It looks like a lot of folks treated themselves to a Nintendo Switch for the holidays last month. The video game industry in December was up 10 percent year-over-year, generating $3.29 billion thanks mainly due to hardware sales, according to industry-tracking firm The NPD Group (https://venturebeat.com/tag/the-npd-group/).Software
Software spending was up 1 percent from December 2016, reaching $1.3 billion. After Activision's Call of Duty: WWII's immense month in November, it's unsurprisingly still at the No. 1 spot on the charts.Hardware & Accessories
"Call of Duty: WWII was the best-selling game in December, as well as for the year," said Piscatella. "December 2017 is the eighth consecutive December that a Call of Duty franchise release has topped the sales chart."
Activision Blizzard was the highest earning publisher in 2017, though more folks spent their dollars on Nintendo games in December.
Hardware generated $1.3 billion in December, up 27 percent year-over-year and driven mainly by the Switch. As previously mentioned, it became the best-selling console in its first 10 months.Software Rankings

"Over the first 50 months in market for each console, the combined hardware installed base of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now exceeds that of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by 18 percent, and that of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox by 4 percent," said Piscatella.

Despite the growth in software and hardware, the accessories category remained largely unchanged year-over-year. It earned $735 million in December, with consumers shifting their focus from "toys-to-life" (such as Nintendo Amiibo) to cases and organizers.
The only info until now.So how has he spun this because I think he has to be talking about revenue and excluding the Switch to make this statement likely.Thank you to everyone who helped support @Xbox One this holiday, @npdgroup just reported our highest Xbox One December console share ever, looking forward to a big 2018! ????

Was trying to just thank folks for supporting us and the incredible success following the launch of Xbox One X. But yes Xbox outsold PS4 in December for Gen 8 consoles according to NPD data, while Nintendo also had a great month as Switch had most overall units.

He finally clarified. He is excluding switch as gen 8 from that it seems. Not sure if he is talking about revenue or not.Was trying to just thank folks for supporting us and the incredible success following the launch of Xbox One X. SW > XB1 > PS4
Xbox got it much more right, with better and more sustained December deals. But MS have put themselves in this position where they have to run these deals. Sony is way more smarter because they won't see a massive dive in sales going into the year which MS will probably get with the Xbox.

Wasn't Nov 5 weeks? Still large though. No, November was 4 and December was 5 as always
No, November was 4 and December was 5 as alwaysAre you sure?
Are you sure?NPD November 2017 retail period (October 29-November 25, 2017)
I thought it was based off Thursdays. Not Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 sold 280k units at retail in December. With digital it should have a 300k+ debut month in the USGood?
Good? For a niche series that has never sold a million worldwide its pretty good. XCX did 200k without digital so a 80k increase is good.
