I want one.getting both next gen systems or switching to xbox?
Please be good Halo Infinite.
getting both next gen systems or switching to xbox? Both.
Both.my opinion,.. mult-console ownership is overrated. i had wii, ps3, xbox. 2 of the 3 just collected dust. too much of the library is the same. yes, missing a few exclusives sucks but there are sooooo many games to play on any one machine it isn't worth it to get hardware to play 2-3 exclusives.
Xbox One has been the only system I've skipped since I got into gaming. Since xsx has full bc, I figure it's a good way to play the few good games I missed. If Halo looks bad though I might end up holding off. That's what happened last gen.

Every other system I've owned has been played a lot. 360 and PS3 worked out since I split multiplats between the two.
my opinion.
I want one.Unless the Series X is really expensive, this will be the first gen I get an Xbox as well.
Unless the Series X is really expensive, this will be the first gen I get an Xbox as well. Why didn't you get an og xbox or 360?
Why didn't you get an og xbox or 360?Other systems gave me more than enough to play. Still have PS2, PS3 games to play.
Have you never played Halo?Nope, but I have it on PC now.

Nope, but I have it on PC now.
[/size]QuoteMicrosoft's Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, says the company's next-gen Xbox Series X console is still on schedule for later this year, but game production is a little more of an unknown (https://www.theverge.com/2020/5/1/21243860/xbox-series-x-launch-release-date-timing-coronavirus-games-schedule). In an interview with CNBC (https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/30/xbox-series-x-on-schedule-xbox-games-could-be-delayed-by-coronavirus.html), Spencer notes that there could be "some impact" to Xbox Series X schedules, but that "the teams are doing a very good job with keeping our hardware on track" and "overall we're in line with where we thought we would be."This's how it's for the entire industry right now, and is probably gonna affect next gen launch for both 1st and 3rd party.
"I'd say the bigger unknown is probably the game production, just being honest," says Spencer. "Game production is a large scale entertainment activity now, you have hundreds of people coming together, building assets, working through creative."
Xbox game developers are now mostly working from home, creating and sharing assets that are often gigabytes in size over US home internet connections -- an obvious challenge. "On the game production side, we're learning every day," admits Spencer. "I still feel good about it, but I also need to make sure that the security and safety of the teams is the most important thing, and not unduly push when things just aren't ready." Click to expand... Phil Spencer: Xbox Series X still set to launch on schedule, but games could be delayed | ResetEra (https://www.resetera.com/threads/phil-spencer-xbox-series-x-still-set-to-launch-on-schedule-but-games-could-be-delayed.195567/)i don't make games,.. and my team is tiny compared to AAA game development,.. but we are having a hard time staying on schedule too. we're not at a stand-still but adjusting to virtual everything has been quite the challenge. we seemed to be fixing the communication problems by having waaaaay too many meetings. and that cuts into actual productivity quickly.
This's how it's for the entire industry right now, and is probably gonna affect next gen launch for both 1st and 3rd party.

So basically it's worse than x1x for everything other than series gamesSeries games matter the most tho
So basically it's worse than x1x for everything other than series gameswell, all it's really saying is series s would need to be optimized differently than xbox one x. it would seem that MS is going to make series s specific optimizations but 3rd parties are not. makes sense,.. why would they when there is no money it it for them and the customer for series s is the customer that chose to not prioritize great graphics over price.
So basically it's worse than x1x for everything other than series gamesIn terms of raw power only its CPU is better than X, but everything is on newer and more efficient architecture. It means that games optimised for it will be better but it will run unoptimised games worse.
well, all it's really saying is series s would need to be optimized differently than xbox one x. it would seem that MS is going to make series s specific optimizations but 3rd parties are not. makes sense,.. why would they when there is no money it it for them and the customer for series s is the customer that chose to not prioritize great graphics over price.Yes I think a lot of third parties will just lower and lower resolution, texture quality and things like that until it runs well. They won't bother with any serious optimisation, especially if series S sells worse than expected. It'll lead to a lot of series S games not looking good.
xbox is going to be a real drag on development budgets with their separate optimizations required for: xbox one s, xbox one x, xbox series s, xbox series x. cross gen was bad enough when there wasn't two spec's per generation. good thing ms is marking the xbox series x as a thing that mostly just increases resolution and framerates because that will be easier for developers to deal with if they simply target series s as lead xbox platform.
Series games matter the most thoI guess... But Ms has been making a big deal out of BC
In terms of raw power only its CPU is better than X, but everything is on newer and more efficient architecture. It means that games optimised for it will be better but it will run unoptimised games worse.kind of like the current xbox one s..

