Only 30 minutes in but I'm really loving it. Just feels like Uncharted Indy atm but I love Uncharted and Indy.

My mind was blown though. I went off to the side and like Uncharted I found a treasure. Yet later on when I opened my backpack to get a campaign tool, the treasure was in there taking up an inventory slot. The treasures are real items that you can put back in your hand. Super minor yet I can already tell this game is not phoned in.

Played more and now I see the hitman+dishonored stuff. The combat is pretty simple but yeah, Indy is micro open world. Way less uncharted feeling now, but not a downgrade. I've been ignoring the main quest and just exploring.

Puzzles are fun. They are actual real puzzles that are fun on their own, not just as a change of pace.

I'm ready for the story to get stupid, but so far it's great.

Nice hopefully will play a bit when I take a break from work here in a bit

Done with the first chunk. Writing and acting are not as good as Naughty Dog, but the gameplay is a lot more fun than Uncharted.

Spoiler for Hidden:
On to Egypt.<br>

Indy drops weapons when climbing, but you can throw weapons. So I've gotten pretty good at throwing them up ladders.

Just got one weapon I'm going to keep for as long as possible! Infinite "ammo."

Edt: also I had a very Uncharted like level. Yeah the writing isn't good and every side kick is pretty lame unlike Uncharted, but it's a great Indy game. When was the last time MS released a great game that wasn't Forza?

Ori? Non indie, gears 3 or Halo Reach?

Edt2: gears 3 in 2011. Last time MS released a big action game like this that was highly liked. Some have similar metacritic scores but those are jokes like Halo Infinite's campaign.

Credits are rolling.

Solid 8.5/10. Gameplay was great in many ways, but not every way. Story was the worst part but still had good elements. Maybe Troy Baker is just a better stage actor or maybe his rig was higher quality, but I got much less emotion from everyone else.

It's hard to rank it compared to Uncharted since it's a bit better in some ways and a lot worse in others. The open worlds needed better travel methods but I love how they pulled them off. I hope future Uncharteds are open world like this. Much better open world than god of war style open worlds, but each map played in a unique way.

Looking forward to them hopefully making an improved sequel. Just refine the gameplay, make the writing not lazy, and get to Uncharted 1 level side kicks for a 10/10.

*Antonio was fine. I guess his act was my favorite in general. That was a 10/10.

**I loved sequence breaking. Only once did the game not support that. On the second map I just happened to find the big final room in my first 30 minutes. Many hours later, Indy didn't have a comment about already going there :(

***No, 9/10. I am remembering all the stuff I loved from the rest of the game.

at this point even uncharted 4 is an 8 year old game.

if indy isn't better than uncharted in almost every way or at least uniquely innovative than indy is the worse game.   part of what makes uncharted special is not that it is the eptiomy of what gaming will ever be but how much better it was comparted to anything else when it released.  i think everyone agrees that uncharted 2 is the really special one and that is a 2009 title that still holds up to current releases.

so how were the puzzles?

i was very turned off by the first person vantage but i'm piqued by the idea of it being kind of a puzzle game.   in the end were the puzzles really good?

Indy is very uniqely innovative. It feels like Uncharted because Uncharted is like Indy, not because Indy is an Uncharted clone.

The gameplay is just so different. Indy has amazing combat where every weapon can only be used for a few swings before it breaks, so it's always a chaotic fast paced engagement. Guns have very limited ammo and you can't pick up more, you have to pick up a whole new gun.

Writing is what holds Indy back compared to Uncharted and that doesn't depend on a game's age.

By far the best puzzles in a AAA game ever. Not as good as the best dedicated indie puzzle games, but some are still pretty good.

Lots are opening safes, but unlike other games it's mostly not simple notes like "I changed the safe combo, it's the year I was born." Other puzzles are more physical and I still have no idea if I solved two the correct way. My solution felt way too clever/hard.

I 100% the game. It's great because you can find maps for every single thing you collect.

taken together you're not really selling it to me.   with how oversized my backlog already is I'll likely pass on it even after the PS5 port.   ..unless it comes to ps+.

That's fine. If you only care about puzzles I wouldn't recommend it.

If you like Indiana Jones or like Arkane games, I would highly recommend it. In many many ways it's the game I wish Uncharted 4 was.

to the best of my knowledge I have never played a game by arkane.

I do think if uncharted ever comes back it needs a reboot.   I don't think I need a 6th game in that formula.   some of what you talk about sounds appealing but the combat videos I've seen really turn me off.  I like legit hate the first person vantage.  I don't really like it ever but I can stand it in shooters.

The combat wouldn't work as well in 3rd person. You need to constantly pick up new weapons and the first person cam is close enough that you can easily tell what you're grabbing.

It's funny how climbing and cutscenes are in 3rd person. It's really just combat and traveling that are in first person and at least for me that worked great.

Uncharted could reboot and have similar maps/structure to indy. It kept me on my toes a lot more than the hub and spoke design of modern GOW or the wide areas in TLOU2.
