Sony IR

Interesting notes:
PS5:
- Sony produced 6.5 million PS5's, which is more than expected.
- Sony only shipped 3.3 million PS5s
- aiming to exceed 18 million units this fiscal year (currently at 5.7)

SIE:
- Record breaking Q2 for revenue, but low profits (citing higher development costs, exchange rates)

PS+:
- PS Plus down 1.9 million subscribers, but subscribers are spending more money due to new tiers

PC:
- Spiderman biggest PC game for Sony.

Strange that ps+ went down. Do people understand why?
tl;dr: people are playing less, in particular PS4 users are playing less, likely due to going out more

From the slides:
Quote
Although total gameplay time spent by PlayStation users during Q2
increased slightly versus the previous quarter, it decreased 10%
year-on-year primarily due to the impact of an increase in
opportunities to go outside resulting from a reduction in COVID-19
infections.
When we compare software sales for this quarter with the same
period of the previous fiscal year, we see sales of past library titles
declined sharply, while sales of major new titles remained strong.
Users appear to be playing a smaller number of titles out of a desire
to spend less money.
The number of PlayStation Plus subscriber accounts at the end of
September decreased 4% from the end of June to 45.4 million
accounts. We see that this decrease results from a greater decline
in user engagement among PlayStation 4 (PS4) users than expected.