Wonder if xbox disc install times will be even slower this gen?
since 100% of my library is digital this does nothing for me. decent idea though for the rift raft that still uses discs..I think it might still be nice for digital owners.
I think it might still be nice for digital owners.well, again not for me.
It would waste a lot of bandwidth, but I could see downloading a title I was interested in that I couldn't afford at the time and pay for it later and play it right away.

Gamepass is making mediocre games a lot more acceptable. It's one of the reason why I don't care at all about the idea of Sony first party games going to a similar service day 1. I want games that excite me enough to pay full price for, not meh games that I'd play because I'm paying the subscription anyways.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/lestream-xbox-series-x-is-hot.301070/Yeah dang
This will probably be the trade-off. PS5 will probably tend to be cooler
"Yet even with the console powered off, Series X stills dissipate heat from that top vent, owing to its optional "always on" mode, and I learned that by resting the gamepad on the venting array overnight, then picking up the controller and feeling that it was warm (not hot) 10 hours after I'd powered the console down."So much for series X being done by engineering magicians at xbox, there's always a trade off. I saw people saying that and thought how about we wait until we actually have the console to say its an amazing piece of engineering work.

Looks pretty good, definitely impressed with the graphics in the high fidelity mode. However the Era thread points out the game looks bad sometimes in a couple of the modes and suffers from a lot of issues like shadow pop-in.
Here's the 4K quality mode:
4K performance mode:
1440p 120fps mode:
iirc all these modes are available on PS5 too.
i really can't see the shadow pop-ins ect. all i can see is the 16 and 10 second load times. horrible stuff there.Think the shadow pop in was from other videos, there's a lot of previews that went up.
Think the shadow pop in was from other videos, there's a lot of previews that went up.well, it will be interesting to see what the ps5 numbers are. maybe it's half or less on ps5 since ps5 has the faster SSD and is better architected for getting data off of the SDD. the load time wasn't "terrible". just a lot worse than i would have expected considering load times is such a huge part of the current marking for next gen games.
Yeah loading screens of 5 seconds+ just shouldn't be a thing on next gen, its a clear sign of a game that's not been developed for next gen first.

Basically no more games on other platforms unless they can bring over Gamepass.
The $300 Xbox Series S is the twist. It's a smaller, cheaper unit, priced like a new Nintendo console, which tend to be innovative but under-powered. Microsoft boasts that the Series S will run cutting-edge games at high framerates, though not in 4K like the Series X. And unlike the Series X, it doesn't have a disc drive, and comes with 512GB of storage compared to the X's 1TB. It's a big step up from the main Xbox One on the market now, but it's certainly a stripped down Series X. It was only officially announced a month ago.
At launch, Spencer expects the X to be the hotter seller, driven by the kinds of early adopters who snatch new consoles

Man this has crept up on me. You really have to actually look for it to find excitment for Xbox Series.Hype seems to be all for PS5. I guess games matter lol
I'm interesed to see sales figures, but I'm just expecting very generic "greater than 1 million sold" statements that don't tell us anything except its at least matching last gen launch.
Man this has crept up on me. You really have to actually look for it to find excitment for Xbox Series.as i said before,.. i fully expect xbox to be sold out though december. i don't think we'll really know demand until the late january to feburary time period but i'm really expecting demand to go soft (relative to ps5). too few games. too small of an upgrade. too many alternatives to play their games (stay on last gen, move to PC).
I'm interesed to see sales figures, but I'm just expecting very generic "greater than 1 million sold" statements that don't tell us anything except its at least matching last gen launch.

