Quote from: Legend on Oct 29, 2023, 03:01 PMPhysical movies need to be cheaper and/or streaming needs to be more expensive. Crazy that you can save money by buying a month of a streaming service to watch a movie vs buying the disc.

Movies vs streaming feel really out of whack price wise.

TV shows vs streaming feels like you could break even. You can get some great TV series for $50 or less, that might take a few months to watch. I paid $50 for Game of Thrones on Blu-ray, and $60 for Breaking Bad on Blu-ray.

On the TV series side, you can actually save money by buying physical copies vs streaming.

Yet on the movie side that's basically impossible.

It can work out if you have kids who literally rewatch the same movie 20-40+ times.

If you're a sentimental person like me who wants to rewatch a lot of the same movies from time to time, like myself, it probably works out.

But if you're someone who wants a new movie experience every day, streaming is an insane value.

Everything Everywhere All At Once will be my #20 UHD Blu-ray.

Others include LOTR trilogy, Dark Knight trilogy, Matrix trilogy, Pulp Fiction

I've been buying here and there when they reach $5-$8

My first one (Avengers: Endgame), I actually got before I had a 4k TV. It was like $8 for black friday, and I think it was cheaper than getting just the blu-ray.

Coming on Friday now.

Watched the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.

I thought it was amazing how the movie layered absurdity and yet still made sense.

Although there's apparently quite a few people that didn't understand the movie...

I didn't really like it, but how would someone not understand multiverse stuff? It's everywhere nowadays!

I think I've already mentioned most of these things before.

1.) I really like that 4k discs usually come with tons of languages. Lion King on blu-ray comes with just English, Spanish and French. The 4K version also comes with German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean (dubs and subs). Even a lot of Japanese anime only comes with Japanese and English audio options and just English subs as an option .

2.) Animated Cinderella in 4k now has the highest bitrate of any movie I have. 104.4 Mbps. Which is fascinating. #2 is Super Mario Bros at 91 Mbps. LOTR trilogy extended is next at 85-90 each. Although it's odd that the theatrical versions are only 60-65.

3.) It feels kind of wild to me that my parents/people in general would spend $50+ a month on satellite/cable as a service. Like I get it, but I feel like it sucks to invest that kind of money into a service and not really get anything out of it after the service laps.  There's way more available today, you can even get newly broadcasted episodes of stuff off iTunes. I've talked about it before, but some level of ownership has super nice qualities.

But why?

Some jokes were pretty funny but others were really lame imo. Felt like a live action Rick and Morty at times and I was already pretty tired of that show. Also the main story was too obvious imo, I was hoping it'd be smarter than that.

Still an ok movie.

This is movie related, but not directly so.

Basically there is a Balrog in Lord of the Rings, and someone posted on the internet a picture of it saying "this is my favorite scene", (scene with the Balrog), but they spelled it Sean.

So now there is a whole reddit sub dedicated to Sean the Balrog.

Talk about limited meme potential lol.

Oppenheimer sold out on 4K.

I don't feel like that happens too often.

I love Laika.

Haven't seen Boxtrolls or Missing Link, those never looked as good to me. But Coraline, ParaNorman are great and Kubo is one of my favorites.

Missing link was a movie. Don't remember a thing about it. Boxtrolls I at least remember some things.

Corpse Bride is my favorite from them. Didn't know the same people were involved in all these movies though.

Funnily enough, I don't associate Corpse Bride with them. That was just contract work.
