Oh and DD, Russia benefit by giving the rebels weapons and equipment. It's been speculated that this was done by the rebels, so indirectly by Russia.

Could've killed people on the ground as well I guess. Not sure how reliable the source is but if the BBC are using it it must be very reliable.

but shooting it down will just hurt them.   russia themselves wont have gained anything by this,  all shooting down a plane would do is make the west pissed off, and they will put in more sanctions and actions in ukraine.  making it harder for the rebels.    If its the rebels that did it, its the same deal, shooting down the plane will just enrage the other side, making the fight they are already fighting even harder.

but then again it could also just be a couple morons on the rebels side who had a SAM and wanted to shoot something, and didnt think about the consequences such an action would impose

19:00: A tweet (in Russian) from a key Twitter account used by pro-Russian separatists, in which they claim to have captured a Buk surface-to-air missile system, has now been deleted, BBC Monitoring observes. Ukrainians say the Malaysian plane could have been downed with a Buk, but pro-Russian rebels have now denied they have it

Dr. Pezus

Yeah...this is not suspicious at all

DD_Bwest

you know the more i think about this,  the more i think its the later idea i just thought.   a few morons on the rebel side used it without thinking about who or what they were shooting, and what would happen if they shot down a passenger jet.

Xevross

The rebels know they've iced up now.

Dr. Pezus

Yeah they probably thought this was another military plane or something

Dr. Pezus

Think about this: Over 500 dead this year flying with Malaysian Airlines.

19:20: Italy's Alitalia has joined the growing list of airlines to announce it is diverting flights away from eastern Ukraine in the wake of the incident. The list also includes: Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, Russia's Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines.

Xevross

More and more evidence is pointing towards it being fired by the Rebels.

Journalist Noah Sneider tweets: At crash site of #MH17. Bodies everywhere, organs splayed out. Too gruesome to post photographs. This is an absolute disaster. #ukraine

Flight recorders have been found at the crash site, Konstantin Knyrik, a spokesman for the pro-Russian rebels, has told Interfax news agency. Earlier reports quoted rebels as saying they intended to send the flight recorders to Moscow for checking.