..snip..yeah, true. but wii and switch sold tons while being much more substantially worse than this. there still may be a market for this low spec'd system.
It begins
DMC5SE is also worse on XSS beyond the resolution (no ray tracing)
i can't tell the difference between ray tracing on or offRay traced illumination and shadows are kinda hard to tell if the game already looks great, but ray traced reflections are really apparent when you're playing the game yourself. Might not be worth the cost, but they certainly look different.
Ray traced illumination and shadows are kinda hard to tell if the game already looks great, but ray traced reflections are really apparent when you're playing the game yourself. Might not be worth the cost, but they certainly look different.if i stop to admire reflections. if i'm just "web slinging" though a city would i really notice the difference in the sky scrapers that I am moving quickly past?
yeah, true. but wii and switch sold tons while being much more substantially worse than this. there still may be a market for this low spec'd system.Yeah but for now you'd be better off keeping the XB1/XB1X than buying an XSS since you get the same games with minimal upgrades
even with ps5 i'm going to play around with the fidelity modes and performance modes. ...but my early expectations are:
- i can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps
- i can't tell the difference between ray tracing on or off
i think i'll find ps5 games play and look fantastic in either mode and that i just can't tell the difference between them without a DF video to show me the metrics..
Yeah but for now you'd be better off keeping the XB1/XB1X than buying an XSS since you get the same games with minimal upgradesi'm not sure if i'd say the reduction in load times is "minimal upgrade". for a guy like me that's really, really awesome. like legend said, if you are planning to buy before the first price drop there is really no reason not to pick it up early since you're not just waiting for So-and-So game to release but can use is while whittling down your last gen backlog.
if i stop to admire reflections. if i'm just "web slinging" though a city would i really notice the difference in the sky scrapers that I am moving quickly past?
i'm not saying it isn't a thing but i do feel like i won't appreciate it much. honestly the best part of ray-tracing as far as i can tell is it might speed up development as it is more "simulation" like instead of tons of hand crafting. ...or i'm wrong.

...snip..like i said in that other thread,.. amazon burned me too many times with their failures to actually deliver on pre-orders. if i had to choose i'd blame amazon over MS. i really wouldn't doubt they do that "plane" thing where they sell more than have with some expectation around cancelations. or maybe they do it on purpose thinking that any failed pre-order on amazon will likely turn into an amazon sale eventually but a missed pre-order will turn into someone else's sale.
Mine has yet to ship... (I think I'll be fine)
If this is affecting a large amount of people, this is a large screw up. Obviously Microsoft/Amazon shouldn't have sold systems they couldn't deliver, and it would have been nicer if people learned this weeks ago instead of the day before launch. Hopefully the time estimate is extremely conservative and people still get them soon.
I wonder if he ever got a delivery estimate or if it just never updated and now its going to be later than release day. So maybe people with delivery estimates are good to go.@Wario64 - got an Amazon email indicating that I may not receive my Series X for a while... pic.twitter.com/zM8wah8SnZ

Kind of boring and overly long
Kind of boring and overly longwas it? I stopped watching after like a minute..
was it? I stopped watching after like a minute..I understand that they can't do any launch events because of covid.
So I think some in Europe should be getting their XSX soon. Although not many I can imagineDig at supply or dig at European console preferences?
Dig at supply or dig at European console preferences?Console preferences mostly.
Console preferences mostly.A joke from a resetera poster is that Taco Bell has been the most reliable supplier. All their xboxes arrived today lol.
Plus it seems like quite a few shipments look like they're aiming for Wednesday.
Seems like a lot of consoles are getting delayed last minute. Amazon UK isn't doing very well with fulfilling its orders today.I still blame amazon before MS. amazon is the worst with pre-orders.
Seems like a lot of consoles are getting delayed last minute. Amazon UK isn't doing very well with fulfilling its orders today. My order is out for delivery. I think I lucked out with it.
so tons of walmarts near me seemingly have series x's in stock. Even though i cancelled my preorder i'm tempted to snag on.DO IT DO IT DO IT
I'm just a sucker for new consoles/tech
DO IT DO IT DO ITso is microsoft doing like sony where its only online ordering and then pickup? Cause it doesn't give me the option to add to cart and checkout. But it says theres 5 left in the walmart like 5 miles from me
Or not, that's fine.
so is microsoft doing like sony where its only online ordering and then pickup? Cause it doesn't give me the option to add to cart and checkout. But it says theres 5 left in the walmart like 5 miles from meI read that larger stores are online only, smaller stores are in person. Would assume walmart was online only.
My walmart apparently has 3 in stock. :oNow we can finally analyse demand again!

