21% YoY so about 50k this year. Makes sense, I would guess:

XBS ~50k
Switch ~45k
PS5 ~45k

PS5 back down in Japan this week. 13k a week is still decent though if it holds. Switch is very supply limited once again.

Nice rebound for PS5 and Switch this week. We're coming up on the PS4 launch date, so here's the global launch aligned comparison starting with famitsu week 6.

This is the PS4's burst start period, from that last week on it was pretty low, 10-15k range, so if PS5 can keep up it might stay ahead. Needs 21k a week to be ahead at the end of this set.

You can do it ps5!

I get the feeling stock will be a problem for most of 2021. Covid is going to keep things complicated for a long time. I saw a report on car makers not being able to make enough chips even.

Hardware sales in Spain in Jan:

Week 1:

Switch: 20,000
PlayStation 4: 4,000
Xbox Series X|S: 490 / 31,300 LTD
PlayStation 5: 470 / 78,900 LTD

Week 2:

Switch: 6,000
Xbox Series X|S: 50 / 31,400 LTD
PlayStation 5: 40 / 78,900 LTD

Week 3:

Switch: 5,000
PlayStation 5: 3,400 / 82,300 LTD
Xbox Series X|S: 1,160 / 32,550 LTD

Week 4:

PlayStation 5: 5,050 / 87,350
Xbox Series X|S: 900 / 33,450
Switch: 3,300
PlayStation 4: 1,500
Xbox One: 120

Jan totals: Switch 33.3k, PS5 9k, XBS 2.6k

PS5 really struggled in the first two weeks of the year in every country, it seems like there was basically no PS5 shipments in 2021 at all until the second half of Jan. This is probably how XBS managed to sell more in the UK in Jan overall.

Now PS5 seems to have stabilised and is selling at a better level, could well keep above Switch in Sony countries like Spain. I hope we get to hear about UK sales in Feb.

PS5 End of 2020:

US 1958k, UK ~450k, Japan 265k, Spain 78k. Ratio 25 : 6 : 3.5 : 1 . Total sales: 2.75M

PS5 January:

US ~265k, UK ~42k, Japan 61k, Spain 9k. Ratio 29 : 5 : 7 : 1 . Total sales 380k. 3.13M LTD.

XBS End of 2020:

US 1492k, UK ~300k, Japan 31k, Spain 30k. Ratio 50 : 10 : 1 : 1 . Total sales 1.85M

XBS January:

US ~130k, UK ~ 50k, Japan 1.9k, Spain 2.6k. Ratio 50 : 19 : 0.7 : 1 . Total sales 185k. 2.04M LTD.

PS5 to XBS ratio in these markets at the end of 2020 was 1.48 : 1. The January ratio was 2.05 : 1.

-------------

So some notes here, stock distribution in holiday vs January is actually a lot more stable than I thought.

PS5's stock in US vs UK vs Spain was remarkably consistent, while Japan's share of the stock roughly doubled in January. For XBS its a similar story except it was the UK that saw its share double. This explains why XBS was the #1 console in the UK in January while its overall January sales were poor. Both consoles sold in a roughly 5 : 1 ratio between US and UK in 2020 and PS5 continued that in January, but xbox shifted to more like 2.5 : 1.

January is only one month and these are only 4 markets so its hard to judge any kind of post-holiday trend here, but if this is an indicator it looks like xbox are actually struggling a lot more with stock post holiday than playstation are.