this says walmart will start selling them online at noon today.
but if my small town walmart has 5 i'm not sure they will sell out. Not a town where very many people just up and blow $500
If it's online, people from outside your town will buy and drive in. I bet it sells out within the first 15 minutesthis is true. We shall see. I'll try and snag one from either there or another thats like 15 miles away

well now walmart online just says out of stock.i think you need to be prepared to prostitute yourself if you want one before xmas. i know that's the only reason i'm looking for one..
oh well. I'll still check at noon and see
I picked up another controller at best buy this morning. Think I saw 4 people pick up series x and a few more try to walk in and order. No one had series s.I'm assuming standing up?
Also, jeez Series X is tiny. I don't know if it's just because I'm used to larger systems as of late, but the display at best buy made it look cute.
I'm assuming standing up?Yeah standing up.
I think it's pretty clear MS went to an extent to try making it look smaller than it is. Like the split board.
I think it will look chunky next to another console on its side, but I'm sure standing up by itself, it won't look too big.

That might be the only game I play today lol. The really cool games I want to save till I'll actually enjoy them, and I'm really tired/work focused. Maybe I'll play Forza Horizon since it's just a simple fun game.
Probably my most anticlimactic new console ever lol. It sucks being an adult with "responsibilities."

Day 1 Xbox Series X reviewSeems okay so far then, like you said the download issues are due to the server overload on launch day.
Pros:
I love the box. It looks small even and is just cool.
Gamepass is well integrated so it's easy to search for things to play.
Individual controllers can be synced to specific accounts.
Trigger rumble is nice.
3D avatars are fun and nostalgic. It brought over my old avatars from 360 and I was horrified lol.
Mixed:
The home screen is confusing but is highly customizable.
Cons:
It's sluggish. Don't know if it's day one network issues or something else, but the menus sometimes hang and loading bars are not uncommon. Downloads are way worse than what I'm used to on PC and PS4. In game loading is not instant.
It's seemingly a single player system? Can log additional people in but all controllers control the homescreen at the same time and unless I'm missing something, it has PS3/360 levels of user management.
Doesn't feel like next gen. This is specific to me since I don't have a 4K tv and have yet to play a series x optimized game, but it feels like a PS4. There is no flagship game to play.
The shape of the box is not user friendly. It's ugly on its side and while my entertainment cabinets are large enough to fit it vertically, I fear the upper vent needs more than an inch of clearance.
Doesn't seem to download while in rest mode. Might be a glitch.
I'd sum it up as a great place to play great games, and a meh place to play meh games. Hopefully most of my issues are just from me being an idiot. Otherwise I really hope they patch some things.
I've only played Outer Wilds today. Downloading has been too slow to try out other games.
Smart delivery is dumber than I thought. Apparently you have to download the entire game on XSX. So it's literally just an automatic version of Sony's upgrade system.Smart delivery is nice most of the time but I don't understand why they went with that approach. Couldn't they at least have the disc include 50% of each version, to minimize downloads? It sucks since a large amount of people buying discs are doing it to avoid downloads!
Seems okay so far then, like you said the download issues are due to the server overload on launch day.Yeah in some ways Series X is a bit of a letdown but in other ways it has exceeded my expectations. It sure makes me want to get a 4k tv haha.
The rumble triggers were the best part about the xb1 controller, I was jealous of them the entire gen.

My disc drive is really scary sounding but I think it works.Yeah it seems like the disc drive is just really weird and loud sounding from previews. Perhaps there's something weird in the design which means its normally fine but can break easily.
Didn't recognize morrowind. Did recognize Halo 4.
During the current Xbox Series X Launch stream (https://t.co/B1pnelr6ID), Mighty No. 9's final level ran so bad that the framerate drops to 0, crashing the Variable Refresh Rate to 0, and breaking my capture card. Please enjoy this clip of that happening. https://t.co/yWYgnYgnca

Hopefully ps5 has no issues.I wouldn't know, but I'd assume it'd be as smooth as PS4's.
Hopefully ps5 has no issues.i trust playstation more than xbox for hardware reliability. MS has had too many issues thought the gens.

Are you able to levitate a ping pong ball above your series X?Sadly that was fake. Not at all enough air flow.
Really enjoying Forza Horizon 4. Still an older game, but at least makes the console feel like not PS4.Forza Horizon 4 is fantastic and I can imagine it's still one of the best looking games out there with the next gen enhancements.
Played the first one back on 360 so this is simultaneously a nostalgia trip and a next gen trip.
Thank you for supporting the largest launch in Xbox history. In 24 hrs more new consoles sold, in more countries, than ever before. We’re working with retail to resupply as quickly as possible. You continue to show us the connective power of play is more important than ever.

Isn't this the first Xbox launch that's been pretty much worldwide?yes. more MS spin. probably good numbers too but too much spin to really know.
yes. more MS spin. probably good numbers too but too much spin to really know.I think the lack of context is fine. It's a near meaningless statement for so many reasons so it just boils down to them being happy about launch.
I think the lack of context is fine. It's a near meaningless statement for so many reasons so it just boils down to them being happy about launch.we'll only get numbers if they think they are winning.
Hopefully we actually get numbers eventually. I'll be much more frustrated if they only talk about MAUs like xbox one.
we'll only get numbers if they think they are winning.Which sucks and is bs.
yes. more MS spin. probably good numbers too but too much spin to really know. The worldwide launch bit doesn't really matter. They were going to sell whatever they were going to make, short of sending 500k to Japan or something...
Oh wow are we really going to not get any numbers ever from Xbox? Could be that way, we'll see I guess...They'll probably wait for sony and therefore I doubt they'll announce any number except maybe US only
Could read into it and think the launch wasn't as big as PS4 since they specified Xbox history but idk if their numbers are that precise to be able to know.
What a way to start next gen!!!!!Wut
Finished Outer Wilds. Great great game. Up there as one of the best games ever made. Amazing puzzles and world. Had nothing to do with series x but has made me love this console.
WutWhat a way to start next gen!!!!!
Why have I seen no discussion about the storage space the series s gives you? I've only seen the 500gb quoted while everyone talks about the 667gb of ps5Probably because it was kind of expected to be awful and nobody cares about series S anyway.

Why have I seen no discussion about the storage space the series s gives you? I've only seen the 500gb quoted while everyone talks about the 667gb of ps5because series s has a lot more fatal problems and it's dead to us.

Subnautica has horrible draw distance. I get that it's a one game but it's a joke at times. Wish it had a series x update.Well duh, you can't see shame underwater! ;)

that's what i was thinking. it's a feature! a total commitment to realism. Then maybe they should have put some fog in like Silent Hill!
Subnautica has become a glitch fest.sounds like a perfect gamepass game then..
An internal fire spawned right by my home at the surface of the water. Does no damage but acts as a fun lighthouse.
Would give the game a low C atm. Has a lot of great but also is really slow.
sounds like a perfect gamepass game then..5/10
5/10I watched a few people play the game and never worked out why people love it, it seems so basic and boring to me.
Way too many glitches. Way too many "fetch quests." I was really enjoying the game at one point but as time went on it became less minecraft and more restrictive. My last few hours with the game were just swimming for ten minutes to spot A, pressing a few buttons, swimming for ten minutes to spot B, pressing a few buttons, swimming for ten minutes to spot A...
I tried out creative mode for a few minutes and it really shows how little there is to the game. It's a decent survival game but bad at almost everything else imo.
Not even good for gamepass, outside of me not wasting money on it. Need to read up on it because everyone else seems to love it :P

Outer Wilds-amazing

Reviews for the first ever Xbox Series console exclusive: The Medium for XBXS, PC Reviews - OpenCritic (https://opencritic.com/game/10820/the-medium)so not great then. the presentation was "bad" for a next gen exclusive. just reading the 1 sentence blurps looks like it doesn't play all that well either.
(its on 73 as of now)
so not great then. the presentation was "bad" for a next gen exclusive. just reading the 1 sentence blurps looks like it doesn't play all that well either.Yeah, its kinda crazy that it took until now for it to get an exclusive and its not even that great (I'm sure many will love it though). Xbox are very lucky the pandemic inflated demand, they'd already be struggling to shift these systems by now like with XB1 I think otherwise.

On its own, that's a fine score. Nothing great but nothing bad. I'll enjoy playing it.Its just another year I guess, playing some of the new COD and the new AC. Series X just feels like a lots of people got a PC upgrade at the same time, there's no unique or new software to celebrate it but the games that are coming out anyway play better than you experienced before. There's not even any kind of new service, new controller, or new UI, its all the same.
As the only big exclusive so far, that's like Lego City Undercover for the Wii U. If anything it makes the drought more obvious.
I have no idea what people are playing if they already owned an xbox. Call of the Sea and The Medium are the only new games.
I played The Medium. Was a solid 8/10 imo. Enjoyed it a lot and enjoyed that it was shorter. Makes me want to play their previous game.Seems like reviews really accurately matched the general audiences views with this one. That being opinions are all over the place.
Split gameplay worked pretty well. The gameplay itself was dead simple, but it brought me into the world in a way only games can do.
Story had its ups and downs but was very strong. Graphics in the other place were great.
Seems like reviews really accurately matched the general audiences views with this one. That being opinions are all over the place. If I wasn't a huge fan of Heavy Rain, I would have really struggled with the fixed camera and sluggish/bad controls. The rest of the game is the same way. Different people will be able to forgive/enjoy different things.
(https://i.redd.it/8dfpxen1wwf61.jpg)I think it's the PS5's width giving that illusion. Looks pretty thin from this angle.
Saw this, the Series X looks giant here.
When will Microsoft fix disconnecting controllers?Wow, that's way worse than I expected.
They happen daily and normally require a hard reset of the console.
Wow, that's way worse than I expected. It sucks cause all suspended games are lost :'(

This would be a huge boost for xbox this holiday. Halo + Starfield would be a massive 1, 2 combo. Will probably be sold out in the holidays if both make it.
Yeah, it would make for a really big holiday.Yep.
Wasn't expecting a XSX to be worth it until next year, but Starfield would go a long way.

Seems like Starfield is definitely not this year, unlike earlier rumours.i always thought those early rumors were more of wishful thinking than anything. it always seems the rumor come around about how huge and massive MS's whatever is going to be and reality never lines up with the hype.
:'(i'd say it's 50/50 on if you'll even get that level of detail. if the game really didn't even go to production until 2019 right as covid struck then there is a good chance all you'll get is a CGI trailer.
I'll at least be happy to see it. Really curious to see if it's just Fallout in space like The Outer Worlds or if it's more dynamic with spaceships and the like.
If the game really didn't even go to production until 2019 right as covid struck then there is a good chance all you'll get is a CGI trailer.I retract my statement:
Todd Howard says production started after Fallout 4. (late 2015/early 2016).Schreier says full production only started after Fallout 76 release in late 2019
And the game was in preproduction well before that, with a trademark in 2013.
Schreier says full production only started after Fallout 76 release in late 2019Huh fair enough. I missed the follow-up tweet.
Huh fair enough. I missed the follow-up tweet.who knows if Schreier is right or not. but if he is right this game is probably fall of 2022 at earliest and more likely 2023 due to covid impact.

It's hard to get any series x nowadaysah so he wanted the actual halo console? Was thinking just the game
While Microsoft said two years ago it had "no plans to add additional original Xbox or Xbox 360 titles to the catalog," the surprise addition of more than 70 games will be the final time we'll see new backward compatible games. "While we continue to stay focused on preserving and enhancing the art form of games, we have reached the limit of our ability to bring new games to the catalog from the past due to licensing, legal and technical constraints," explains Peggy Lo

Any big games still missing?Sorry I wasn't qualified to give an answer. ::P
Sorry I wasn't qualified to give an answer. ::PNo problem.
Are you enjoying your Series X?
No problem.Better than PS5? :'(
Yeah I love it. It has recaptured a lot of the magic of gaming, bringing me back to my 360 days.
Better than PS5? :'(Yes, but 95% of the games I've played on it are on ps5 too.
Thinking this is the year to get my first Xbox.
yes, it's 100% Microsoft's Xbox game streaming device, codenamed Keystone https://t.co/K4P2XVOxZA

I totally forgot that was supposed to be a thing. What's up with the logo?yes, it's 100% Microsoft's Xbox game streaming device, codenamed Keystone https://t.co/K4P2XVOxZA
— Tom Warren (@tomwarren) October 10, 2022
I don't see an audience for it just like how stadia died and that other streaming thing before it and even how no one wants the streaming versions of games on switch. If the streaming system is $150 then yeah who the heck would buy it, but I'd expect $50. Sold at cost to get people hooked on gamepass. People buying this system need to buy gamepass ultimate to stream.
consoles really aren't that expensive compared. controllers are practically more expensive.
literally no one is the perfect balance of poor/rich where $300 for a series S is too expensive but $150 for a streaming micro console is affordable.
If the streaming system is $150 then yeah who the heck would buy it, but I'd expect $50. Sold at cost to get people hooked on gamepass. People buying this system need to buy gamepass ultimate to stream.it's not going to cost $50 when just the controller costs $60.
Phil Spencer on Xbox Keystone ????

"Keystone was something that we were incubating internally. Late spring we pivoted to working with Samsung. I still have the prototype... will we do a streaming device at some point? I expect we will, but it's years away"https://t.co/K4P2XVOxZA pic.twitter.com/X0K3GlowMX

Today, Spencer said, Microsoft gives people choice in how much they'd like to spend if they want consoles. The company offers the $499 Xbox Series X and the less powerful $299 Xbox Series S. Microsoft subsidizes the cost to the tune of $100 to $200 per console, with the expectation that it will make the money back on sales of accessories and storefront purchases, he said. It's up to gamers if they'd like to pay $10 or $15 per month for Game Pass subscriptions. They can also buy games outright, or play certain games for free.
Spencer said he doesn't think Microsoft will be able to keep the prices of games constant forever. But they can provide impressive amounts of entertainment in comparison with other pursuits. "People can play video games for hundreds of hours," he said.
Microsoft's Phil Spencer: Gaming 'somewhat resilient' to weak economy (https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/10/26/microsofts-phil-spencer-gaming-somewhat-resilient-to-weak-economy.html)I thought this gen was sold near cost. Am I wrong or is this the first instance of them saying otherwise?
I thought this gen was sold near cost. Am I wrong or is this the first instance of them saying otherwise?the only official statement ever said was from the epic trial where MS said they have never sold a console at a profit.
I thought this gen was sold near cost. Am I wrong or is this the first instance of them saying otherwise?I assumed they're losing money but figured it was close to break even.
the only official statement ever said was from the epic trial where MS said they have never sold a console at a profit.
the web claimed it was "at cost" but that statement didn't come from MS. ..it came following some analyst claiming the bill of materials was around $520. bill of materials misses a ton of costs though. R&D. shipping. retail cut. licensing for Blu ray. ect.
in the end we have no way of knowing. just guessing.
I assumed they're losing money but figured it was close to break even.Yeah I guess it has just been speculation on the Microsoft side.
Yeah I guess it has just been speculation on the Microsoft side.do we really know that PS5 is being sold at a profit?
Wonder why it costs Microsoft so much. PS5 has very similar performance yet has been sold for a profit since last year.
do we really know that PS5 is being sold at a profit?Sony Confirms PS5 Disc Edition Breaks Even as Predicted (https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2021/08/04/ps5-disc-edition-breaks-even/)
raising the prices outside of America doesn't sound like a console that is being sold at a profit.
Microsoft wanted to aim for around $129 or $99 for this Xbox streaming device, says Spencer, and hints that bundling a controller with the streaming console, as well as Microsoft's silicon component choices, had pushed the price up closer to the $299 Xbox Series S.
Microsoft's Xbox streaming console 'Keystone' was pushed back because of its price (https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/15/23460485/microsoft-xbox-streaming-console-keystone-delay-price)How they heck did they fubar it that much? Including a controller would definitely bump up the price, but Valve's steam link was $50 and Chromecast Ultra was $70.
How they heck did they fubar it that much? Including a controller would definitely bump up the price, but Valve's steam link was $50 and Chromecast Ultra was $70.It's hard to tell for sure, but from the picture that was shown before, it seems like it must have been a much larger device than either of those.
It's hard to tell for sure, but from the picture that was shown before, it seems like it must have been a much larger device than either of those.Perhaps they wanted it to be able to play some backwards compatible games?
I wonder if they were intending for it to have more beefy specs for some reason.
probably just wanted to run the same (or nearly the same) OS as on xbox. chromecast and TV OSs are absolute shame for a reason,.. horribly spec'd hardware to run on.Just run the OS through the cloud 8)
Just run the OS through the cloud 8)lol. thanks for the advise Elon...
lol. thanks for the advise Elon...Best part is no part
only read the blurbs but there seems to be positive feedback about the controller input. that's great. i'll need to look up how those works because seeing is believing in this sort of thing for me.*playing is believing*
*playing is believing*well since i already have this in my clipboard...
I'm still having a hard time believing that it's good to play
yeah the larger capacity M.2's that will work for PS5 are really coming down in price. M.2's in general are as well. Which is great. Love having a couple installed in my PCThe expansion is awesome. Its so easy, but its super over priced. If they would just price it properly and allow 3rd parties to make some so the prices remain competitive
The xbox expansion card is the dumbest thing they did for the console
The expansion is awesome. Its so easy, but its super over priced. If they would just price it properly and allow 3rd parties to make some so the prices remain competitiveyeah the idea of it and how it works is great. But yeah its basically like vita's proprietary memory cards that were too expensive.
Think of all the new games you’ll be able to download and play now ????

PS5 had some SSDs for half the price.yeah the SSD's you can use in the ps5 are constantly on sale now and dropping in price fast. I think i got my 2tb M.2 for $150
Still cheaper there, but a lot closer.
what game is that?Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3dang, not even one of the most demanding games on the system. must be a bug in the game.
Xbox Series X $499 is now available at Amazon without invitehttps://t.co/O9tIYo1PB7 pic.twitter.com/6A9wvfsUjU

Is this the first time? You could buy them unbundled, first time for standalone since they started. Which I think was actually after launch sometime.
Microsoft told us this back when we saw the Series X for the first time that the Series X is their mid gen refresh. They just decided to do it, ahead of time, I guess you could say. The Series S is what they consider the standard machine and then Series X is, you know, that's getting ahead of the cart there and this is what you might get from a mid gen console.
The only thing 343 should do now is patch the title to finitetrololol..
https://www.ign.com/articles/halo-infinite-scraps-seasonal-cutscenes-following-343-reshuffle10 year plan going well.
trololol..
Microsoft is hiking the price of Xbox Series X and Xbox Game Pass - The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/21/23768400/microsoft-xbox-series-x-xbox-game-pass-price-increase)A dollar more a month is not bad, unless these price increases become annual.
Series X price increase in various regions, matching PlayStation.
Game pass price increase in various regions as well.
